Follow their instructions on what to upload and such, then get the files together in a folder and follow this guide (http://teoulas.myname.gr/azureus/). I've uploaded a few things before, but I lack the patience to just randomly check to see if something I have is or isn't up, so I just seed what I take.

To avoid people uploading mp3's with low bitrates, people who don't seed, and countless other forms of asshole-ism. Of course, I mean why would OiNK would use in invitation system only. I'm not sure if that's what you meant, I really couldn't understand what the hell you said.

OiNK rules your soul! Thanks modium again if you read this... I just tend to see whatever I get depending on how I feel it is going. Somtimes I can get a 4.0 ratio (Hells yaeh).

Edit: By the way, anybody got a indietor invite? I don't have any invites myself, but I share (nearly a .7 ration on OiNK without UL my own torrents *not an easy thing mind you, especially on OiNK* and I'm good at Demonoid).

Man, I feel like keeping my ratio at an acceptable level is going to be tough on Oink!. The newer albums have so many seeders that it's impossible to get any uploads, and the older albums have so few D/Ls that it's hard to get any uploads. :(

But I took the 5 or 6 real CD's I actually owned, ripped them into FLAC format, which is something the Audiophiles on OiNK love, and now my ratio is at 6.082, despite having pretty crappy upload speeds. Or, you can just find a friend who has a bunch of REAL CD's, see if anyone on OiNK has requested them, and then upload them. I did that for a couple CD's, and it worked wonders on my ratio.

Basically, what FLAC is, it's a format in which you lose NOTHING when you rip a song from a CD to your computer. OiNK is big on hating "lossy" formats of music, in which the music quality takes a step down in the process of ripping it.

That tutorial should get you started with ripping songs into FLAC format. It looks long, but it's actually pretty damn easy, and it's worth it, if you wanna keep your ratio up, since FLAC files are pretty damn big (my 3 disc Early November FLAC format rip is 847 MB's).

yaeh, I was just about to post this. Since you're big on using as little hard-drive space as possible, I'd recommend getting an external HD and setting it up with your FLAC rips. FLACs sound great, but the Ipod doesn't handle them unless you throw on rockbox. I have very few FLACs for when I throw up some good speakers on my computer, otherwise stick to mp3, but FLACs will definitely increase your ratio at a very quick pace.

Even with transcodes you can get a pretty decent ratio boost until the mods over there remove them.

If it's not in the request title for either FLAC, MP3, V0, etc. than you should check the request description. Otherwise 192 or higher, but do V0 all the time anyhow.

All you have to do is allow HTTP, there's even a button for it... looks like this:

i'll agree with myspleen. although looking at the first page of the browse list makes it look like an adult swim tracker, there is a lot of really neat/weird/rare stuff on there. it's also great for mystery science theater 3000 episodes.

It is mainly an adult swim tracker, but they have some stuff off comedy central and some other oddball stuff too like the MST3K things, and a few Star Wars odds and ends....I've been using them for a couple years, I love the tracker :D

It still doesn't have everything I want, but it makes aquiring large quantities easier. Trying to find all 50 discs of the Merzbox individually would be a nightmare. Being able to just type "merzbox" and have them all right there is a lot simpler. It's not going to replace SS, but it's a nice sidebar.

I remember using a lot of Merzbow and Melt Banana on my torture mixes, a year or so ago. Abrasive stuff, to say the least. Though I do definitely plan on grabbing some of this type of stuff in the future though.

If you want some REALLY fucking harsh torture, try a group called Villa Valley. Out of all the noise artists I have, they are by far the hardest to listen to. I'll see if I can toss their CD on OiNK when I get back to WA.

I am pretty sure the time outs and lag speed of Mininova is slowly killing me. A friend reccomended revolutiott for torrents, but apparently you need an invite. This is the first I have heard of these outside of empornium.

(I'm using uTorrent by the way)It's hard to rely on seeding just things you downloaded. Probably 95% of the 14.06 gigs I've uploaded have come from torrents I uploaded myself. With those other torrents, the people with the fastest connections are the ones who will seed the most. I'm sure that you've got some actual CD's around your house, and someone wants them in a format it's not already in. That's what helped me out. I basically uploaded 10 gigs worth of stuff by ripping only 5 CD's.

Learing to rip CD's into FLAC format is the way to go. The file sizes are huge (A regular, 40 minute CD is about 150-200 megs), and the Audiophiles at OiNK love it. Of course, you need the actual retail CD in order to do that...

(I'm using uTorrent by the way)Try going to Preferences-->BitTorrent-->Protocol Encryption-->Outgoing and setting it to enabled, along with checking the "Allow Incoming Legacy Connections" box.


Also, leave uTorrent running at ALL times, unless you're trying to play games online.

I've heard of that. That's why I'd be fearful of going there. I've read reports around the net about people who only get comics through tors and they were sent letters. Others for simply getting Linux through Demonoid. I used to use them for comics, but am too fearful now. kray - torrent site similar to punktorrents.com (great site by the way), but with generally higher quality torrents. Pretty much an everything music torrent site, which was great long ago, but didn't have enough funds so they took it down for a bit and did a redesign which made it look a thousand times better. Has all kinds of music on it, but mostly leans in the direction of punk, ska (YES!), hardcore, etc.

IP - general torrent site on the level of demonoid without the bad seeders, etc. Lots of variety. send me a PM if you need to know more.

I'll continue looking for a DVD rip if that doesn't suit you.My worry with that is that it's gonna go incredibly slow, and the quality will probably be awful, like someone taped the shows off TV back in the 90's, and converted them. But I'll check it out. Thank goodness for the ability to only download certain files.
