On the way to my usual hotspot to play MPH, I was constantly presssing "Search for an Access Point". I walked past my neighbors house on the way there, and a NETGEAR Access Point popped up. It wouldnt let me connect for some reason, although I believe reading that NETGEAR has some problem with nintendo wifi. Anyways, I have a PCI Wireless Card, and yet it doesnt even pick up that signal? Its not even 30 ft away, and the cantenna I have for trade/sell on my list didnt help at all. What should I do? Buy a new wireless card? Move my pc? Get a bigger antenna?

Well, if the owners of the wireless network that you're attempting to steal bandwidth from are half-competent, they likely have their access encrypted anyway, so unless you know their password (or know how to hack it) you can't use it.

Actually out of the 30 Access Points Ive found, 2 are encrypted. And who doesnt know how to brute force it ;)

Well the first thing that popped up on Google when searching Netgear is wireless routers. Also Nintendo has a family freindly policy. Maybe you should try a lab top or any other wireless computer unincluding PPC.

About access codes they have Network programs that will search for a code and try to lock it in. There is probably a big list on the net somewhere. I also would look into how NETGEAR secures a wirelesss connection.

by my guess the owners can see your connections and disabled it from within the compound. Maybe when your over there again with a lesser familiy member you can unblock your NDS.

You could also use your Cell phone as a access point with the right programs or even if the option is built in.

You should have been able to assign a password and encryption when you ran the start-up disc to set up the wireless network.

I think I'll just look into getting a laptop first.

No luck with the laptop, so should I get a better wireless card? I was hoping I could get my hands on an antenna like this (http://www.unwiredadventures.com/unwire/2005/12/defcon_wifi_sho.html) one, but Im not looking for that long of a range, 3 blocks is more than enough. I doubt http://www.cantenna.com 's antenna would get much gain.

Open up any browser (IE, Firefox, etc.) and type in 192.168.1.1 and it should take you to your router's set-up page. From there, you should see a tab for security.

The rest is pretty easy to figure out.
