My girlfriend finally picked up a pink DS Lite this past weekend (which BTW actually looks pretty awesome) and I've finally had a chance to spread my multiplayer wings with her. As much as she loves Big Brain Academy and Tetris, the one game we both can't wait to play is a DS version of Mario Party. Why hasn't Nintendo mentioned anything about it yet? We get about four different versions on the cube but so far nada on the DS. The game would translate beautifully to the portable and offer tons of great multiplayer experiences (even if it was just a port of one of the N64 versions, though hopefully not).

What I'm guessing is that a DS version of Mario Party will be available by November '07, just in time to coincide with a possible Mario Party Wii version. All speculation but dreams are fun.

Check out the multiplayer part of New Super Mario Bros, if you haven't already. Consists of a set of minigames.

Mario Party Advanced for the GBA took a very long time to come out. There's no reason to believe that it'll take some time for the DS version to come out. My guess is January/March 08.

It seems that with each release, they're pushing the bounds of the WiFi connection a little bit more to make it more robust and entertaining. I'd imagine that Mario Party DS will have that as well as some Wii linkup.

I'd guess they're planning something huge for it, but they've never been shy about releasing incremental upgrades in the past to the series, why not release something now?

That's what's been plaguing me. It's not like Smash Bros where each generation gets only one game--I mean we've already had about 4 different versions for GC alone!

I've been wondering about this same topic ever since I got my DS a few months ago. If this game came out, my friends would definitely go and get a DS and we'd all play online. Heck, I almost had them convinced to buy a DS after they played the mini-games in NSMB.

Who cares, there's already too many Mario Party games, and a Wii version would likely take priority over DS. The real question is when do we get a Smash Bros. DS

I'm already drooling thinking of the mass carnage that would ensue over wi-fi.

Hmm, is it similar to Mario Party? It looks good and it's made by Square, so that's always plus.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Mario Party for the DS and Wii announced for next year. Hopefully it will be a new experience.

It's bound to happen sooner or later. And Smash Bros, too.

I'd also like to see Pikmin on the DS.

Mario Party for the DS would seem to be an easy fix, as all they would really have to do is port over the engine from one of the N64 versions (since that is essentially what a DS is). Minor updates to add touch control, and boom, you got the game ready to go. Thankfully, Nintendo doesn't seem to be going for the quick cash-in on this, yet. Maybe that's a good sign that we'll get something kind of unique for the series.

On the other hand, the lack of even a basic Smash Bros. port is unforgivable.

it is not. Mario 64 is actually recoded for the DS version.

I understand that it is not the same hardware, but power wise it is essentially the same. A PS2 and XBOX aren't the same hardware either, but ports from to the other aren't really too big a deal. Same should be for N64 titles and DS ports.

it would make more sense to create a new engine for DS. It is not like the PSP games where it uses the same code as the PS/PS2 games.
