I have a buyer that used Buy It Now to purchase something from me last night and I sent an invoice to him this morning. My only form of payment accepted is Paypal. How long should I reasonably give the buyer to pay? Is 24 hours standard? The buyer has 600+ positive feedback. I'm not too worried about this guy yet but would like to know for future referance.

I've been Fleabaying since 1998, and I used to give 5 days for payment. Since about 2 years ago, cutting it to 72 hours and only taking Paypal has dramatically reduced the number of bad transactions that I've had. For some reason, I'd say that 72 hours is a good midpoint.. but the longer it takes for a buyer to pay, the less likely it is for a buyer to pay. I usually send a congratulatory email within 12-24 hours of end of bidding, and a payment reminder between 48-72 hours. Sometimes, people bid and don't bother checking unless they are sniping (the whole unexpected win thing).

As a buyer, nearly all of my purchases are paid for within a few hours (unless they end overnight and I set a snipe, in which case I pay the next morning).
As a seller, my experience has been that about 75% of PayPal buyers pay within 24 hours. The rest usually pay within 3-4 days.

I don't want to be a jerk so I give them 11 days to pay. Then again I base this off the longest I went delaying payment.
I would annoy the buyer only if they are not making an effort to keep me informed of the entire process.
For example if the buyer took four days to make payment and does not Message me about anything then I would be worried.
However if they said I have to make add funds to my account right away
or just sent out payment out today ( not going over the limits of days ) I would say thats fair.
Then again 7-11 days go by and there is no payment or any messags about payment then I would be worried and have to make a threath like "If you do not respond to this message about payment. I will be forced to complain to ebay and leave negative feedback" and then when they do respond they will say I have made payment thank you for being patient ( something like that ) or Blah blah exxcuse for not paying and wanting to get out the deal.
11 days is more then enough with responces. If there is no communications from the buyer or seller then there might be something wrong on ether end.
