The following was taken from a 2005 Nintendo brainstorm session
Miyamoto: "So, I called you all here to discuss our newest console. I feel that, after looking over the sales figures for our last 2 consoles, we need to do something drastic. Any suggestions?
Slug in Suit 1: "How about a console that dispenses candy in the shape of top selling Pokemon characters?
Slug 2: "How about a pink console, that uses vinyl LP's as game discs, and it folds into it's own carrying case?"
Reggie Fils-Aime: "No, guys, how about this. We get a bunch of quality third party support, from companies who are dedicated to making great exclusives. We put together a solid online infrastructure, put our games on a popular, easy to develop for medium, and market the console to serious gamers, the ones who will spend the most money on our consoles?
Cue generic laugh track
Miyamoto: "Oh, Reggie, that was TOO funny. But seriously guys, this is what I was thinking. How about we come up with a basic prototype, which we can show at the biggest gaming event of the year. We won't say anything else about the system, or show any game demos, we'll just trust that everyone will think we know what we are doing. Then, we'll sell this system, this video game system, to people who don't even like games, and would NEVER play them to begin with! What do you think about that!
