Our family was sent a few clips of my niece's birthday party on a disc. They were separate data files in the Windows Media Audio/Video format on the disc. The files open and play except I can't scroll through the tracks manually. No fast-forwarding and no rewinding. It's a bit of a pain in the ass sitting through unedited video clips when all you wanna see is a few parts here and there.

So is there some way I can fix the files so I can scan through them? Thanks.

I'm just guessing here at something you can try.

It seems like some WMV files, when the creators compress them down too much, you lose the ability to skip around and fast forward like you said.

You might try importing them into Windows Movie Maker, which comes bundled with XP. That might "expand" them and allow you to either watch them in Movie Maker itself, or you can export them out to another file in less compressed AVI format which might allow you to do what you want.

Just a thought.
