Pokemon Ruby Question

I just got into Slateport and I'm trying to figure out my team for the rest of the game. Here are the pokemon I've caught so far, starting with the pokemon on my team:

Marshtomp Lv 19
Aron lv 10
magikarp lv 10
mew lv 15 (from tru giveaway)
poochyena lv 14
Taillow lv 11

geodude lv 8
makuhita lv 8
zubat lv11
mawile lv 9
celebi lv70
black charizard lv 100 (celebi and charizard were traded to me while waiting for mew)

I'm from the RBY pokemon era so I'm not too familiar with all the new pokemon. What's a good solid team to have/catch while your completeing your game?

and can someone please tell me how to catch abra in the granite cave! I've tried catching it but it keeps teleporting out of battle! What pokemon can I use to catch it?

For the Abra, you need someone with high speed (agility) who has an ability to either put someone to sleep or to stun. then you have a couple of chances to catch it. I also recommend holding down the A button while the ball is out there. I think it helps. That one is a keeper for your party.

Only 2 more to go to complete the set. Good job getting the Celebi, I need that one.

any pokemon I can use that have those abilities to stop abra in it's tracks?

You should try getting a pokemon that knows sleep powder or something similiar in order to put abra to sleep.
I suggest that you capture and train an oddish to lvl 18 in order to gain sleep powder.

I think I used him as well. he also learns stun spore which is good too. catch some grass type.
