View Full Version : *DEAD* - Xbox 360 w/ Free Gears of War AND Viva Piņata - AMAZON GLITCH!

icecubedx5

Deal died. Even adding one game won't activate the deal. I'm guessing it is "temporary" until they can fix the glitch as the "legit" deal is supposed to run the entire month of October.

*I needed to create a separate topic to maximize VIEWING! All credit goes to OP of the below thread as he found the original deal!

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2244689#post2244689

I hate to take away from the OP but I just found if you add a 360 Premium and BOTH Gears of War and Vivaņata, there is a glitch where they give you BOTH FREE GAMES.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_3732782_1?ie=UTF8&docId=1000010981&tag2=cheapassgam08-20

Add Premium and both games!

I found this out because after the TRU glitch and Overstock glitch, I figured TRY IT! And it worked!

I would bank on the order being canceled, as Amazon tends to do with promo errors like this.

But good luck to those dropping in orders!

Not bad; worth a shot. Worse thing they can do is just take out one of the free games.

too bad the games are preorders, amazon may have fucked up this time but they may email everyone and not honor this

icecubedx5
10-03-2006, 01:26 PM
But if they ship the 360 first, they could actually take back the pre-orders? Can't a person argue the reason they ordered was they were guaranteed the products for the price listed, and if they couldn't get everything for the price that was listed, they would return it? That should cause major headaches 2 months from now with all the open 360s.

Admiral Ackbar

I'm going to wait. Not only would this stretch my budget, but I think there may be more bundle opportunities in the future. Not necessarily with as good a game. But just more opportunbities. Ones that you might even be able to combine with a coupon.

It's a tricky issue, but since the offer does clearly spell out what you're supposed to get, I don't think you would get very far trying to argue the point. My guess is that they will figure this out before anyone's systems have shipped and email them about it, giving them the option to cancel the extra game or pay for it. But you never know.

I would try it as well but what I'm worried is that after I cancel the 2 free games, what if they start processing the order for the console right away and you can't cancel it (past orders on Amazon they have done this, not when I tried to cancel but looked at the order status right after I placed the order and it says we are preparing your order for processing and cannont make any changes). I don't want to be stuck having to return the system if it doesn't take the $110 off the system.

icecubedx5
10-03-2006, 03:37 PM
Gears of War will stay at full price about the same length as the original Halo took to drop to $20, which is like 2 years. Either that or when Halo 3 comes out, whichever comes first. And Gears of War is one of those few gems like FFXII, Zelda: TP, Halo, where paying full price for a game is completely justified. It's got the single-player, multi-player, and co-op online.

Well, if we're going with the XBox then I think Star Wars: Republic Commando held up there in price in most places until just a few months ago. I think it was pretty high in price (around $40 MSRP) for a good...12 to 16 months since its release in the US?

Here is what I did...
Place the order with both games, once the order is placed go into the order and cancel both games. It will take the games off your order still leave the promo amounts in place for the games. Your total should be around $290.

I imagine this still works base on how they apply the promo for the games. They charge you for the games, but give you that amount off your order.

Halo remained there because for the first two years, IMO, it was one of the few games worth owning on Xbox. I desperately wanted to like more games, but other than Panzer Dragoon and the guilty pleasure of DOA:XVB, I was never compelled to get anything else (sold my Xbox before Ninja Gaiden). When there's little else to buy, and people own the system, they'll pay more for something like Halo. I think that with the 360 sort of hitting its stride and putting out a decent array of games, something like Gears of War might not be as imperative for owners of the system...and thus its price would fall. Now, it may just be a brilliant game with full justification for a high price tag, but making judgments on that front might be a little preemptive at this point since few of us have probably played any of it and NONE of us have booted up the final product

Yay checked my Amazon status and my order is shipping soon. $399.99 for the Premium, Gears of War, and Viva Pinata with free 2 day shipping (Amazon Prime trial ROCKS!).

TahoeMax, I guess your right. I actually am considering trading in both Gears of War and Viva Pinata using the old Wal-Mart "got it as a gift, returning for store credit" trick. After all, $110 for both games goes along way considering I can get Tomb Raider Legends, PDZ, Kameo, and PGR3 for that same price. Decisions decisions.

Gears of War isn't an FPS, and for all intents and purposes this is Microsoft's Halo for the 360 right now.

Meaning that this game will be a AAA title because they can't let it fail since this is the one title they are going to pimp the shit out of this holiday season and beyond.

Someone saying it will be $20 in six months is a very naive person... I got a feeling this game will sell like crazy on release day and keep selling all the way through Christmas and beyond.

Viva Pinata, now there is one that might drop.

Gears of War is to Microsoft as Zelda is to Nintendo, for an easy analogy. Sure, there may be alot of awesome 360 games this summer but GoW is already getting a very impressive stream of advertising and will be a massive success just from people blind buying it alone.

This still works for the platinum system.

But as others have said, Amazon has historically not honored price or promo glitches in the past. Will they allow this to go through? Since the games are pre-orders, I wouldn't be surprised if they did not. It wouldn't be too hard for them to send out an email saying something to the effect of: "sorry, there was a glitch in the system and we can't send you 2 free games. We've canceled your order, but here's a credit towards a 360 game of your choice."

icecubedx5
10-03-2006, 04:46 PM
But here's the thing. This pre-order thing is different because they are pre-orders. My 360 just shipped. If I were to open it Thursday and play it and in one month Amazon tries to not give me my free games, can't I say "I paid $399.99 for all of these items listed. If I cannot have it all for the price I paid for, I want to return EVERYTHING for a full refund."

You think Amazon would eat the cost of thousands of opened 360's?

Well, the fact that they are pre-orders will make it easier for Amazon to cancel them. The promo is only for one of the two games, not both.

Don't get me wrong, I hope this deal does go through for all the CAGs giving it a try, but I'm not counting on that. Regardless, you are definitely guaranteed one of those games because that's what the promo is about.

Oh and BTW, let's keep this deal in CAG--if it spreads to some of the other sites and gets more attention it will likely increase the odds of the thing getting canceled.

Hmm...actually, for system launches I might say that the magic timeframe is more like 9-12 months, simply because there's little else out there in the way of alternatives, as i mentioned before. Hell, Fantavision was still around retail for like a year after PS2 released. I suppose that using $20 isn't really a good way to look at it in the case of the 360, since many of the games have higher base prices to begin with. Perhaps $30 is a more reasonable price point at which you can say 360 games have gone "bargain bin".

Anyway, if GOW is a true killer app, i might even grab a 360 myself. If it's anything less, I predict a price drop in 6-8 months to $30-40...maybe not $20, but a drop nonetheless

I have everything shipping seperately. They say that "Shipment two" which the premium system alone, is only going to cost me $308.71. Anyone else getting this? Presumably they'll charge me for the two games as they ship. The shipment two breakdown is:

S/H: $4.49

Same here. Even though we are only charged $399.99, the way they "break it down" is $308 for the 360 (the way it appears the promotion is for a discounted 360, not free games) and $49.99 and $59.99 for the games.

This makes it better in the long run. Since our 360 will be coming first, technically we paid what they charged $308, and if it ships, they can't cancel. Then when the 2 pre-ordered games come, we are billed $100 for both games, but in the end, we still only paid $400.

I'm scared that if I cancel the games, they will charge me $399.99 and if I argue about the $304 price, they will just say the promotion was for a free game and give me the choice of GoW or VP. Then I'd be stuck with 1 game instead of 2.

*Edit*

I'm not cancelling actually. $304.22 shipped means they only give a $95.77 discount. By keeping the two games ($59.99 and $49.99), they are worth $119.19 in stores with tax so I'm getting a bigger deal keeping the games. Worst comes to worse I will trade VP in at Wal-Mart for a brand new game.

A warning to everyone who is using this deal:

Amazon.com is notorious for having price and promotion glitches and then not honoring them or "fixing" them after the fact. For those who are ordering the system with the two games and then cancelling, don't be suprised if they end up charging the different to make it $399.99 later if they've already shipped the system when they reailze this happens. If they discover it before anything ships, your entire order just might get automatically cancelled.

Yep, it's dead for me too. Sigh...

OP, I think it's time to put "deal dead" in the title.

Dang, it really is dead. It won't even let you add just one game. I'm thinking that is only temporary as the "legit" deal should be fixed soon hopefully. My Xbox just shipped so I hope some people got shipped 360s today.

It should rvr2k3, only not with the 2 freebies. Funny thing is that my order shipped for $304.22 and my email confirmation states:

You have only been charged for the items sent in this shipment.
(Per our policy, you only pay for items when we ship them to you.)

Makes me wonder what happnes if I were to cancel the 2 games that haven't shipped yet as I was only charged $304.22.

I just want Gears of War, the main reason I am getting the 360 is Gears and Halo3.

My order shipped and I was only charged $300 for my 360. Amazon says they will charge the rest when the 2 pre-orders ships. So I'm still only paying like $400 for the 360 and 2 games.

I forgot to change my order to ship separately, so all my items are grouped to ship together. I won't be getting my 360 until the games are ready to ship. That probably means bad news for my order, it will probably be cancelled, but I will just wait and see.

Yeah, I was only charged 212 for the core. Now the question is wtf do we do with those games? Will they charge us for the games? what if we cancel them now???

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF MY GREATEST DEALS EVER! Man I got lucky. I don't think Ill be getting a Wii now since I just got a 360 for 50 bucks cheaper! And on top of this, I am not even a prime member and the estimate date of arrival is for thurs! Once I get it, I think Ill cancel those other games and bam, a core for 212 shipped. I know its a core, but o well.

This is my biggest fear about doing that. Suppose you cancel your games and Amazon realizes they only charged you $212. What happens if they charge you the full $300 stating that the discount applies only with the "free games." And since you cancelled the promotion games, you have to pay full price?

And the only other option is to take the free game while paying $300 for everything like the original deal? Then your out of the TWO free games and only get 1 free game.

I would be very careful in doing that. they may say to get that price you must get those games. they can come back and charge your CC or paypal later on, remember Amazon is NOT lenient towards customers like Overstock.com is on glitches.

Holy shit! 10 minutes ago I checked my order summary and basically my 360 shipped today for $304.02 and my email and Amazon confirmations stated that my pre-orders would be charged ($49.99 and $59.99) when they ship next month. The weird thing is that now that I go back to my Order Status, there is only a record of the 360 shipping for $304 and no record of Gears of War or Viva Pinata. Its almost as if the transaction never took place. Thank god I took a screenshot via PDF of my original transaction.

This could mean that Amazon, in order to "fix the glitch" has cancelled all of the Gears of War and Viva Pinata games. But the funny thing is, they cancelled the games on me but still let my 360 go through for $304. That means I don't have to take the risk of cancelling the games, Amazon did it for me!

If I am feeling especially devious, now that I bought the 360, I can email Amazon stating that I SHOULD have gotten a free Gears of War but didn't. Of course I'll do this next month. And I can CLEARLY show that I purchased it in October which is the month the promotion is running.

Sure my invoice shows that about $97 was taken off the bill due to "Promotional Discount." But I doubt a month from now a customer service rep from Amazon could do anything about it. I mean all it states is via Promotional Discount, it took off $95. I can argue that when I bought the 360, that was the price that they charged and it shipped, thus that was the price I paid. I could probably convince Amazon by acting "dumb" that I bought my 360 in October, but never got Gears of War.

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We're writing because an error allowed a promotional code to be

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and hope you will
give us a chance to serve you again in the future.

I just got that email. Understandably they cancelled my Gears of War and Pinata, but my 360 has already made it to NY via PA.

For anyone who got the $304 Xbox 360's, are you going to go the extra "cheap ass" distance by contacting Amazon in a month, playing dumb, and asking why they didn't get the free Gears of War even though the 360 was purchased in October just like the Promotion said it would?

Don't know if that is possible since that email was sent out letting you know about the error. Anyway, I got that email. Whats crazy is that I never signed up for amazon prime I should have my 360 by tomorrow! Maybe because Im close to the warehouse....man what a lucky deal to pull off and again, thanks CAG!

Hmmm, they cancelled the games out of my order, but they are still showing the 360 premium as "shipping soon" for $308.71. I got the same "unshipped items have been cancelled from your order e-mail tho. Hope it ships before they figure it out...
