Just got off the phone with Amazon: Here's the skinny.

Sales rep said I should go ahead and punch through the sale even though the total cost shows as 459.xx. Since they only charge the card once an item ships, she said that once Gears of War is released it will ship with no charge on the CC due to this promotion.

I asked what if it doesn't? There's no record of this promotion on the sales transaction.

She said that we can easily see what promotions were offered and when and we can refund the charge for the game if the charge appears...which it most likely won't.

Therefore, making the leap of faith I'm going to go ahead and order it.

Worst case, I have to call back and wrangle in November to get my money back.

Total outlay should still be 399.99.

I wouldn't expect a price drop at all. If anything this is just to clear retail inventory for a different pre-packaged bundle--like say a premium 360 with bundled game.

It's just the holidays guys. Different retail outlets are ramping up competition. They start throwing more stuff in to make you buy it from them instead of the other guy. Closer we get to Christmas, the more deals like this there will be.

I could not wait and called in for this deal. The rep I spoke with gave me Gears of War for free, but in the end, told me that it was a marketing error. I was shocked.

But at least I got my 360 and Gears. Good luck to everyone else.

That is what I do not get it. If it is over why they don't remove the promotion in the main Xbox360 Amazon page. Not only it has a nice BIG image link, but also that top bar link. Furthermore take out the page as well.

I waited the whole day and finally I said screw it and called. I am glad I did. I have been waiting to using my Amazon GC for the 360. The only thing that was holding me up was waiting for the bundles to come out. This is good enough, since the 2nd game I was going to get for the 360 was Gears. Now I will have to play Oblivion while I wait.

That is what I think. The problem is that you will have to call them later to ask for refund and etc.

I was thinking to get the core system with GOW, since getting the extra controller (even being wired) and the game was a good deal, compare to pay $140.00 (yes I trusted M$ quality standards...my fault) to replace my dead 0102 premium for a garbage refurbished "God knows what it went through" console.

For now I think is better to just go on with the repair (get the rip-off warranty) and in the future just buy a later revision if/when it comes.

Just tried to re-order the 360 and GoW (original order was cancelled due to both games being discounted). It didn't apply the discount to GoW and talking to customer service didn't result in getting the proper discount applied, even after telling them that the promotional page was still up and running on their site.

Nice little bait and switch move from Amazon. They are now claiming that the entire promotion was an error. This is hard to believe, considering that they put it at the top of their video games page with custom graphics to promote it and everything. Not like it was a simple typo or something.

The CSR told me that they would have cancelled my new order anyway, which made no sense, since it was charging me the full amount for the Xbox and game. I told them that I seriously doubted that they would have cancelled it, considering I was getting hosed the second time around and it seems they have no problem letting customers get the short end of the stick.

Pretty disappointing, as the deal popped up right at the perfect time for me, but I'm sure something comparable or better will come down the road in the next month. Hopefully the next deal will be at a store that won't hide behind some bogus disclaimer when they get called on false advertising.

They shipped my console and charged me 304. They have both games listed as mine in an email saying the console shipped and that I'll be charged full price for both games. I guess I'm getting them free since the console is discounted.

Just a slight note...key people from Amazon also tend to browse the very same boards for deals. The "Gears of War AND Viva Pinata" thread alone raised eyebrows, not to mention icecubedx5's other thread and modus operandi for when November was going to roll around.

Honestly, I can't necessarily fault them in that case. At least they fixed up their bugs faster than, say, FYE.com. That and at least they've honored what has gone out the door, although many other retailers would have thrown a fit.
