My local stores have been taking them on a limited basis. The manager said he was hoping to get between 6 and 10 for launch.

Yep, I noticed that last week. I think I am waiting for Best Buy since I have about $50 in RZ coupons. I doubt GameRush would get it, and that is where my credit is at.

Hopefully the quality on this is decent....we'll see soon enough.

I'm not getting anything until the format wars are done. You'll be able to get a better, standalone unit in a few months.

Quick question. You can play 360 games from this drive right? So theoretically you could keep one game in the system and one game in the HD drive and not have to swap them. Right?

I dont think it can play games off the HD drive, since they dont plan on making hd dvd games anyways. But you can keep a DVD/HDDVD in the HD drive and a game in the 360 drive w/o swapping.

Nope...HD-DVD drive is for movies only. DVD and HD-DVD

Anybody know if this drive would work with a computer? since usb 2.0 I wonder if it could be used as one.

while i am very tempted to get it, i am holding off for either a reasonably priced stand alone or a xbox 360 w/hd dvd and hdmi support

i don't know if it would work with a compuer, but I doubt it. The 360 is what is going to run the hd dvd player, that is why it it cheaper. This accesory unit, will utilize the hardware of the 360 to do everything. The computer would need to have some driver/software to realize that it need to run the hd dvd player and video decoders. I believe that stuff will be coming to the 360 on the next system update.

I'd rather not have to listen to the humm of my 360 while watching Hi-Def. Also rather expensive when you need a 360 to use it anyways.

Out of the box? Not a shot in hell.

Xbox H@XZ0Rz are a pretty determined bunch, though. It's not out of the question that somewhere down the line someone would figure out how to make it happen.

For 200 bucks? Not likely.

This is very tempting, and the main reason it is for me is because of the price. Yes, it'll probably be outdone by standalone players within months (or maybe out of the box, who knows), but the thing is - ANY HD-DVD player you buy right now, standalone or not, will be heavily outdated a year or two from now because it's still a relatively new technology. Like I said elsewhere, if I'm going to "waste" my money on a 1.5 (or whatever) generation HD-DVD player, I'd rather waste 200 bucks than waste 500 bucks.

Will probably wait for a deal on it though. $200 ain't bad, but $175 appeals to me a surprising amount more.

I'm hoping the reason we haven't heard about any HDMI cable yet is because they are waiting for HDMI 1.3 to hit so they can release it with that specification.

Unless a stand-alone players drops significantly soon, I'll get this. As for HD-DVD movies costing too much, they will drop also. You can get 2 for $30ish with BUY.com $10 off $30 Google deal too.

I just like new gadgets, so this interests me.

i think i know what may be my first hd dvd purchase..

This November 28th Warner will release five different versions of "Superman Returns."

First there will be a single disc wide- and fullscreen edition only containing the movie.

Then there will be a Two-Disc Special Edition that will contain 10 Deleted Scenes and "Requiem for Krypton: Making Superman Returns" - a comprehensive 3-hour documentary that takes you behind the scenes onto the set of Superman Returns.

Lastly the film will also be released on both HD-DVD and Blu-ray. The HD-DVD version will be a DVD Combo also containing the standard DVD version on the same disc. It will also feature Dolby Digital Plus audio tracks. The Blu-ray version will contain the HD version of the film and have regular Dolby Digital audio tracks.

We have yet to confirm what extras will be included on the HD versions
