I've finally decided to swap my gamecube for a wii but I'm wondering if I should keep my regular controllers and hock 'em for wavebirds now or just wait and see what rolls out in the future. Is Nintendo going to still make wavebirds or redesign them for the wii? Also do the receivers fit well with the wii because the back seems to be contoured to fit the bulge of the gamecube?

I'm also wondering if I'll be able to use my Wavebird on the Wii.

You definitely will if you would like to play GC titles on your Wii--there are 4 ports for GC controllers on top of the Wii, and Nintendo has stated that the wavebird receptor can plug into these ports.
I'm not positive, but I think that Miyamoto (maybe) said that the GC controller will still have some functionality in select Wii titles. I am far from certain about this, but I do know that many Wii adopters are curious if the GC controller will work with some Wii titles or with VC games.

I'm sure there's enough space to plug in the Wavebird receivers into the Gamecube controller ports on the Wii.
