1. I need a decent video card, any "cheap ass" suggestions?

2. What's a good resource for pc game info? Reviews?

3. Where to order besides the usual EB,GS, CC, and other retailers with only a few available titles?

thanks,

RC

video card....dunno, all that stuff changes so much.
2. pc reviews? probably gamespot still. that's what i read cuz there aren't many good pc mags around anymore. pc gamer USED to be good.
3. gogamer.com has some good deals. I don't know of any small computer game stores, but compusa and fry's usually has good stuff. good luck!

PCI-E or AGP? system specs? i've got a 7600GT PCI-E and it does well in current games, probably can get one for $130 AR now. i use metacritic for all my review needs. best buy and walmart have a pretty good pc selection.

oh yeah i've got a few PC games i want to trade for anything if you're interested:

Splinter Cell + Pandora Tomorrow
Max Payne 2

--------

i'm the opposite, used to be a pc gamer exclusively, now into consoles a lot more. i spent ~$600 on my rig last summer (essentially just to play games) and this year sold my old vid card and paid $190 for the 7600GT, got a new(old) monitor $120... can get expensive even on the moderate to low end.

i used to be fine with crappy graphics cuz i didn't know what i was missing. but that was before i saw HL2 @ 1280x960 w/4xAA, high quality settings with framerates 60 fps constant. eye candy is an addiction..

Another dumb question. Any way to bump up the video mb's on a notebook? I have a couple of nice notebooks that aren't older than 2 YO but the video only has 64mb.

thanks again,

RC

i'd second the 7600gt. it will play most games on hight settings. exceptions are games like oblivion. but it will still play it at med to med-high settings.

You want to get PCI-Express

As for upgrading the notebook's video card, make sure that it's even possible to upgrade it for your notebook, then purchase a brand new video chip for notebooks like the Geforce Go 7900GS

what kind of desktop do you have and when did you buy it? brand, model number, whatever. a x16 PCI-E slot is only present in newer computers so if it's a year or older it probably is AGP.

if your computer has PCI-E then 7600GT for sure, otherwise for AGP i think the 7600GS is probably the best option. both are around $150 or less. if you're thinking even cheaper then look on ebay for 6600GT's in AGP or radeon X800 variations.

7900GS for the desktop can be had for under $200. Awesome card with great OC ability most can be easily OC'd to 7900GT speed with no problems. You really need to give more details as to what you are looking to spend and what kind of system you are putting it into.
