Following up a post made yesterday about the Red Tag Glitch. I went by TRU today to pick up games versus the 2 for $30 PS2 GH sale also going on this week.

I bought:

Trapt - 20.98 - 4.20 Red Tag Clearance = $16.78
Soul Calibur III - 19.99 - 4.00 Red Tag Clearance (who knew?) = $15.99
Shadow of the Colossus - $19.99 - $19.99 B2G1 = FREE

Given this information with a previous post with a successful glitch of $29.99, $20.99 Red Tag, and a free $19.99, you can likely get a free game as high as your most expensive Red Tag. It'd be nice if you could get a free $xx.xx off of any two Red Tags, but that just wouldn't make sense. Are there even any Red Tags above $30? Could be a good way to score $20 or $30, though.

I was excited and surprised when I was expecting a $40+ ticket. =) Is there a list of Red Tag games to help other CAGs save a couple bucks?

Bestbuy given CRAP out of me when i pricematch with TRU today. Stupidly employees told me they only pricematch the games in the ad is show. I pointed 2-5 times "BUy 2 get 1 free all on videogames" then the cashier say Oh... so he call the supervisor & 2 leads over but they still telling me they only match the games in the pictures. I got VERY PISS OFF, and walk in to Movie section to pickup some horror DVD on sales this week. I RAN into the manager & handed him the ad " Do you Pricematch with TRU"? He say YES and let me know if anyone given you hard time. he's so nice given his name & Say sorry!!

I endup pickup Vykyrie Profiles 2, Rules of Rose and Disagea 2. :)

Excellent - is Phoenix Wright in stock at most TRUs?

Not at my location in Greenville, SC. When I visited Tuesday to pick up my games, they had just about everything I expected in stock. But I can't say I saw anything as rare as Phoenix Wright, although they surprisingly had Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow behind the glass shelving. I still want Contact, but from what I'm reading, sounds like I'll be striking out.




This deal seems awfully straight foward for there to be 1,000 posts on it. I guess that just means the promotion has been a huge sucess!

After the recent lameness with the Best Buy online DS special, I think a good, legitimate, working deal is a breath of fresh air.

I found it fun at first, but then it became frustatingly hard because I would lose a Grand Prix by like 1 point overall:bomb: . Also, the WiFi was also hard when you faced snakers. I much preferred Double Dash over MKDS. I may like NSMB more, because MKDS was only my third DS game, and with my first one being Nintendogs Best Friends, it got boring:drool: , especially since I beat SM64 rather quickly.

Anyways, I went to Toys R Us, and they DID have Clubhouse Games and MegaMan ZX, unlike the cashier said on the phone. So I had gotten:

According to the OP, games bought through this promotion can only be exchanged for games released prior to the end of the promotion, so, no, you can't exchange them later for games that haven't been released yet.

From what I understand this how the glitch works.

You have the CSR scan the Red Tagged game(s) you are purchasing first then you have them ring up the regularly priced game you are trying to get as your third game so that it is the free game (as long as the regularly priced game is less than what the original price of the Red Tagged game(s) you are purchasing with it).


Like this example that is shown by musicnoteless:

The glitch is really not that great. At most it saves you 20% on one game which is not red tagged, but even then it is HIGHLY specific to the games you are getting. Most people will not find or want two red tag games and a normal game that is a slightly lower price. Basically, don't try to get the glitch to work, unless those three particular games were actually the games you wanted.

I almost wish I could bring myself to return or sell some of this stuff.

I thought it was just my TRU! I wasn't sure if I wanted to get it anyway, since I'm still trying to figure out which version suits me the best.

Anyway, mine didn't have Bully, SMT: Devil Summoner, Contact, NSMB, Metroid Prime: Hunters or Mario Kart DS.

I ended up buying two sets:

$20 games - Me and My Katamari, Wipeout Pure, and Advance Wars DS
$40 games - Okami, Suikoden V, and Ace Combat X.

I'm probably gonna see a movie tomorrow night, and my TRU is right across the street from the theater, so I'll probably stop by tomorrow and see if they get in Bully, because I might trade Suikoden V or Ace Combat for it (I'm trying to figure out if Suikoden is getting harder to find, or is gonna get cheaper soon. Ace Combat will certainly get cheaper, but that's a hot game and it came out this week I think.)

And I might also look more at the DS games, since they did have Mario and Luigi 2 and Megaman ZX. I'm considering getting Animal Crossing or Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2, but I'm not 100% convinced I want those games. If they get more NSMB though, it's ON.

I was able to successfully exchange my 2nd copy of Saints Row yesterday for Tiger Woods. They told me that as long as the game wasn't the free game, it could be exchanged. Seems kind of silly since I didn't choose which one the cashier rang up for free...luckily I had two copies of the same game because one of my Saints Rows was the free game.

The ratio, unfortunately is about 75% sealed games to opened.

I WANT to play all/most of these games. I simply never have time.

The biggest problem is that many of these newer games take 80 hours or so. That would take me months to get through, and that's just one game.

Hell, I still haven't even played the Grand Theft Auto III that I have sealed.

You and I both, hell I got rid of over half of my collection so I would get enough money for the 360 plus some games.

Yeah -- I'm with you (50 PS2, 40 XBX, 44 GCN, 25 DC) -- not as many unopened games since I never planned to return any of them :-) and I love flipping through the manuals -- it's as close as I get sometimes to "playing" the game.

That's one of the reasons why I need to pick up an Action Replay for my systems -- only way I'll ever get through those RPGs ... <sigh> there's something ironic about that.

Anyways, I returned my Replay MAX for PS2 (on account of all the memory card issues -- kept the GCN one though since it comes with a nice mem card, though I'm told it works only on older GCNS, which mine is).

Used that money to pick up 3 ridiculously cheap games:

I checked last night (71 PS2, 56 GCN, 71 XBOX, 16 PSP, 58 DS) and I also have more sealed games than I do opened ones.

The ratio, unfortunately is about 75% sealed games to opened.

I WANT to play all/most of these games. I simply never have time.

The biggest problem is that many of these newer games take 80 hours or so. That would take me months to get through, and that's just one game.

Hell, I still haven't even played the Grand Theft Auto III that I have sealed.

My ToysRUs has just about everything still. The only title I haven't seen is Contact. I could still walk in and purchase 3 copies of Okami if I wanted, no problem. Maybe once I become a bit more established on this site I will start trading with its users. SoCal stores seem to always carry an overbundance of categories (not just ToysRUs).

Well you could always buy games priced the same as the ones you want and try to exchange them for them when your store does get them in stock. At the very least you can just return them for a full refund if they dont.

What I did today is buy Justice League and Mortal Kombat for PS2 and will exchange them for the xbox versions later. I made sure they could do this before I made the purchase and they said it would be fine.

So all in all I think it finally worked out but still a pain.

Was surprised to see Touch Detective there, although I was also hoping for Contact.

When they have an abundance of Touch Detective and no Contact, both equally niche, it's time for us to all give up. I was so close to getting what I wanted today though. BB had Contact, Rocket Slime and Dawn of Sorrow and the clerk asked about matching and he told me they would!... but only if the other store had them in stock! The glitch is really not that great. At most it saves you 20% on one game which is not red tagged, but even then it is HIGHLY specific to the games you are getting. Most people will not find or want two red tag games and a normal game that is a slightly lower price. Basically, don't try to get the glitch to work, unless those three particular games were actually the games you wanted.

Definitely true. But, 20% is still a nice percentage. It isn't the free for all that the green tag games were, although if the Red Tag Clearance ever gets higher. . .

I wanted all three games that I picked up, and if anyone else can take advantage of that, it makes a good deal better, and that's what we're all about. =)

I looked today at TRU and was disappointed in what I found. Was hoping to find Contact but no luck. They did have Magical Starsign but it was $35, even though it's $30 at Best Buy. And they were down to one copy of Clubhouse Games (I was going to pick one up for myself and a 2nd for a gift) so I decided to pass. Yeah sales like this are pretty crazy, i've picked up around 17 or so games this week (not all from the sale) I've lost track of some of my total numbers but I have aruond 170 DS games (there are about 10 in the US that I dont own) I have 69/69 360 games, around 450 xbox games, around 500 ps2 games, around 140 or so gcn games, around 110 psp games.

I was able to price match at Circuit City but they didn't have any of the PS2 games either. So I got Double Agent, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and another Double Agent for a friend. They charged me $40 for each game instead of giving me one for free. This basically means I can't return any of the games for something else =/.

I think I'll wait until Saturday to see if CC or TRU gets Devil summoner/ Tales of the Abyss in stock. If they don't, I'll just buy 3 $50 games at TRU and take my chances at exchanging. If not, I can just return for full money back.

Since my local TRU sold out of MUA (360), I went to BB to price match for 3 360 games (all $60). At first, they were reluctant, and then I told them that other BBs were allowing this. So they called TRU to make sure it was legit. To price match, they charged me 40/game (SP:DA, TWoods 07, and MUA). I asked them if I could use my 2 GGCs and when she scanned them, she got both of them to work. Wish I had 3.

Then I tried to get the 1600 pts (since i was buying 360 games). Unfortunately, the 5$ price didn't pop up on the register, so I didn't push it and told them I didn't want them. Wonder if I "reminded" them of their deal, I could have gotten 3 1600 pt cards for 15$ along w/ the 3 games. Oh well - may go back w/ my receipt and see if I can get the cards before the sale ends.

the 20$ off 100$ online is a better deal (vs. 3 GGCs for 15$ off), but it sounds like some recent games are not available. If you can get the pts at BB for 5$ w/ this deal, that would be even sweeter.

True, before christmas this poor guy was trying to buy games for his 8 year old niece and the guy helping him was giving him all these just released M rated games that were way questionable for a 8 year old girl. Finally. I managed to get SC: DA. Interestingly, I came out with a slightly better than 1.5x return on investment. When I went to exchange Steambot Chronicles, the CRM did a return for the full amount (49.98, as it wasn't the free one). At that point I essentially had a buy 1 get 1 free from one of my original batches of 3 (Disgaea2, VP2, Steambot...). But I had come all that way so I was going to get my Splinter Cell, damnit. Unfortunately, SC rang up at 59.99, but that's OK cause I grabbed MK:A and the new Tony Hawk DS for free. Could have done that more efficiently but there weren't any other games 50+ that i was interested in that aren't going to drop soon. Still, I still came out with 1.55x worth of games than I paid for :D I kinda got a buy 3 get 2 free. Anyway, if anyone still wants SC: DA near chicagoland, there are 3 more copies at the 75th St Downers Grove IL location next to Gamestop, just a shame it's 59.99 now.

Done this deal twice. First with some DS games as gifts to younger family and another time for some stuff for me. Both had to be done as PMs because the one TRU I went to was cleaned out of most of the new releases or anything remotely good. This also goes without saying that I was treated with the utmost rudeness and disrespect by one of the employees there. I'm standing there asking him to check and see if he has a certain game in stock and he just stands there with this blank fucking stare at me and does not respond. Does not help. Spoke to a manager and I hope he gets fired. For the amount of money I was about to drop, you'd think he'd act with a bit of courtesy. Fucking moron. This sale was a joke this year, I've been using it every year since 2001 and it was just impossible this time. I've never had a problem going into TRU and getting whatever I wanted, but between them making nothing available online and having nothing in the store it was pointless. It's no wonder they're closing stores left and right, I'm never going to bother with them again.

Well I think a large part of it is that it's a victim of timing this year. A lot of the stuff from the recent past is scarce because they've been doing clearance and aren't necessarily restocking these games when they're trying to make room for two new systems and the holiday games. Then by the other hand the good new stuff isn't available yet either because of release dates or a lack of hurry to get this weeks releases on the shelf. Would we all have enjoyed it more if they'd done it a couple weeks earlier or later? Sure, but it is what it is.

I'm just trying not to go back to TRU today and pick up another set of games, that's the last thing I need to do. Now I just need to keep convincing myself that Ultimate Alliance probably isn't that good (and not getting the characters the 360 gets is a horrible injustice) so I can't make a $40 set and that I probably won't find anything to finish a $20 set either. Yea that will probably wear down about 5 hours from now and I'll rush in there before close.

I didn't see the sign earlier in the week so I don't know if it's new but if you buy DDR Supernova ($40), Extreme 2 ($40), or Max 2 ($30) you get a free shitty Pelican home pad (regularly overpriced at $20). Buy 2 DDR games get two shitty home pads AND a free game for a total cost of ~$85 or ~$75 if one of your games is Max 2. Not too shabby if you ask me.

I got Taito greatest hits for 19.99,then Tetris worlds for PS2 for 11.XX Originally 14.95 but got the 20% TRU red sticker discount,the free game was digdug for the DS.(10.48) Spent about 35.XX .Got home and looked at the avg ratiengs for the games. Tetris Worlds got a bad rating. So I wanted to retun it. I brought my reciept and the Customer rep scanned the game and I got 20.xx back for it and I wasnt asked what about the free game. I guess thats a good thing or else they wouldhave to charge me for it or I would have to find something else to buy for the b2g1 promo. That's it. I know what you mean, but sometimes they genuinely are trying to offer you the card to help you. I used to always say NO THANKS but I traded in about $150 worth of games a month ago, and took the time to listen to the associate. Basically the subscription to Game Informer and the card costs $15, and by getting the card, it added an extra 10% to my $150 for an extra $15, which paid for the free year subscription.

If you bought at least $100 worth of goods (basically 2 360 games or 2 new PS2 games), you should have gone for it because the 10% pays for a year of gaming magazines along with the membership.

I went to a local Bestbuy the other day to PM this and was denied.

Today I went to another Bestbuy and scored Tales of Abyss, Bully, and Splinter Cell DA. I don't reallty want SCDA but I used it as a placeholder especially since I won't be going back to the Bestbuy which actually Pm'd it for ahwile.

Since SCDA was one of the games I actually paid for do you think the hardass local BB, will let me exchange SCDA for Marvel UA? Should I rip the reciept off after splinter cell? (If they ask me waht happened to the rest I'll just say "I didn't need the excess paper")

Picked up 5 Mario DDR's and Okami a few hours ago. I waited all week and the DDR's did not move... I think they are a good investment.
