I can assure you, every single game on MY list have been played and outside maybe two of them (Zoo Tycoon COUGH) were games I genuinely wanted and enjoy A LOT. My Nintendo DS is basically my main source of gaming which explains why my PS2 catalog is made up of about *8* titles and having games from all sorts of genres that I enjoy just broaden my gameplaying needs when I feel like playing a certain type of game at a certain time. Some I have because I know I'll want to play at some point and are my "Rainy Day" games (Phoenix Wright for example).

Why not? Granted it seems to me there is a lot of fluff there and I agree some of those games deserve to be burned rather than played but hey...Maybe he got some good deals on those games. Either way, its his money and he obviously loves playing video games, even some crappy ones too, but who is anyone to say otherwise.

I personally only buy stuff I play, hell I could own 160 DS games if I wanted but I got taste in what titles I buy plus I'd rather save money for other GOOD titles. :bouncy: You do however get people that are hoarders and although I don't understand the point of it...Well...see above.

I will agree and disagree. What if he doesnt need to work? Why do you work? To buy things and pay for that beer? Or is it more of a hobby. And if it was not for financial gains someone would say why do it, get a life and go play golf, paintball, etc. Its all perspective

I pretty much keep every game I get, and never trade anything in once I beat it. I'm not going for a complete collection, though, so there are a few games I have gotten for $2 or so that I have traded in (Asphalt Urban GT, Ping Pals, etc). Plus I have kids so some of the games are for them - I would never have gotten the Spongebob one otherwise :lol:.

And, no, I haven't played nearly all of them, but when you hang out at CAG long enough you end up obtaining games you might not otherwise get (either because they were super cheap like $2 for Ridge Racer, or on recommendation like Phoenix Wright, neither of which I have played yet).

I dont see what the problem is with collecting games. I both collect and play; will I ever beat all my games? No. Although I'm not a hardcore obsessive collector it is a hobby of mine and I enjoy it. If some people like it, whats the harm in that?

Haha - I was waiting for that response, which is why I threw that in there. Though actually, it is true, I wouldn't have bought Phoenix Wright if it wasn't for the praise it gets here. I will play it eventually.

Of my 50+, I don't own many bottom feeders. But if I ever saw Ping Pals (or Elf Bowling or whatever that other one was) for $2 new and there wasn't a trade-in deal to exploit (like there is at EB right now) I'd probably pick it up just for the hell of it to add to the "collection". I wouldn't pay any more than that though. Hell, I even bought a sealed copy of Drake for 96 cents even though I don't have an Xbox. It has a special place at the bottom of the Metacritic rankings so I thought it would be cool to own :D.

i really don't understand why collecting threads always turn into arguments.

i collect games. just DS games. i don't buy gamecube games, i don't buy xbox games, i don't buy GBA games... i've made a decision to focus on one system, so with the exception of a few odds and ends from before i started collecting, my 169 games is it.

i don't hurt anyone else by collecting games. it's not like every time i buy a new game, i go out and rape someone's daughter. i go to work, support my family. my money is spent on bills, games, gas, food, and furniture for my new house. that's it. i don't do anything else, and it's by choice. upon evalution, and re-evaluation, i'm happy with this life.

i don't even brag about my collection. i'm always happy to post in threads like these, just to show what is clearly an extreme end of the spectrum. but i have never, nor will i ever, start a thread about my massive collection, or any size of a collection. i'm not doing this to impress people, i'm doing it because it's fun to me. i don't drink. i don't have halo. this is what's fun for me.

do i buy a lot of games that suck? sure. is it pointless? not in the least. you can't have a truly 'complete' collection unless you have the ones that suck too. i don't regret buying a single game. and i've played them all, beaten probably most of them, and completed a fair share... even the bad ones. from phoenix wright to franklin the turtle... i've managed to find SOMETHING good in almost all the games.

now, having said all of that, what i don't understand is why anyone would try to come in here and actually spend time saying that my collection is pointless, or a waste of time and money... you don't have to understand collectors, but face it... we're out here. for everything you could imagine, there's somebody out there who has it in excess.

the only explanation that i can possibly imagine is that people who go dumping on the collectors are jealous. think about it. if a person just didn't 'get' the concept of collecting, they would likely be indifferent. "so that person has a lot of DS games... big deal. good for them, move on." however, a person that harbors enough anger to call collectors names, attack the quality of their life, and act immature about it... there has to be a reason.

certainly, that person could just be an asshole, and there's plenty of that here too. but i think that these people have something... financial status, parents, a wife, a girlfriend, peer pressure... something that is keeping them from being able to do the same kind of collecting. so, since others have what they can't, they use anger as a defense mechanism... "you have all the DS games? who cares? my life is better than yours."

but all of this talk... defense mechanisms, re-evaluating life, collector mentality, and self esteem issues... it's psycho-babble bullshit that i'm sure none of us are qualified to talk about. at the end of the day, it's about having fun. video games are about having fun. collecting is about having fun. drinking beer and playing halo is about having fun.

so shut up with the criticism and let people do what they want. none of us are in any place to judge others.

Just got my cute, pink DS on Friday and picked up 4 games. I bought 2 the week before I had my DS, so my total collection is 6. I've played 4 cause I had a really busy weekend that didn't include any time for video games :cry:

Thanks to CAG my XBox collection went from about 15 to around 60 this spring and summer.

Xbox is my first console and DS is my first handheld I've ever owned, so maybe, at 41, I'm making up for lost time.

I try to buy games I will play, either that score really well or don't score so high but look interesting to play. Maybe 70% and above at GameRankings.com.

At 60 my Xbox collection seems a bit big for me to handle, but I figure there are maybe 10 more I want. And they will stop making them soon. So I'll have those 70 or so to play for a long time to come.

I'm looking forward to the fall and Xmas sales to add to my DS collection. It looks like a lot of great games are on the horizon.

I own 21 DS games. I'll be over at Best Buy tomorrow to pick up Clubhouse Games, which will be my 22nd game.

It's very rare for me to own so many games so early on in a console's life-cycle. The DS's promise for a new way to play games keeps keeps me buying new games - I just can't wait to see what each developer has done with the unique control scheme. The amazing thing about my 'collection' is that no 2 games are alike. It seems that each game is of a completely different genre, control scheme, or gameplay mechanic. Of course, since it's on the DS, it's also unlike any other game across my entire gaming collection. For me, that speaks loads about the DS as a gaming platform.

as for the DS games, I want to play them...but i want to finish my GBA ones....I do not want to go back and forth between the graphics

and if i could find more time between the playoffs (Lets Go Mets GO) and hanging out after work I might actually dent it.

I have a short-list of DS games that I've always been interested in, but don't have enough interest to pay for... since we have some collectors in this thread, I'm wondering if anyone can offer some quick impressions of the following:
- Monkey Ball DS
- True Swing Golf
- Point Blank
- Pac n Roll
- Dig Dug

Most of these games received luke-warm reviews (and can usually be found for <$15), so I'm curious to hear some impressions from people who have played them.

Of the ones I played that you mention, you're not missing much. Monkey Ball's control gets annoying; Point Blank can only do so much without an actual gun; Pac'n Roll is good but forgettable -- as is Dig Dug. And this from someone who LOVES the old Dig Dug, adores Monkey Ball, and thinks Point Blank is the best gun-game series ever.

Sadly, I think that I'm going to sell off most of collection tho in anticipation of the next generation of gaming.
