My wife wanted me to pre-order a Wii, but I wasn't feeling well and overslept. You guys think these things will be that hard to get come launch time? I thought Nintendo was claiming to already have a ton made. I have never been one to pre-order consoles, got my PS2, Xbox, Cube, DS, PSP on launch day no problem. Did pre-order a PS3 earlier this week though. The wife isn't really a gamer but she wants us to own all the consoles (lucky me!) at launch and I think the Wii will have a lot of games she will like.

Dang, my Gamestop said they weren't doing pre-orders for Wii accessories. Now I see lots of people were able to. Think I'm gonna have to go back.
Wow dont see how you could let that happan. A few people with kids ya....but man to let 16 people cut in front of you. My ass would have been sitting AGAINST the door to make no mistakes im first in line.
He never said he was first. In fact, by his implications, he was 14th.

My pre-order story was a little bit of luck. I'm in Daytona Beach and there's two EB's within reach. However my job is in Port Orange and there's a EB about 10 mins away from my job site. I ride to the Mc'D (Where I meet my boss for breakfast every work day, he owns a small wholesale nursery) and somehow explain to a 87 year old man about the Wii and my need to preorder it. He didn't really seem to mind much at all, long as I stay extra for how ever much time I waste at EB. (I still don't think he fully understood but hell, he let me go)
We drive by there around 7:47 and there's no one, cars but no one's in them. We head to work, eat and get started (I had four hours of trench digging to do to lay some wire..and I mean three foot deep trench). 9am rolls around and I call the EB, no answer and just say "Screw it" tell my boss i'm off to preorder, hop on my bike and ride the 10 mins up the street. There's 6 people outside but as I pull up, I also spot the manager who used to work in the same mall I did. One of the line people says "It's okey" and I get my little disclaimer slip with a number on it #7. Turns out there's only EIGHT units for us, not counting the 4 that the employees are nabbing.
Five minutes later, a mother with her leg in a cast hobbles up and gets 8. We stand around talking and stuff, all friendly like till 10. Inbetween then we turn about 10 people away and the manger was like "Great, this is gonna be a fun day." I put $100 down on the Wii, go ahead and shell out for the EW, and grab a second controler and nunchuck. ($10 each) I've already got Zelda, Trama, Red Steal and Metal slug with $5 down from a day or two before in order to try and hedge my bets on getting a Wii.
It was fun, but a little stressful and when I think about it, insane having to camp for pre-orders, but PS2 and 360 sort of broke the "Let's just freely take pre-orders" mold, so it's not so bad and this sort of thing only happens every four years. I'm glad it's over and done with though, now there's just the five weeks before launch.

Might as well chime in here with my adventure....
I go to the the nearest GS at 9:15 where a crowd of about 10 -12 people had already bonded and all stared at me as I stood there before one of them kindly informed me that the 9 Wiis were already alloted and pointed me to EBG that might still have a few left. So I drive to the EBG and was #10 in line (9:40)and the store apparently had 30 for pre-order. They opened the doors at 10:00 and there were still not that many people. I called the store at 1:15pm and they still had one left at that time.
Got a question, what is the Virtual Controller that I've seen being mentioned in this thread?
Dang, my Gamestop said they weren't doing pre-orders for Wii accessories. Now I see lots of people were able to. Think I'm gonna have to go back.
Dude, they had a whole sheet full of stuff - Wiimotes, nunchucks, classic controllers, carry packs, controller gloves, even the SD memory cards (512 and 1 GB). Some stupid kid in front of me paid cash for the 512 SD card ($40) - stupid because any SD card will work and you don't need to pay full retail for the Nintendo-branded one.
I'm surprised they didn't have the list there because every item they get people to preorder helps out their numbers. The guy at my EB was pushing stuff (politely, but pushing nonetheless :D) on everyone. Even the people who missed out on system preorders still preordered Wiimotes and games.

The Gamestop I was at got an updated list of launch stuff like 10 minutes before the store opened... the original list didn't have any of the controllers or anything on it, but by the time we were able to pre-order, that was an option. Maybe the people at your GS weren't aware there was an update yet.

That's very George McFly/Ned Flanders of you, Poopface. Would I let a kid sitting behind me have a foul ball I caught over him at an MLB game? Provided he wasn't being a blatant brat, yes. Would I let a kid take my spot for a console preorder and, in the process, allow other assorted asses to seep in the gap? Unless he was dressed like one of the Cratchits ("God bless us, each and every fanboy!") or had a 'Make A Wish' t-shirt on, then (in a Will Smith voice) "Aw, hell no!"

Primarily meant for classic console games available via the Virtual Console. $20. A solid investment, considering how big the VC is going to be for so many Wii owners.

Oh, and another surprise - most of the people in line were considerably older than me. And I'm 38! It was wierd, it was either 40's and up, or teenagers. No 20-somethings to be seen (ie, most of CAG).
Our line was almost all 20-somethings...literally ALL, actually, if i remember correctly. The guy next to me commented that, at 26, he was probably the oldest there. Then again, we're a college town, so it's expected I suppose.

Jiminy Christmas...Hearing my wife say "I want us to own all the consoles" is about as likely as hearing her say, "I want us to have sex with these 8 nymphomaniacal lingerie models I brought home."

Today I got there at 8:50, and there were 8 people already there. I didn't think that many people would be waiting, considering the small lil town I live in. There was an ex-employee and fellow worker(from my job) there who had benn there since 5 and 6 in the morning. Must've been cold. There was some 25 year old guy with his mom, which was kinda depressing, considering he still lives at home and does nothing but play games. They were both kinda big people. Some smokers ended the list. They handed out papers to all of us, to save our spot in line, and I scored the last one! It was real close. Soon after one of my friends show up and leaves when he hears the news only to come back a second time to ask more questions. one of the managers kindly came out and gave his pre-order to him. We waited till 10, and everyone there seemed to enjoy smoking to my heart's discontent. Some goofballs came in after they opened only to leave again, ticked off. Ah well, I even made it to class on time.

I dont get the whole VC thing. If they had made it really cheap maybe....but honestly im not gonna pay $7 for something I can emulate...or for that matter buy the origional off of ebay for that much or less. For games like CT if you hate emulation it makes sense....but most games you can buy an origional copy for cheaper.

There's something to be said for that, but there are, believe it or not, games on the VC that I don't have...or never played.
Listen, I don't know anyone here that well, and I probably shouldn't admit something so heinous and scandalous, but...I've never...I've never...oh, hell--I've never owned a SNES. There. I said it. What else do you want me to admit? That I've never played Super Mario 64??
(Cups mouth in horror)
The Virtual Console also streamlines the experience. It's not going to be just Nintendo consoles. Having to clutter up your 'entertainment area' with old, wonky consoles is inconvenient and an eyesore. There are licensed games that make the relics worth keeping, but this gives the Wii 50% more relevance for so many of us.

I would have gone with, "You know, that attitude is precisely why you're here and your husband's at work giving it long and hard to Jenny in accounting."
And THEN I would have told them about the vibrating Wang-mote.
If I were 30, I would've told them it was for my dad ;)

Uh, yes, actually, I must have blocked those out of my mind. They were listed for $59.99. HOWEVER, I still think these are the 3rd party (Mad Catz?) ones listed on the web site. My only hope was that they also had some Nyko airflo thing listed on there - so it wasn't exclusively Nintendo stuff (though most of it was). If the Nintendo-branded ones are $59.99 I'm throwing my Wii at Reggie :D. Especially after they came out with the $20-$30 pricing for Japan.

The VC has one great advantage: I don't have to track down a working console and working game in order to play something classic. I also don't have to deal with buggy emulators.
I'll pay $7 to play an SNES game the way it's meant to be played - on my couch, with a Coke, dogbone controller in hand.

Ya but alot of those games you can do that with if you just hit up ebay. Outside RPGs and a few rare others you can get these games for $0.01-$10 on ebay with $2 or $3 being the average. A super Nintendo system itself will only run you about $20ish last I looked.

I had a NES that I played with for about a month when I had knee surgery in college, then I just got a Gamecube a few years ago, so I've only played a handful of pre-GC Nintendo games. I played Mario 64 in emulation on the computer (that is what convinced me to get the GC and now near 60 games by the way - so hooray for emulators!). So, I get some of what you are saying as I'm in the same boat. HOWEVER, unlike most CAGs I do not have fond memories of Mario or Zelda from childhood and when I look at those old games, frankly, I think they look like crap. Heresy, I know, but hey... I moved on from console games to the computer for a reason in the 80's.
That said, I will probably pick up a few - maybe some of the SMB just for my son's sake (to show him the history of Mario) and probably Mario 64. Maybe one of the StarFox games to see if everyone here is full of BS or not (they all cream over the old ones and think Star Fox Assault and Command are crap). But I'm really going to try to limit my VC purchases. Yeah, I say that now, but we'll see :D.

1.) Most of what I want to play is those RPGs and other, rarer games that I didn't have a chance to play.
2.) Between the space, the extra wires and my completist streak, the money's worth it to me.
3.) I don't doubt that pricing structure will be altered based on feedback ((or lack thereof) from Wii owners.
Right now, I can get Illusion of Gaia for seven bucks. I can get Castlevania IV for around ten bucks. Super Metroid is $15-20. Even Super Mario World is around six bucks. (eBay prices and yes, I'm sure you'll be able to find somewhat cheaper versions on eBay right after I post this and no, I don't care.) Long story short, to play a lot of the games I'd want to play, the Virtual Console is, on average, around what I'd pay anyway, or a little less. Add to that the cost of a Classic Controller being about the cost of one of those three systems, and really, my choice is clear.

One potential downside to the Virtual Console, however, is that many games you or I or any number of Wii owners want may not appear on it for a very long time, if ever.
Big fan of my 360, but Nintendo could really put Live Arcade to shame if they wanted to. I'd like to think we'll get at least a couple new games a week from launch on for it, but maybe I'm sniffing too many markers and Wite-Out for suggesting that Nintendo may actually be prolific for once in the last decade.

Your point 3 is part of the reason I cant see people buying games now. If you wait a bit and it fails horribly they will lower the outragous prices.

Also, being able to play all those games on one console is really nice. I don't have room to have a NES, SNES, and N64 hooked up at the same time. Too much stuff. With the wii I have all of those ready to go with only one console hooked up. It sounds great to me.

Realistically, I don't expect a single Virtual Console price cut until Summer at earliest and probably not even that soon. They're going to give everyone a fair opportunity to get a Wii and these games. Only when there are dozens of games available will some perhaps see a reduction.
Live Arcade, for example, launched with a decent amount of games and then there was virtually (ha!) nothing for months on end after that. I suspect it was Microsoft allowing people time to get their consoles after the shortage and then spending points on games they hadn't had a chance to buy yet, before the Arcade Wednesdays were introduced. (The old games would've been mostly lost in the mix, but the 'drought' encouraged people to spend points on both the old and then the new later.)

My original plan this morning was to get to EB at 8:00 am. This one, in Aliso Viejo CA, opens at 11am.
But, there's a fundraiser at my kid's school, and they need help starting at 8am. So I go there instead. I figure it will take an hour or so, and then I'll head to EB and I should be fine.
The fundraiser takes longer than that. I arrive at EB at 5 after 10. And there's a line. I guess there are about 40 people. I decide that it doesn't look good, but what the hell.
Some of these people have obviously been here for hours, camped out in foldup chairs. I did not expect this.
At 10:15, a guy from EB comes out and starts handing out numbers. He reaches 32 and says that's it for the store. There are about 8 people in front of me at this point.
Then, it gets interesting. He says that they're only going to receive 20 on launch day. The other 12 people will get theirs by Christmas.
He encourages the numberless people to stay, since it's possible that someone's credit card would decline and open up a spot. It happened at this store with the PS3. I think to myself, okay, I could see one declining, but not eight.
So I leave. I wasted very little time -- more on the car trip over than I did in line. And while I do want to use my EB credit to pay for the Wii, I would not have been thrilled to know that I probably wouldn't get one on the 19th -- I have no intention on camping out on a weekend to see which of the most rabid campers gets their Wii.
I then thought about what I'm going to do now. I don't believe that it's going to be terribly hard to find one this holiday season. If I wanted one on the 19th, I think I could get one. But I'd prefer it be at EB or TRU, where I have lots of store credit. Those options are looking the least likely.
But I also believe that Nintendo is going to be shipping these things at least weekly all through the holiday season. It does serve their interests to sell out on launch day to build hype, but it doesn't help them at all to hold on to product or let it trickle out at a snail's pace. They will sell the most between the 19th and Christmas, so I believe they are going to have lots of shipments and restockings during that time.
Kinda sucks that I'm going to have Zelda on the 19th (or 20th -- I don't know now if I'm going to bother going out on the 19th) but not a Wii. But that just means I'll have to wait a little longer. I waited this long -- hell, I've been waiting for over a year for Zelda, so what's a few weeks?

I went to an EB this morning at 9:30 and there was no line. I got out and a worker opens the door and says they sold out at 7am. So much for waiting until they open.
So I went to another EB at a mall nearby and there were about 30 people in line at 9:45. There were groups of family members, so I decided to wait and see.
Turns out they had 36 preorders. 4 went to employees and 32 for sale to us. I was #25 and got one.
There were a lot of people that showed up in line after me, after the store opened but they were mostly SOL. There were about 30 people in line after I got mine, and around that time the worker counted the remaining people off and told everyone else they were out.
Also preordered Zelda.
I am just glad that I could preorder it so I don't have to hunt for one, though I am 99% sure there will be plenty at Wal-Mart, why take a chance. And secondly, they were selling just the system without a craptastic bundle which was great.
They offered the Guide to Zelda for $7 (discounts for preordering). It sounded like a good deal, but I never use those so I passed.

Ha, I figured I'd get a response like that. But really, I stopped liking console games when computer gaming took off because I really liked the ability to SAVE games. I hated playing through Atari and Colecovision games only to lose all progress when I turned off. Same for NES (I did have Zelda 2 with it's save feature which was nice). I have bought the classic Zelda's for GBA, and a few others too (mostly because I found them for $3-$5). So I'll probably get a few VC games for each system (NES, SNES, N64). But I have so many GC/PS2 games I have yet to get to, that I don't need to spend alot of time and energy (let alone money) on too many VC games.
Like I said, I will get the SMB/SMW games for my sons just to show them the history of Mario (though to me they mean nothing personally). They will like to play them anyway (just yesterday my 6 year-old was looking that that avatar someone has on CAG with the Mario jumping on the flag and having it fall over and he really wanted that game - meanwhile my 3 year-old laughed histerically at it ).

Yup, no need to preorder this thing. There will be eben more than when gamecube launched, and I got a GC without preordering or anything. I'm gonna camp out in a 24hr walmart to be safe, but I wouldn't be surprised if with the numbers they are saying, that within the first couple weeks of launch you could walk into a store a snag one, if not on launch day itself.

I had enough credit at GS to pay it off in full, so I wanted be sure to get it there rather than else where.
Otherwise I'd wait a while as I really couldn't afford $300 right now after taking an expensive vacation a couple months ago.

See, that's the thing. I wanted to use my EB credit for both PS3 and Wii and now I'm done. No camping out release day or even trying to chase down a Wii - yes, they will be more plentiful but it still might be a hassle and it will be near the height of Christmas shopping. I already had the EB credit to cover both - there will be no hit to my credit card now :D.

I doubt people would switch to the Wii after not getting a PS3 since many people want the ps3 for it's powerful graphics whereas the Wii is just a turbocharged Gamecube.
But that does insure that production will be quite fast and everyone who wants a Wii will get one ;)

I planned on pre-ordering this morning...but, well ya know
Last night: I never bothered to call them to see what time they opened
This morning: I woke up when my dad called, since he had he day off, and I decided I wanted to go to my parents house for the weekend and since I have terrible vision, I can't legally drive. He knew I wanted to go and pre-order too. So after the call, he drove by the Gamestop, saw no one, then came by my house (I also live with my brother and a couple of his friends), we spent more than enough time there then went to the Gstop. The employee said they were out and something about a line since..I think 8am. (can't remember)
So now I'll probably be waiting in line at Wal-Mart or something.

Yeah, I know it's like apples and oranges. But still the Wii has arguably the most advanced controller on the market :hot:. I'm pretty excited about it 8-).
PS3 availability is gonna be a mess like the 360 one .

Reserved/Paid off mine today. I was second in line right behind Wolve22. Speaking of, enjoy your leave Wolve you deserve every minute of it. Line wasn't bad, but did build up closer to opening.
This is YMMV, but Wolve22 told me that when he spoke to a GS/EB employee they told him anyone coming in should get a Wii. Now I'm guessing since the store we reserved at only had 11 for launch the employee meant that everyone would have a Wii before/by Christmas.
Damn Neudog, did you drive straight home to the internet and CAG as soon as you got it? I continued on to flip games around the place since the deal is expiring tomorrow and I saw a guy wanting to trade in his DS. GS was only offering the guy $28 for his phat DS so I offered him $35 and I ended up with it.
Yea what I heard was definitely YMMV, but I think the employee was wrong, because the employee at the store where we were at actually said that the only people that would get systems were the ones who pre-ordered it, cutting out the fact of having to camp out on launch day because there's only enough for pre-order fulfillments.
What was weird was that our store had less Wiis than PS3s. They said that they only had 11 Wiis and 16 PS3s, and of course when I went on to different stores to flip games they still had pre-orders available probably till about lunch time. After that they were all gone at different stores. Of course non of the employees would reveal the numbers that were released at their store, except I guess the place where we went to pre-order ours.

Im not really that suprised. Alot of gamers are pissed at Sony and will simply not be buying a PS3 because it costs too much. Meanwhile every gamer supports Nintendo...and this gen they have their best product in like 12 years.

I had a 9-11 Cisco class today that I couldn't miss since we had a test. We started the test at 10 and I got done early (around 9:15 or so and I got a 18/19 :) ) so after talking to my friends for a minute I went over to my local Gamestop, got there at around 10:30, and they were sold out. :(
I didn't think I would have any problems getting a preorder that late, but I guess I'll be spending several hours at Walmart on the 18th.

$50 down-will begin as soon as BigBook hits your mailbox or newspaper-TRU will have between two and four days to preorder as many as they can- Most Rzone associates do not have this info yet.....Do not panic you will be able to get a Wii preorder. Apparently TRU will be the official launch partner for the Wii. Finally that Nintendo relationship will pay off!!! I can not say how I have this info but remember October 29th the day after the B2G1 Free sale ends. Also in case anyone missed it, B2G1 free will include ALL VIDEO GAMES!!!

Question; I paid for my console in full, but have just recieved a coupon for CC good for 40$ off a 200 purchase. If I were to open the Wii and eventually buy another Wii at CC when they get them in like say a week later, would the sku's be the same, or rather, could I just take back the CC Wii to EBgames and return it, or would that not work.

Usually they are sold by SKU and by the specific serial number.

This would work w/ video games, but not systems, as systems come w/ serial numbers that are typically printed on the receipt. Whenever a system is returned, it is compared to the serial number on the receipt. You must return the system that was purchased at the store. There are some stores that do not put the serial numbers on the receipt, but most do. I know that walmart does, as does eb/gamestop.

Thanks for the idea, Botticus. I updated the title. I was lucky enough to get a Wii pre-order after going to my 4th EB/GS ! I was #3 in line for a PS3 at 9:30 so thought I would have no trouble going at 9:30 for the Wii. Boy, was I wrong. Racing around, I got to the 4th store at 10:15 where I was #28 out of 30. Whew! (Now if only Target would do pre-orders so I can get the 10% off by applying for their credit card.)

Thanks for the info. :)
Will Toys R Us have a pre-order only release for the console and the games, or will they take pre-orders AND also carry enough for non-pre-orders at launch?
Also, if they're pre-order only, how much does it take to pre-order games; $5?
Thanks again for sharing the news with us, I might break my Wal-Mart plan to do a Toys R Us wait, especially if I can do it without pre-ordering...and most definitely if they do midnight launches, which I suspect they don't (but what do I know).

Look for your BigBook in the mailbox. If you have purchased anything in the last few months and gave up your phone number you should get one in the mail. You have to remember ther are over 4500 Gamestop storesX12 per store=54,000 consoles. There are less than 400 TRU locations now. That is well over 100 per location and if what we are being told is correct our allocation is greater than Gamestop's.....

I'll have to talk to my local store as we get closer to the release for more specific info about what's up there, I suppose!

I've thought about it and decided that I'm going to pre-order at TRU instead of doing the Wal-Mart wait if I can get some sort of indication that my TRU is doing a midnight launch. I just hope there's no problem ensuring that the games I want are in stock; I'd hope that pre-ordering the console itself would mean that waiting in the big line would no longer be necessary, but if not waiting in line means a game like Zelda will sell out, then that worries me a bit. Hmm...
Here's a question: sren9, you mentioned that pre-ordered consoles are stored away until the customer comes to pick them up. Well, will we be able to show up as soon as the store opens for launch and bypass the main line of non-pre-order people, or will we have to wait behind 'em before we can get in? Or is that perhaps a store-by-store question... Perhaps anyone who has bought consoles at launch from TRU could answer those questions too.
Thanks again for the help.

I'm sure Nintendo will ship the same number of Zelda units as they do Wii units. There's no point in making fewer Zeldas then Wiis since it's going to be the game with the highest attach rate beside Wii Sports.

Well, if not the same, very close to it. You also have to remember Nintendo is moving to the DVD format and it will be even easier for them to print mass quantities of games. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a copy of Zelda. Now, some of the more obscure launch titles might be harder to find.

Now that TRU has split from Amazon, it will be interesting to see how they handle things, both online and in-store. Still waiting to see if they're going to require Wii bundles in either setting. One would assume so, but their preferred status from Nintendo and the system's broad appeal makes me think they may not.

They're nothing system essential, it's just carrying bags and organizers, controller gloves, dog tags, and magnets. There's some other stuff that hasn't come in yet, but I think it's just gift cards and some sort of DVD. But I guess you could try pretending the controller glove is a wiimote? :P
Oh, ok. Never mind. I thought they were going to put out the Wii-motes and Nunchuks early.

Sweet. Thanks guys.
I wouldn't be so sure. Even though the GS I worked at was right across the street from EB and had the exact same computer systems, we couldn't take their store credit and they couldn't take ours. I'd call and ask first.

When was this? Was it when you guys had paper credit and they had edge cards? Last week the Houston area Gamestops started taking edge cards. Gamestop even put my new trade in credit on my old eb edge card.

Just spoke to the manager at the TRU near me in Akron and he said he did hear that it looks like we could do pre sales on the 29th. He said to watch for the toy book in the newspaper for more info. He said that there will more than likely be some sort of "bundle". He did not have any numbers as to how many they anticipate getting either.

It's not like they are going to bundle in Zelda, Red Steel, COD3, Trauma Center, etc. You'll be getting Excite Truck, Cars, NBA Live, Tony Hawk...

Maybe, maybe not. Toys R Us last year had a ton of different bundles online, some of which were quite good. I'm sure SOMEONE will have a bundle that includes Zelda and some of the other good ones. (Plus to an extent it's just personal preference).

Let's hope... but Zelda is a loonnggg shot. Retailers know that it is going to sell like hotcakes to Wii buyers - I see no advantage of them bundling it... in fact, they may actually lose sales. You may see three game bundles with one good (like Red Steel - although I think that game is going to disappoint a lot of gamers) and two junk games, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Of course, I hope I'm flat out wrong...even though I preordered mine a long time ago at Amazon, I don't like to see other people get screwed with bundles.

Actually, the more I read about Excite Truck, the more...well..excited about it I get. Online play would be nice, but sounds like it will be a blast with friends in the room and even single player. And the controls sound pretty innovative to me...Wheel-like control and responsiveness without having to use a wheel peripheral.
This is a game the screams for online play! As it has been stated in other articles, to control the truck you hold the Wiimote with both hands like your tilting a seesaw. The axis is extremely sensitive but the controls are simple enough that it only takes a minute to get used to playing. You push A to give your truck gas and the D-Pad to use your boost. Along the tracks you will fine little items that, when picked up, will completely change the course for the drivers around you. If you touch an item, the ground below your truck may suddenly drop down and a mountainous jump forms ahead. This adds a great multiplayer aspect to the game which would be perfect for the online service. When I asked the rep if Excite Truck would come with online play he only responded with, “I don’t think so, but why not?” Um ok.
Excite Truck was the only other game I played a fair time on. I'd previously seen it and thought "what have they done to excite bike", and passed it off as a cheap tacky tech demo that would be no fun to play.
How wrong I was.
After the initial turbulance of getting to grips with the movement sensitivity whilst holding the remote in 'handlebar' mode, I found myself sliding round the corners, turbo'ing over jumps and landing smoothly on any sloped surface, all using the remote's positioning. The racing was cheap and cheerful with item powerups to make things a little more fun and bonuses earnt by 'stunt' style landings and such, but it was definately fun - and what, ladies and gentlemen, is actually more important than that?
Sure you might think it's an arcade style of game, no lastability and you wouldn't want to play it for a long time.
Playing for prolonged periods of time doesn't seem to be Ninty's aim with most Wii titles. Having said that, I could've happily played a lot more Excite Truck - it simply kept you on your toes, ENGAGED with the game. Had I been racing with friends or even better online it would've been great!

TRU corporate will deny they are doing preorders because they do not want what will inevitably happen on the 29th. I stake my reputation as a retail consultant on these facts. The Wii preorders begin the 29th. You do not have to rush in or stand in line or any of that. We will be taking orders @ $50 down(NO BUNDLES) for at least a couple of weeks. Once again do the math. TRU has 500 some stores and Gamestop has 4500+. TRU will have over 100 Wiis per store. As for PS3, this is where the news gets bad. Each store will have between 2 and 4 systems to preorder. Luckily in BigBook it does state quantities are limited. So if you want a Wii...no problem. If you want a PS3...good luck...Once BigBook starts hitting mailboxes I will post the pages on here but I can not until then. Would any of my fellow TRU associates like to add anything? Guys if you want to see the BigBook the Directors received them last week. Also do not forget about this Sunday...Buy 2 Get 1 Free on ALL VIDEO GAMES!!!!!!!!!

I've never preordered anything at Toy's R Us (personally I'd rather do them than Gamestop though)...do they hold the system like Gamestop, and give you a day or two to pick it up? Hopefully you can kind of come in at your leisure to get it?
We're not going to have to line up the night before to do this or something crazy, are we? I guess I'm willing to show up an hour or two before it opens (although I'll look stupid if I'm standing there by myself!)
I hope Playstation 3 orders are the same day so I can maybe have a shot at both (as long as there aren't hundreds of people clogging up the line who only want a PS3 and won't leave after they're told they're out).

The way TRU preorders work is that they tag and label the item you preordered once it comes in and hold it for you until you pick it up. I think they will hold it for you for a couple of days but that policy could change on something as in demand as a Wii or PS3. That is what they did with my Halo 2 CE preorder. At mine, they lock up preorders in the glass case behind the counter, usually out of sight.

*calls sren out on 100 Wii's per store*
I call BS :P Your math assumes that TRU as a company will get the same number of Wii's as Gamestop, as a company, and that since you have 1/10th the number of stores, each TRU will get 10X as many systems.
I think the basic assumption behind your math is flawed, why would a company 1/10th the size of Gamestop get as many systems as Gamestop will?

We are now told even better news. We will have a couple of weeks to presell as many as we can. Remember the Xbox 360 last year? Remember how many more systems Best Buy received than Gamestop did? Same scenario this year just put Nintendo in the equation instead of Microsoft and TRU instead of Best Buy. As for a previous question posted earlier in the thread, TMX Elmo is in BigBook but I do not know if they will be available on the 29th. I will also say that Gamestop will be receiving way more PS3 systems than TRU will....

But seriously, I can't imagine they'll have that many. This is actually very bad news, as it's going to mean RIDICULOUS lines on Oct. 29 for people who are just interested in the Wii. They really should have staggered the preorders on different days.

You're right about the Wii but not about the PS3. Every TRU I've called sstate that they are NOT taking PS3 pre-orders at all. This is a national approach. System will release on 11/17 and people will need to sit outside for it -- now if it's true that they're letting employees buy them first, well -- then forget about TRU having any on 11/17.

Page 64 of BigBook....Preorder PS3-$50 deposit...check the BigBook thread a few threads down...You can call every TRU in the country and except for a select few of us nobody knows this info as of yet....We are being told to act dumb on the PS3....
Hey sren, I believe you -- it makes sense that TRU employees are being left in the dark; I would only expect upper mgmt. to know. Unfortunately, if you're right on number of units, well, then, it's pretty much a done deal that no TRU will have any to sell on launch day.

the first store probably didn't check there print outs today. the other one probably got around the same amount as my store did.
Also we KNOW how many we are getting unlike EB/gamestop, we aren't taking more pre-orders then what we will get on luanch day, we will take second shipment Preorders but we will tell that you will have to wait until mid december.

the first store probably didn't check there print outs today. the other one probably got around the same amount as my store did.I called a third store, who was also out of preorders (though he reassured me they should be pretty easy to find on launch). I don't get how they filled their preorder so fast, but I also didn't see there was a CAG thread on this already:

That's where I have mine at currently, but they don't know how many they're getting or when. Does anyone have any new information on this?

So, what time is everyone lining up? I got to EB for PS3 at 9:30 and was #3 in line. I fared much worse for the Wii pre-order line, but still got one. I have to imagine the lines will be longer for this since the info is coming out so much earlier, but it's going to be cold here !

Just to try to clairfy with a question:
Do TRU employees get first dibs to the Wii's and PS3's?

I wonder how many pre orders TRU is going to take for the Wii. I would hate to have to show up at 3-4 am just to get my pre order in.

Next weekend Nov 29th-there may be changes regarding the PS3 preorder...We will not know what changes until a conference call next Thursday..I sincerely hope they pull the preorder because there will not be enough to last more than a minute or two...As for the Wii-should be no problem getting a preorder for it...Also it looks like stores are opening @9am now instead of 8am.

Sorry about this, I'm still a little confused...
-The Wii preorder starts Sunday, October 22. The Playstation 3 PreOrder (if there is one) MIGHT start October 29?
-Toys R Us stores will open at 9am, even if they normally open at 11am on Sunday?

The Toys are us in my town said they will be doing pre orders the 29th but dont know how many units they have for sale yet. I live on the West Coast but i doubt its different for any other place. I plan on getting 4-6 of them and paying my nephews and friends to camp with me. Keep 1 and sell the rest.

I was at my Toys R Us tonight and the guy there said the 29th, but he, of course, didn't know how many they would have. He made it sound like there would be plenty though as opposed to the PS3s.

Where did I get the idea it was this weekend? LOL!
Okay, so NEXT weekend we have preorders for both the Wii AND Playstation 3, is that right?
And do the stores open early, or at the usual time (11am is normal on a Sunday for me)
Oops! I did it again.
10-21-2006, 02:21 AM
Consiering sren9 mentioned TRU is doing this pre-order for at least several days, I might wait 'til an hour or two after opening before I hit up my TRU, to miss having to wait behind the inevitable line people that insist on waiting out front.
Then again, hanging with some fellow Wii fans might not be a bad idea, just for the fun of it!

Dude, quit acting like it's exclusive information, the information is right there on the internal website. As far as allotments go, everything thrown out in this thread in terms of numbers is pure speculation. NO stores have received any information regarding the number of units they'll be receiving for either console. The amount each store receives will likely be dependent on the region and the amount of traffic your local store has.

I'm sure the news about the PS3 preorders is every where now. So expect to see people camping out next Saturday at TRU. Realistically, this could be the last chance to get a B&M preorder and not be forced into a bundle. I can imagine that the online preorders will all be bundles.

From what I understand from reading page 40 to now, they were originally going to allow you to pre order the small supply of ps3's. However if you refer to one of sren's previous posts he states that they are having a meeting in order
Next weekend Oct 29th-there may be changes regarding the PS3 preorder...We will not know what changes will be until a conference call next Thursday..I sincerely hope they pull the preorder because there will not be enough to last more than a minute or two...As for the Wii-should be no problem getting a preorder for it...Also it looks like stores are opening @9am now instead of 8am.
So right now the verdict is, there is a possiblility that the ps3 will not launch the same day as the wii. That is the reason they are conducting the meeting.
I hope they don't put this in the weekly ad next week, else my chances have gone waaay down.

FYI. A manager confirmed that they will be having a National meeting on Monday and a regional meeting on Tuesday.
One of the stores had just received the Big Book (and had not looked inside yet), the other store had not even received the Big Book yet.

Well, given how few PS3 consoles TRU will prob get, pre-ordering for it should best be cancelled and just keep it as a first come, first serve. As for the Wii, there should plenty of 'em
