UPDATE: This deal is (hopefully temporarilly) dead.

At Amazon.com, when you order an XBOX 360 you get a pre-order for either Gears of War or Viva Pinanata. The system ships immediately and the game will ship when it comes out. A pretty darn good deal, from a very reputable vendor. I might bite on it myself.

Choose Premium or Core System (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ffeatur e.html%2Fref%3Damb%5Flink%5F3732782%5F1%3Fie%3DUTF 8%26docId%3D1000010981&tag=cheapassgam08-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325)

OR
Viva Piņata (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HCL5QO/)

Quick question- anyone have a 360 hooked up through RF cables or an RF adapter? I only have a TV with coax but it serves well for DVD's and the original XBOX, and I am in college so if the TV would work with a 360 that would be sweet. Thanks in advance.

what type of warrenty / return policy does amazon have for the 360? I was planning on buying one at sams club since you get a free 1 year warrenty and an extra year for 15 bucks. Does amazon just do the standard 90 day? Is there a warrenty that you can buy via microsoft?

Good Deal! I finally caved in and bought a 360. Quick question, when I checked out I got a message that said, " Estimated ship date for these 2 items: November 13, 2006" Is this a misprint, or am I going to get my 360 at that date? Thanks.

icecubedx5
10-03-2006, 10:53 AM
Don't know whether to bite. It comes out as $399.99 shipped. Subtract $65 (the cost of Gears of War and tax if you bought it in stores) = $334.99 and if you subtract $30 (if you bought 360 in stores, you'd pay about $30 in taxes), then you'd be buying a Xbox 360 for a total of $305 which > any price cut. The only thing I am holding off on is the chance MS may release a 60 gig HDD to compete with PS3's HDD.

Even with the smaller CPU's, I would get an extended warranty. Awesome powerful system, but too many things that can go wrong. Just get the 360 now, spend an extra $60 for the 2 year warranty and be done with it.

Wow good deal! You're saving more or less than $100 with a free game and no taxes rather than picking up a 360 in-store. Seems cheaper than that deal Overstock had a couple weeks ago. If you guys missed out on that, don't miss this one too!

icecubedx5
10-03-2006, 12:13 PM
Yeah and the beauty of it is that they are giving you a game that you'll buy anyway, so it truly is saving $100 bucks.

For kicks I tried adding the GoW: Collector's Edition to the cart to "fool" Amazon. Unfortunately it comes out to $470 so that's a no go.

Posted this in another topic but I want everyone's thoughts here.

Basically your buying a 360 for $305 as opposed to $400 in stores. But for consoles is it best to buy in stores even if you pay MSRP? If something goes wrong with the console, its easy to just return/exchange for a new one. Plus if you buy it at Best Buy, you can get a 2 year extended warranty for $50.

The great thing about that is that they will give you a full refund if you return it to due to "faulty hardware." My friend got a 360 at launch with the warranty. In one year when his warranty is about to run out, he tells me he's going to return it, apply the $400 to a PS3, and re-buy the 360 for $250 (or whatever it drops in price to 2 years after launch).

That itself seems worth it (even though you are ripping off the store). So my question is, is it best to buy new expensive consoles in stores rather than online, even if it means you miss out on saving $100?

$30 for the wireless controller shipped at buy.com with google checkout.

13 month live subscriptions are often easily found for $35

So your saving another $45 from what you said. Better do it :)

When you get the 360, you can probably stretch out a month on demos alone until GoW comes out (lots of good demos like Smackdown vs. Raw, Dead Rising, FEAR, Fight Night, Saint's Row).

You can get an extra wireless controller for $30 shipped using the Google Checkout method (thread is on first page).

360 Premium comes with 30 day free Gold trial (I assume in one month when Gears of War comes out, it should come with a 30 day free Gold trial as well considering GRAW came with one).

I hope that Amazon realizes that they are better off without TRU. I don't have the money so I'll just be waiting till the new chip 360s/price drops.

But for anyone else intrested in Gears and a 360, you really can't go wrong. What's in the LE Gears anyway? If the shit don't come with a soundtrack I don't think it's worth it (cause stuff like interviews and behind the scenes looks at the development team can be squeezed on the regular disc).

Even if gears of war ends up boring you, the trade in value on it will be awesome for a good while.

I GOT IT!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!:bouncy:

OKay here is what I had to do....to get my 360 with GOW for free.

I emailed amazon to let them know I could not do the promo. They responded by saying we have no clue what promo you're referring to.

Then it asked if i didnt like the service to have them call me. So I did and I got an awesome girl on the phone.

I alerted her to what was going on that it wouldnt let us do the "legit" promo. She immediately said, "where is the promo code?" I said I dunno. She said then we'll do this manually. So this is what happened, while she was on the phone with me.

1. I signed up for Amazon Prime Trial. 2 months and its free, then i will cancel.

2. I added the 360 Premium to my cart, plugcharge, and GOW.

3. I completed my order with free 2 day shipping bc of prime.

4. She went in manually and zeroed out the price of the game. And said there you go.

5. Check the amount under recent orders and all items were there with ship date of today on 360 and charge kit and GOW date of 11/7/06.

Total: 414.81 = 360, playchargekit, Gears of War

She said that she will let them know immediately that the deal is not working. She said they will probably simply add a promo code to fix the problem.

Good luck to everyone else I hope you get in on this deal.

They shipped my console too. They charged me 304 for a premium pack but canceled the games being free. Now I've got two full priced pre-orders. I didnt notice this until I sent them an angry letter. I basically asked for the original deal of one console and a free game. I even threw in a mention of the Better Business Bureau. Now that I see they sent me a cheap Premium pack, I'm satisfied. lol

I dunno how they will reply to my letter. I was basically mad at about having to send it back and wasnt satisfied that they would fully refund me given the hassle I would be put through.

icecubedx5
10-04-2006, 02:28 PM
You possibly screwed yourself. They gave you 2 full priced pre-orders because they took the discount off the price of your 360. Since Amazon doesn't charge for games until they ship, they knocked the $100 off your 360 since it shipped first, and will charge you $100 when your two games ship. Either way, its still $400 for a console and 2 games. Anyways, don't go for the original deal, as a $400 360 with 1 free game comes out to $340 for the 360 while in your situation, you were charged with a $300 Xbox 360.

Well they can't go back and charge me more for a console they already shipped right?

I figure all they can do is either:

"Sir, all we can offer you is a full refund according to our policy and refund the shipping costs" (but I'm keeping the console so that option dont matter)
