i would think if you were returning one of the 2 games you payed full price for, unopened with a gift receipt, that they would have to at least give you store credit.
Wow, I never thought of that before. This might actually work if you wanna just get one game. With a gift receipt it would be harder for customer service to see the promo since they're are no prices. One would have to type in a code and see what price was payed for that item. You could simply return the first 2 games on the receipt it and then receive store credit for the 2. However, you are then stuck with the store credit, but you can use it to buy whatever you want in the store. Customer service may be suspicous of it at first, but if you think about it Christmas is just around the corner. In my area, people have already started holiday shopping and it's not that uncommon to see people buy 3+ games.

Man if you waited this long to get KH2, you might as wait longer. It is still $50 at TRU and the game is 7 months old. Games turn the $20 mark and become Greatest Hits 9 months after release.
P.S. God Hand got a 6, 5, and 8 from EGM.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111001
Damn, ok now I'm lost for 2 games, I'll wait for KH2 til christmas or Jan. Well HOPEFULLY I can sweet talk someone for a pre-order and pick up Final Fantasy XII or (I know it's a LONG SHOT) Smackdown vs Raw 2007. If not I'll just walk the isles til something jumps out at me or get Justice League.

I'd get Bully over God Hand. In Bully, there seems like there is a lot to do/explore and it looks like it has a classic yet humorous story. God Hand looks cool and fun at times, but I've read that the gameplay gets repetitive.
hmmm ... i'd like to grab grandia 3 -- anyone know if it's 29.99 at TRU?
Yes, it is.

But when they go to do the return, the CSR scans the barcode on the receipt and that will show onscreen the details of the purchase. The gift receipt hides the price from the recipient of the gift, but nobody else.

Of those two, Bully is definitely the way to go IMO. It will more than likely last a lot longer than God Hand.
Not to mention God Hand only costs $30, whereas Bully is $40. Might as well get the higher priced game free.
Besides, God Hand may be $20 in a few months anyway...

Thanks Jedi and Colossus, I spoke to a friend whille at digital lifethings today in NYC (was cool, not much to see but cool) and decided I would get Bully. So that still leaves me one game down from my $40 and over list and I'm getting Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Karaoke Rev 3 and Xenosaga on my $20-30 list. Anyone know how much PoP:2 Thrones going for now? Yeah I know all my cheapy games are old as hell but money's been tight.

The safest thing to do is just buy 3 360 games and don't open them. That way if they won't let you exchange you can just return them within 30 days. I realize that with this your not going to be able to play the game the second you get it but it will probably save you money in the long run.
We all know how much more fun games are when we don;t pay full price for them.
Guitar Hero today for $40. Score!
Planning on trying the following:
Splinter Cell : Double Agent
Rainbow Six : Vegas
Call of Duty 3
We'll see how it goes. Good luck everyone and practive your "My (insert friend or family meber here) already has this game and I'd like to exchange it" speech.
Basically. the answer is the exchange policy kis YMMV depending on the CSR and how good you are wtih people.
And no pre-orders, the games must be in stock or the 2 for 1 deal can't happen.

http://www.theimageplace.net/uploads/2341c456a3.pdf
The coupon was ripped from fw, it starts on 16th and ends on 21st... So its gonna be tough to use it...
But I would think if you bought before the coupon expires, then go back fo B2G1 just mention you used a coupon and you don't want to waste the coupon... You still want the 20% off... Doesn't hurt and might work.
I remember a few years ago at the B2G1 deals they gave $10 gc to purchases over $75, I wish they'd bring that back.

Clearly states that coupon value is forfeited if item is returned, which is what is needed to adjust for a sale. System most likely will not allow for the manual entry of an expired coupon.

You can, but I wouldn't try exchanging the free game. They can't deny you the right of exchanging something you actually paid for as long as you follow the normal requirements (ie: receipt, unopened, etc). So just get one game you really want and then get two games that you'll take back and have them ring those two up first.

If you really want 3 games that are different prices, why should that stop you? I mean a free $40 game that you really want is better than a free $60 game that you are lukewarm over.

Oh, I absolutely agree, but there are probably several folks out there who have a sizable list of games they might want and could best make use of this deal by planning based on price.
I think it was during the Spring iteration of this sale that someone came in here and told us how he had bought several sets of three, each with mixed price points. He felt sheepish when we pointed out he could have saved quite a bit more by organizing his purchases by price.

Technically they can require all three games to be returned, since one was free as part of a deal. At that point, they can refuse to honor the b2g1 deal, seeing as it has expired.
So now you have your money/credit back for the two games you piad for, which you can use to get two other games, but now you're out the freebie, therefore making it all a big waste of time.

Disgaea2, Valk Profile2, and Tales of the Abyss.
Contact, DQ: Rocket Slime, and Magical Starsign.
What I have left over for scraps:
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner
Baiten Kaitos Origins
Granted Contact anf Magical Starsign aren't out yet, the only game I saw there on my list was Valkyrie Profile 2. They did have a preorder slip for Starsign though. It sorta looked like they were renovating, probably getting ready for the new generation. I stopped into BestBuy to take advantage of the clubhouse game deal for 19.99 + tax and they were in the middle of moving games around, too. It's sad how little love (shelf space) Nintendo gets compared to Microsoft and Sony.
Does TRU usually have a decent game stock? What I saw was pathetic and I'm hoping it's only due to the renovations for the new generation.

It depends on a lot of different factors. The amount and kind of traffic through the store, what kind of promotions they've run recently or are coming up. Sometimes their stock can be incredibly picked over, other times they'll surprise you by having a Trauma Center or a Phoenix Wright. You just never know. I'm not sure how they handle the more obscure new releases either. In my experience, they're better than Best Buy and CC, but not as on top of things as GS/EB.

Splinter Cell will be out in time so you only need to return 2. In which case make sure Splinter Cell is the freebie, as that is the one they would be least likely to take back.

Sounds like a job for the magical Wal-Mart exchange program if you're feeling a bit dishonest and got your acting skills honed.
My picks:
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (360)
Phantasy Star Universe (360)

They've been putting a stop to that. You'll need a Wal*Mart receipt in order to do an exchange. But you might get a nice employee who'll let you do it, so it's defiantely YMMV.

Gift Reciepts FTW!
I'll be picking up three $60 360 games and getting gift reciepts so that I can exchange them for games in November.
A difference a gift receipt will not make. The CSR still has to scan the barcode on the receipt, which shows the details of the transaction, just like they were looking at the original. It's not like the prices/deal are hidden from the CSR just because you handed them a gift receipt.
And don't anyone think of me as being a killjoy or anything like that. I'm just trying to keep people from getting all hyped up only to be shot down. Because we all know what happens then. They come back and post on here that "TRU is full of a bunch of fucking asshats" or something like that, which may already be true for other reasons, notwithstanding.

Doubtful. I'm fairly certain there is a transaction # on your receipt, which is scanned into the system when you do a return. Trying to return the same itme twice on hte same "receipt" would most likely raise a red flag and could end up being alot more trouble for you than it is worth.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE follow this man's advice. I was one of the few people who got majorly screwed on trying to exchange games later for other games, and was flat out denied, and this was WITH gift receipt's since CAG's were so positive it would work flawlessly.
It dosen't.
I was able to return one game for something else, and when I did it a week later with a different game I was flat out denied and they gave me a huge hassle over it.... they eventually told me I need to return them all for a refund and not exchanges since the deal was only for games in a certain time period and I was taking advantage of the system by exchanging them for new releases.
It's highly YMMV and if it DOSEN'T work you are stuck with shitty games you don't want, like I was, stuck with two games I didn't care about at all because I thought it would be so easy to return them one at a time.

This is exactly what happened to me, word for word and a perfect description.

Seriously though I plan on getting 2 games that I really want and 1 game I wouldnt mind getting stuck with. I will try to swap that one for FIFA 07 (which comes out 2 days after promotion ends), but if no success then I still have a game which I would have got eventually. I definitely would not try to swap more than one of the three games...that would be pushing it.
And the gift receipt idea is not trying to hide the price from them, but more to convince them it was a gift to you, and therefore you cant return the other two games etc.
I think its clear on OP that this is confirmed. This is like every year event.
For the return game experience, I did it back in 04. I buoght Taiko Drum Master, Paper Mario, and LoZ: Four Sword. (I wanted D.Konga, but they dont have it, so I picked LoZ:4S as future trade in)
A week later, I went back to another store, I think it was a inexperience Mexican lady. I said I wanted to trade this for D.K. She probably didnt understand me so she just returned my $49.99 value.
This was a great deal for me so its like B1G1; then later I beat Paper Mario I sold the game fro $43. so I end up paying $~20 for Taiko Drum Master. (Havent played it in so long, so I turned out sucky and horrible. NOT worth the $59.99 back then)
So how long are the exchange day? I wanna see if I can trade in Wii games for this.

Yea, just to chime in on my own experience returning things. During last year's sale I went to the TRU next to my house. I bought Shadow of the Colossus ($40), PoP: Warrior Within ($20), and Phantom Dust ($20, ended up free). I figured I would keep Phantom Dust for when I got my XBOX a while later but soon changed my mind. I went to a different TRU two days later and was able to exchange PD and ended up getting We Love Katamari ($30), Monkey Ball 1 & 2 ($20), and Alien Hominid ($20, free).
I wasn't given any problems for doing this, and I even returned the free game. Now, this is apparently before the new ownership and was done while the sale was still occurring so, I'd say it's a YMMV.
Good luck to anyone trying it.

I think it's more like keeping scam artists grounded in realism. It's one thing to try to exchange a game of equal value for another, it's quite another to try to return two "paid for" games and keep the third "free" one.

Thought that I would just throw my 2 cents into the pot.
Talked to a TRU CSR today about Xmas coming up and that I always buy my games there. I said that I know that a new policy has been implemented and asked her to explain it to me.
Here is the low-down...
If I bought GRAW, Splinter Cell DA, and Phantasy Star Universe.
GRAW and DA would be full price. and PSU would be free.
She told me that I could exchange GRAW or DA for any other titles no problem as long as I have my receipt and that is good for 45 days as long as they are not opened.
The problem is the third game she said that since the new policy treats the 3 game now as 0.00, they cannot allow you to return it for a 59.99 game. They would be losing the 60 bucks according to their system.
So whatever your third game is make sure that you absolutely want to keep it no matter what cause you wont be able to return it.
However the good news is that the first two games can be exchanged for any title within 45 days of purchase.
SO those of you wanting to return to TRU in November can pick up GOW or COD3 no problem as long as you use one of the first two games to exchange it for.
Hope this helps clear up some confusion.
My list:
GRAW / Ultimate Alliance / Phantasy Star Universe (Free)
Dead Rising for Exchange / Godfather exchange for R6 Vegas / SCDA Free

I'm having trouble deciding if I should take advantage of this sale. Sure you save money, but Gears of War, Final Fantasy XII, and Zelda: TP are going to keep me busy for months. I could either:
a) spend $120 now and take advantage of B2G1 and the 3 games (average out to be $40 each) will sit on my shelf while I play GoW, FFXII, and Zelda: TP
b) save my money for now, play GoW, FFXII, and Zelda, and by the time I'm done, the 3 games I would have got from B2G1 will drop down to $40 each.

Echoing a question asked before:
Has anyone actually seen Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner or Tales of the Abyss on store shelves? I ask because both were available for pre-order on the website last week, but now seem to be gone...
For that matter, did anyone's TRU ever stock Shadow Hearts: From the New World by any chance? My local store still has the display boxes locked behind the counter, but I was told they never actually got copies of the game...
(If these games have been seen elsewhere, I may have to plan a trip to a bigger TRU next week...)

I apologize if this was already answered. Can I go today and buy three 360 games, and then go back on Sunday and get a refund for the difference even if the games are open? I dont want to actually return the games, just want to buy them today because I want to start playing them today. I know this works with alot of other stores like Circuit City, Best Buy, etc (its a common Black Friday practice), but Im unsure about TRU. Im hoping I can, otherwise I have to get shady which I dont want to do. If getting the difference back on Sunday wont work, I'll do this:
Go today and buy 3 360 games. Then in a seperate transaction, buy the same 3 360 games again. On Sunday, go to the store and return one set of games. Then rebuy those games with the coupon (this is to make sure the games are in stock for the sale), then use the other receipt to return the games again, getting back the complete $360 you originally spent, and only leaving down $120.
Any help is much appreciated, Im looking to head to TRU soon.

Hmmm...I'm confused. I thought either Children of Mana or Magical Starsign was coming out the week of the sale. Guess not. Oh well. There are still plenty of other quality DS games I want that I can plug into that third slot.
Also wondering if this will be online. Hard to predict what they'll do since they split from Amazon.
Magical Starsign comes out on the 23rd and since it's Nintendo published I can't image having issues finding it...
No clue, but the fact that Bully isn't on the site nor could they find it in their systems yesterday worries me a bit...

Holy God just wait until Sunday.

I didn't participate in the sale last year, but the year before, I returned a game and they gave me a refund for the full price of the game, though I heard they changed the policy so that you are only refunded the price you paid (ex: buy 3 $30 games, pay $60, return one, get $20 refund, not $30). I could be wrong though.

So if I buy 2 games and get the free one I can return the 2 get my $120 back and keep the free game. I'm only asking because Spliter Cell DA is the only game I'm interested in buying right now. It would be sweet to get it free.

No, it will most likely not work. I tried this 1 or 2 years ago and it didn't work them and I'm sure they've caught on by now.
However, what I did was exchange the game I didn't want at a later time for another game that wasn't released during the B2G1.

same here in tulsa, maybe it's national
TRUs are now going through phase changes. This usually happens every season, where the layout of the store changes, sections are moved around, etc.
My RZone is finally being done this week. Originally it was going to expand and include DVDs, which would've been a nightmare. I think we're just making room for PS3 and Wii. I also noticed that we received cardboard "shelves" and "dividers". My guess is that games will be arranged similar to how BB has them. Kinda like how a card catalog is organized, therefore not all of the games will have their own spot on a shelf..if that makes sense. Hopefully we get rid of the dummy game case system cuz during the holidays it's hard to maintain.

Sure, they'll take the games back within 90 days, but they sure won't honor the deal 90 days afterwards. You have 14 days to do a price adjust, and that's even if they will allow you to trade one or two games for other games that weren't released during the sale.

TRU no longer takes anything back without a receipt. Thats why they give a gift receipt on everything now and you don't have to request one. If you like RPGs, grab VP: Silmeria ($50) or Tales of Abyss ($40). The graphics and battle gameplay in VP is absolutely stunning & engaging, much better than FFXII (in my opinion). As for ToA, the popular opinion is "best in the series", but nothing overtly revolutionary.

Ah, great choices! Thanks!!

I don't know how much I should spend Sunday...
Okami
Bully
Disgaea 2 ($50?! Sheesh...)
Saint's Row
Dragon Quest Rocket Slime
Devil Summoner
VP2
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
I really want Bully, but it is $35 at Fry's anyways...
And getting Saint's Row, Bully, and Okami would mean $33 a game, not so great a price.
What a headache...

I was out scouting my TRU this morning for potential purchases on Sunday and I could not find Tales of the Abyss or Bully anywhere, which surprised me, especially TOA, as they had plenty of the other newly released games out. Has anyone else seen these at their local TRU?

Someone help me pick a third game!
I'm getting Bully and Okami but can't decide on #3...
Maybe I should just get whatever, and then try to return it for FFXII??
As far as $39.99 games are concerned, Lego Star Wars 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance are pretty solid choices.

No TRU is showing Bully in stock. The website doesn't have it and most stores are claiming TRU isn't carrying it due to the controversy. It could be true, but it's weird since GTA is there.

TRU no longer takes anything back without a receipt. Thats why they give a gift receipt on everything now and you don't have to request one. From December 26-January7 they are going to take anything back without a receipt due to Christmas returns, but it will be for the lowest price in the last 30 days.
Will they be giving money back or store credit? I'd imagine store credit if they're taking anything back without the receipt.

Yes, as long as I can remember, it's always been store credit for Christmas returns. Remember Geoffry money?

I was at my Toys R Us today and can confirm that they do carry Devil Summoner (a question many people including myself had asked several pages back) and Disgaea 2 in store. However they don't carry Valkyrie Profile 2 (at least not my store).
Also they told me they wouldn't be doing adjustments next week for people who were buying the games this week.

My store has Valkyrie Profile 2, so it must just vary by store.

Appreciate the heads up!
I apologize for repeating myself, but has anyone seen Tales of the Abyss on shelves yet? Still trying to guage if the trip to a bigger TRU would be worth it...

This one is fairly simple. Any game you purchase during the sale can only be exchanged for a title that has been released before the week is over. If you want to return one then you have to return them all...unless you are exchanging using the above rule...TRU has new owners and they are not as dumb as past ownership...You can forget about exchanging them for Wii or PS3 games...This is being covered at the GSA training this week as well as the MOD training earlier in the week...

So what if the game was scheduled to be released during the sale window, but it wasn't put out by Toys R Us until later? I am specifically asking about Touch Detective which is scheduled for release next week, but may not pop onto the shelves right away because of this sale.

I wasn't really looking for it but I looked through the PS2 section pretty closely and I didn't see ToA.

I mentioned a page or two back that I couldn't find ToA at my store, which surprised me as they had so many other newly released games except Bully (which I've heard most TRU, if not all, are not carrying).
how in the hell is a thread on a deal that hasn't started upto 500 posts and 25 pages. mods should have locked this thread before it started. No way I'm wading through 25 pages for information.

Trying these long shots across the board...
Would an Xbox Live card come up under this sale as working? Maybe in prior sells, the card come up flagged as a game?
Like I said...Long Shot...but hey, I'm just needing a card by the 26th and looking for a deal.
*EDIT* Can't SPEL

Thanks for your opinion. I can't tell you how much it means to us.
Anyhow, back to the topic at hand:
I'm not sure if I'll take part in this sale after all. I picked up SC: DA today at Gamestop when I got rid of some games. I'm thinking about just using the remaining credit towards Tiger since that's really the only other game I wanted out of this deal. I'll give it some more thought, but I may sit this year's sale out.

Yeah, I'm trying to determine whether I'll take part, too. The only games I want are Grandia 3, TR: Legend, and some other $29.99 game, but $60 for 3 games that probably will drop to $20 soon doesn't entice me too much ... I'd almost rather just wait and get them when they're each $15 with a GGC...
I've also got too many games in my backlog, so I'm struggling ... to spend or not to spend ... :-P
Well I do want Clubhouse Games for the DS, and I'm sure I can find 2 other games I want for the DS as well.
Ah yeah, Dragon Quest Heroes was another... so far so good!

Man, I was looking forward to this sale untill the FYE trade in deal. I was able to get all the 360 games i wanted (Tiger, Splinter cell, Saints Row) plus Bully and Scarface. It's a much better deal in the end. Go to BB get a couple copies of Ridge racer and NHL 2K6 use the GC coupon thats $60.00 , stop at your local EB and get College hoops and another cheap used title again around $30.00 and do the 2 for 1 Fye trade and get all 3 or around $90.00. thats alot better then $120.00 at Toys R us

Well, it looks like it won't matter if this works on preorders on their website. They removed just about every prereleased game.

Looks like online may be "select games only" as evidenced by this affilate program graphic:
http://www.toysrus.com/graphics/promo/TRU/tru_bogo_video_120x60.jpg (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=FKSJxY2VJAk&offerid=117710.10000186&type=4&subid=0)
Is there any important info that needs to be added to the OP?

I thought one of the earlier posts implied that the "select games" was online only, but in-store it wasn't limited. Is that correct OP or others?

Wait... Toys R Us isn't carrying Bully? If so I'll DEFINITELY pass on this, I was thinking of picking up Marvel Ult Alliance, Bully and some other game.

So do gift receipts work still. I use to get gift receipts for all of the games and return them the next month after the sale for credit. That way I can buy the later releases in November and December.

Not worth it, you'd probably forfeit your free game by doing so. Just suck it up and buy 3 games you want next week or don't buy any at all.

Ok, last year I kept the free game and got a gift receipt on the two games I paid for. I decided to keep on of those games and return the other game for a later release. I guess if they changed the system then I should just look for 2 more $40 games since I know I want Okami. Wish the TRU website allowed you to view all $40 games and not just for each console.
EDIT: Man, I couldn't find Okami on the TRU website. I wonder if they even carry it?
