View Full Version : Q| Does the Wiimote work for FPSs like Call of Duty 3? A| Yes and Oh So Satisfying!

For those of us concerned about how good the Wiimote will actually be as good as hoped when it comes to FPS, our fears can be put aside according to some initial reactions from Gamespot's Wii testing from Call of Duty 3.

Aside from this difference, the game played like you'd expect. All the core mechanics are the same here as in the PS3 and 360 versions--the difference is merely in how you interface with the game. Luckily, horizontal and vertical sensitivity adjustments were available in the build we played, so we could fine-tune the aiming to our liking, and afterward, we found the actual shooting gameplay to be more satisfying and skill-based than when played with a standard analog thumb stick. With the more flexible aiming, it became more realistic to switch to iron sights and squeeze off a quick headshot to take out that soldier just barely peeking over the barrier. We're looking forward to getting more time with this and other Wii games to get a better feel for this sort of unique FPS gameplay, which seems to approximate the feel of mouse aiming on the PC.

Glad they included a calibration option so each of us can adjust the Wiimote to our liking.

In the videos that evanft posted earlier from Red Steel, you could see they also have options to tune for wide movements or small movements.

Cause the Wii's all about having fun, not trying to have a status symbol in your entertainment center. Go ahead, act like a dork, and have a blast doing it. I know I will be. ;)

With this game, I suddenly have an itch to play CoD3. I've never played any of the WWII / hyper realistic FPSs on the PC or consoles ever before...

I am dying to play this game. At first, I only wanted Red Steel and Zelda. But now I am also dying to play Madden 07, Call of Duty 3, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Super Monkey Ball. I am really looking forward to CoD 3. It will be awesome. And I can almost gurantee that I will be giddy and look like a dork when I play it. And I'm ok with that.

I think the option used in the video only affected the sword fighting.

FPS controls on the Wii should operate like the expert controls do in MP3. Look at the "Federation Ship Full Walkthrough" and "Expert Controls" videos and compare them to Red Steel. Red Steel is still using that invisible box that force you to move your gun to the side of the screen to turn.

Too bad multi-console users will have to choose between the awesome Wii controls and an online mode. :-(

Unless of course they are able to add WiFi funcionality at some later date after the game is released. They're still doing the "no 3rd-party WiFi until 2007" thing, right?
