Will you be able to use the classic controller to play Gamecube games on the WII?? Or do you have to use the Gamecube controllers to play Gamecube games?

Yeah that's something I want to know too.

I want to know this too. Hopefully, they will but I doubt it. It seems to me that Nintendo will make everyone buy GC controllers.

I wonder when they're going to get around to revealing the last few things we still don't know...

I thought they had said the Wii controller cannot be used for GC games, and I don't see why the classic controller would be any different. If you could use the classic controller, why not the normal controller/nunchuk?

That's one thing I haven't kept up with... what's the purpose of those "classic" controllers?

Well the classic controller actually has enough buttons and two sticks on it; the Wii remote+chuck doesn't have nearly enough buttons to work for GC or N64 and the remote could work for NES, but that's about it.

The problem with this is that Nintendo would have to continue to make the GC controllers, which I doubt they want to do. I'd expect the classic controller to work with GC titles. There's really no reason it should not. I wonder if you can save GC saves to the internal memory or SD card? It just seems silly for Nintendo to keep alive two separate accessory lines when they're effectively killing off the GC with the Wii's release.

Thats true, I hadn't thought of that before. And being able to save GC games on the Wii too would be awesome.

I wonder when they're going to get around to revealing the last few things we still don't know... My guess is that it's that the speaker in the Wiimote also works as a microphone and VOIP will be supported by the system, both in game and at the channel screen to talk to your friends.

Yeah, I know. My point is just that it seems there is something actually preventing it from being used (as opposed to the DK bongos, which can be used for any game you want to use them for - some are harder than others, but...they're mostly just hard), but that may be incorrect. They may mean that, like the bongos, the regular controller doesn't work for GC games in the sense that it would be difficult.
The more I think about it, the less sense my argument makes to me. So I guess I would go with the classic controller as being an option for GC games. After all, it isn't like Nintendo to not give you the opportunity to buy something new that does the same thing as what you already have.
My guess is that it's that the speaker in the Wiimote also works as a microphone and VOIP will be supported by the system, both in game and at the channel screen to talk to your friends. A speaker that works as a microphone would be impressive...

It's supposed to be used for playing virtual console games.

Yeah that's about as likely as the 3D projector. First of all the speaker couldn't be used that way (at least not well or at the same time it was playing something), and second of all it's just dumb, what are you gonna do, yell in the general direction of your hand while playing games? It's just a bad idea.
The best option for communication is just a headset. Nothing else would really work.

The fact that the Wii has GC memory card slots leads me to believe that you will have to continue to use GC memory cards for GC saves. It would be great if you could save your GC progess to the Wii's internal memory or SD cards, but I don't think it's going to work like that.

I'm thinking of something like this. (http://www.amazon.com/Zonet-VOIP-CONFERENCE-SPEAKER-ZSY5105/dp/B000BKY3P2) I have no idea how well speaker/microphone combos work since I've never used one, but it is possible. Why shouldn't it be used as a microphone? You wouldn't have to yell, you're hand isn't that far away, and it's best if a microphone isn't right next to your mouth.

A microphone on the Wiimote would be possible, but the speaker would not be acting as a microphone (which seemed to me to be what you said in your first post).
And as for whether or not it is best for the mic to be right next to one's mouth, it depends on the type of microphone. Dynamic mics are directional and have a very limited range (i.e. you should be very close to the mic and in front of it). Condenser mics are omni-directional and have very large range (more or less they pick up what you would expect to hear if you were in the same place as the microphone). Obviously, then, you would need a condenser since the wiimote is not close enough for a dynamic mic, but then you would get too much - every other noise in the room, really (not to mention things like button clicks, which you would probably get with either type of mic).

VoIP via a headset seems far more likely to me than using the Wiimote, especially with it swinging all over the place.
