Hmm...I have a $270 TRU gift card that I saved since April to use on the Wii. I may have to allocate ALL OF IT toward 360 and DS B2G1 as it is the best bang for the buck.

*Edit - Not giving my hopes up. It probably won't include PSP, Xbox 360, and DS. Not that lucky.

Well the few games I was hoping to take advantage of (FFIII, Castlevania PoR, Yggdra Union) won't be released until after the sale! I don't know if it'll be worth it this year. I can't really think of anything to take advantage of this with (ie, I don't want to buy a $60 game, a $50 game, and end up with a $30 game for free). I guess I could go for Lumines II, Every Extend Extra, and LocoRoco...

Maybe this is a sign telling me to stop buying games.:lol:

$40-valkyrie profile psp, okami, and Baten Kaitos Origins? (I would get Daxter but that is going greatest hits next year and I'll pick it up then)
$30ish- CONTACT, and then maybe Super Mario 64 DS and either Castlevania, Nintendogs, or Trauma Center
$20ish- I'll see what there, probably Mega Man Maverick Hunters and then see what else

The frustrating thing about the DS is there are like 3 titles that I am definitely getting this fall and only one of them is coming out before this (contact) so I have to get some other games. I can't think of any $50 games I want. I need a different $40 game from Baten Kaitos unless you think it won't go down to $2 at Kmart, I don't know how big of a run the game has.

The more I think about it, I should probably just hold off on buying some of these (like the DS games since I'm flooded with them).

Edit: wait, Every Extend Extra and Lumines II are coming out? I just checked EB and all I saw that was interesting coming out was http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=190346 (which I might get instead of one of the DS games since it's $30). If Every Extend Extra is coming out I might have to squeeze that in there. I think Penny-arcade wasn't too far off with their $1500 estimates for the holidays.

Bleh, after browsing TRU.com this sale is only going to be good for GH/PH/PC (guaranteed $20) games, or brand new $49.99/$59.99 games. Everything in between has crap prices that your better off buying elsewhere. For example on 360:

Gun $40 ($20 at Walmart)
King Kong $40 ($20 at GR)
Tomb Raider $40 ($30 at BB)
Far Cry $40 ($20 at GR)
PDZ $30 ($20 at GR)
Dead Rising $60 ($40 at BB next week)

There are some new release games that I want, but none of them fall in the same price range.

$60 - Splinter Cell: DA, Marvel: UA
$50 - Lego Star Wars 2 (360 Version) , VP2
$40 - Okami, Baten Kaitos: Origins

I'm up in the air about which version of PSU I want (360 or PC), so that's hard to figure. I'm waiting for reviews on Bully, since I like the preview videos Rockstar has put out (Although those always rock), but many gameplay previews have been pretty harsh.

I might take advantage of it for some DS and PSP games though, since I am interested in Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts, Mega Man ZX, Mario and Luigi 2, Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters, and New Super Mario Bros.

FFXII is coming out after the sale.

You may be able to buy it ahead of time if your really cool with the R-zone person and talk them into letting you buy it in full ahead of time along with 2 other games, then you just come in on the 31st to pick it up. Try offering to buy some batteries and a BPP. Also, check how long they have been at the store, the longer, the better the chance of it working.

I will be getting:
Bully
Justice League Heroes (if reviews are great)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (if reviews are great)
Final Fantasy XII (If I can pull described trick)
God Hand (IGN gave it a bad review, after hyping it in previews)
Mortal Kombat (maybe)
Scarface(maybe)

So mostly FFXII and Bully, looks like it's the last year for my PS2.

Have you played Pokemon Dungeon? The game is one of the best RPGs ever on a handheld system. It just doesn't have the GRAFX that all of the reviewers seem to want.

-Bully, Disgaea 2, something else that's equally good

Huh?... Your comment makes almost no sense... Their selection online isn't really affected by the fact that they left the Amazon superstore. You still had to pick a product from the TRU lists no matter what to get the sale prices. Heck if anything the new TRU site looks better to me so far. There aren't many old games but they only ever did $30,$40, or $50 games online before anyway. Besides it is a lot better than what I find in store 99% of the time.

Yeah they only run this once a year. And it is usually in October. They know a ton of games come out Nov/Dec thats why it runs at the end of october. At least there are still a bunch of games coming out the next couple weeks that I can use this for. Mainly Splinter Cell and PSU.

TRU's policy is that you get blacklisted if you return 3 items within 90 or 120 days, but I'm not sure about the exchanging policy. I spend so much money there that I don't understand why they would care.

Huh?... Your comment makes almost no sense... Their selection online isn't really affected by the fact that they left the Amazon superstore. You still had to pick a product from the TRU lists no matter what to get the sale prices. Heck if anything the new TRU site looks better to me so far. There aren't many old games but they only ever did $30,$40, or $50 games online before anyway. Besides it is a lot better than what I find in store 99% of the time.

My comment makes perfect sense. Their online selection of games is NO WAY NEAR what it was when they were with Amazon. Try finding Valkyrie Profile 2 or DQH: Rocket Slime on their site or Magna Carta or Wild Arms 4 or Baten Kaitos Origins. I could go on and on about the games they don't have all day but I got better things to do.

How does TRU put the B2G1 deal in the receipt? Mark the cheapest game as free or redistrbute the discount among all 3 games?

In case I have buyers remorse on a game, I should try to make it NOT ring up as the free game so that I can return/exchange it.

To all those saying they're getting COntact, Touch Detective, or SMT: Devil Summoner what is the likliehood of any TRU having Atlus games?

I've never had any luck finding Atlus games beyond the shelves of EB/GS. I have Contact pre-ordered but if I could do TD and SMT:DS with this deal I'd cancel my order and just get them at TRU.

TRU selection is about the same as BB or CC but in many cases better. My local TRU still has multiple copies of Castlevania: DoS and had many copies of Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright back a few months when they were ultra-rare. I say TRU is better because most people go to CC or BB to pick up games, leaving some TRU a goldmine at times.

Sometimes its 20 dollar games and the third one can be a 50 dollar game for free. You have to ring them up in this order : 19.99, 19.99, 49.99 game, because the computer takes the last one off as the free.

A few years back you could glitch the computer into thinking a green tag game was full price. So you could get two 80% off 49.99 green tag games and get a free 50 dollar game.

The glitch they're all talking about was the famous green tag glitch. If you had a green tagged item that was 50 bucks originally, you could use it as one of the first two games. Last year I had the cashier ring up Ace Combat 5 first. Then I got two 50 dollar games next. The computer rang up the Buy 2, Get 1 free portion of the deal first and then gave me the green tag discount for Ace Combat 5. So my grand total for three "50 dollar games" was $75 pre-tax. At the time, the green tag discount was only 50% off.

As for returns. I returned a 50 dollar fodder game I got for a brand new copy of Star Wars Battlefront II. I thought I was going to get busted at first but then the customer service lady came back with a new copy and said that it took so long because they just opened the box. I walked out of TRU with the first copy of Battlefront for what came out to be around 25 bucks with the green tag glitch.

As for TRU holding back new releases last year, that was a lame speculation being told by LAGs...Lazy Ass Gamers, who would go there a few days after release and see RE4 and SoTC gone already, only to assume they're hiding them in the back. On a sidenote, it never hurts to ask if they have any extra copies in the back, sometimes they might not restock the spots as quickly as they should.
I don't understand what my store is doing then. I always have receipts when I return something. I returned 2 Donkey Kongas and two other games a couple of months ago and the manager looked at the computer and he told me it wouldn't allow me to return anything else for either 90 or 120 days (don't remember). I couldn't even return the fourth game. I was surprised, but when I went in there a week later to buy something it seemed to recognize my name because the girl asked what I did to get blacklisted. Again, I had a receipt (not a gift receipt) and they marked out the items returned with a pen. Maybe it's the credit card that gets blacklisted. I guess I could try another one or pay with cash...hmm...

That was more towards returning with a receipt. TRU does not allow returns or exchanges or anything without a receipt or gift receipt now.

Its going to be tough deciding on the 3rd game.

Rainbow Six seems too much like GRAW. Just slight improvements, indoor setting, and some other stuff.

Call of Duty 3 will be alot better then Call of Duty 2 but I am just plain old sick of WWII games.

F.E.A.R. just doesn't look appealing to me.

And the only game I would get in a heart beat- Fifa 07, BTW the demo is amazing, might only have 7 leagues which is garbage.

People seem to be confusing what glitch we were all talking about. The Green Tag glitch is no longer possible. It might be possible with the Red Tags but that would be YMMV.

The receipt shows the third game as free. You should have no problem exchanging a game of equal price.

I don't think anyone has been able to return 2 games and still keep the free one. I suppose it is possible if you get an inexperienced customer service rep. That would be an extreme YMMV though. This would be a case of expecting to get shot down so don't get your hopes up and then come back here and bitch that you couldn't get a free $50 game from TRU.

Gift receipt or not, it doesn't matter. They don't only check what's on the receipt, they scan the barcode on the receipt and the purchase info comes up onscreen.

Doing what you are planning might only work on someone who knows very little, but then again, the new register system probably has safeguards in place, requiring all three games to be scanned as returned before a refund can be issued (holy run-on sentence). I know the new system is much pickier as far as coupons go.

This is the ONLY time I'm explaining the old green tag glitch. The glitch was this:

The way the old system was set up during the green tag event, it would register the original price of a green tag item first, using that amount as the basis for the B2G1 deal.

You could get two Green Tag games, and a third full-price game of equal or lesser value than the original price of the two Green Tag games. The catch was, if the prices were equal on all three, the Green Tag titles needed to be scanned first, and the full-price game third. This way, the system sees the two Green Tag games first, and marks the original price game as free, and then it cut xx% off of the Green Tag titles.

If the full-price game was less, even by .01-.05, it wouldn't matter to the order of scanning, as the system would see it as being the less expensive, making it free.

3RD (49.95)

GT1 (24.99) (49.98 @ 50% off)

I know alot of people got burned because they didn't check the last digit in price, since the regular price game had to be less than or equal to the two GT games.

This also worked for the B1G1 Board Game sale too. Both deals I cleaned up on. :D

But all of this is a moot point, since I highly doubt it will work with the Red Tags of this year. I feel that the Green Tag Glitch was one of the reasons that the Green Tag sale was discontinued, in addition to it being a unorganized mess. If the red tag glitch were to work, your selection of decent games for free will be really limited, since most red tags are marked at about $20 or less.

In conclusion, any glitch, would limit your free title to an equal or lesser price of the clearance (red tag) games. Scanning three items, the most expensive scanning last, will not give you that one for free, as the system checks prices first, and then goes in order scanned if all prices are equal.

FYI:

- One can return/exchange a videogame within 45 days of the original purchase date.

- A reciept is required for all returns/exchanges.

- However with a gift receipt, one will receive store credit if an item is returned.

- Games sold with accessories (ex. DDR w/ mat, DK w/ bongos, GH) do NOT apply

- Technically, preorders could apply. On the back of a reserve ticket, there are 2 upcs. One is the actual upc of the game for the full MSRP price. The other is a $5 coupon used to give back the buyers initial payment for the preorder. Usually, cashiers will not allow for the buyer to fully pay for a preordered game. This is mainly to cover the store because some customers forget to bring back their preorder receipts and tickets when they pick up their game. I imagine you could sweet talk the cashier and promise to bring back the receipt proving your purchase.

- Green tagged games used to ring up at normal price first and then get discounted later during a transaction, which allowed for last year's glitch. Red tagged games I believe automatically ring up at its discounted price, so the glich would not happen (I'll check on this).

- The free game will be the cheepest of the three and the last one scanned on the receipt

I'm not entirely sure this will work with B2G1. I tried returning a Power Ranger zord bought during a B2G1 last night with a gift receipt. The woman at customer service said "The person that gave this to you didn't pay anything for it." She asked if I wanted to exchange it, but when I asked for store credit, the manager said "I can't give you something that wasn't paid for."

So, not sure if that would apply to the other 2 items purchased, or if the one I was trying to return just happened to be the free one, and they wouldn't take it. But that, unfortunately, was my experience as of about 8 last night.

With the gift receipt, 2 games will be at full price, but one will come up $0. Usually the $0 one they'll only let you exchange. Every year there is talk of them just dividing the totals, so each $50 game would be $33.33, but they still haven't done that. Also, at my store, if I used the 20% friends and family and then did an even exchange the week after, it wouldn't work. I would have bought 3 $50 games for $150 - 20% - 10% = $108. When the manager returns them, he'd give me $108 back and when he rerang them, it would ring each game back up at $50 = $150 minus the free game + 10% discount = $90, so I'd only get $18 back and I'd lose the 20% coupon anyway.

i have a question. I have $60 in credit at both best buy and gamestop. Would i be able to buy a game from both with credit unopened, return it to walmart as "unwanted gifts" for cash, and then do the tru deal? Has anyone done anything like that before?

Wal-mart will only give store credit for video games, so you'd get store credit, but they are getting stricter on that policy as some won't let you return it without a receipt. Also, get ready to be flamed as most CAGs are against the buy something somewhere else and return it to WM idea.

Thanks for answering. and i know the idea isnt exactly honest, i just figured if i was getting splinter cell at bestbuy with my gc and fifa at gamestop with my trade credit, wouldnt it be nice if i could have got the buy 2 get 1 free.

You might be able to find an ad and price match at Best Buy but that is super YMMV as Best Buy doesn't price match "special offers". You'd have to get a dumb CSM along with an ad that pictures the games you want to get.

And flipping games is considered illegal under what I believe are fraud laws.

Yes employee discounts work with this promo. It has in the last 3 years I've worked at TRU.
Only limitation is that you cannot use it for videogame hardware (PS2, DS, etc)

This shouldn't be the case if you even exchange games with same prices or the same equivalent amount. When the customer service associate re-purchases the new games, he/she should adjust the preices to the previous ones that have the 20% discount, then you should be able to scan your employee discount giving you another 10% off. Luckily at my store, there are a bunch of newbie guest service people. And since I've been there for 3 years now and pretty much run the RZone even though I'm not World Leader, I just walk them through the transaction and they don't ask questions. I try not to have a manager do the return, unless they're super cool with me. Which most of them are, but you don't want to seem like your ripping off the store. Just being smart and bending the rules where you can.

Also my advice is to have the game that you will most likely want/open/play as your free game because customer service doesn't like to deal with math and it takes them a while figure out what to do unless they're really experienced with this promo. Most likely they'll have to call up a manager and verify with them if it's okay and yada yada...I'm just saying if you plan on taking advantage of this deal, make it easy on them, the whole process for you will go smoothly, and you'll end up with all the games you want irregaurdless if they are out/released during the week of the promotion.

According to a long-standing member over on IGN who has reported on the ToysRus sale for years, after the promo period is up, you will only be able to return/exchange games for 66% of their value.

I will repeat this again. I took the free game back last year and got a brand new game that was the same price. It was a 2 weeks after the promo ended and I didn't catch any flak at all from the CSR. You can believe all the rampant rumors you want but I wouldn't worry that much.

w00t I was waiting for this sale. I have oen question though that I believe hasen't been anwsered, do preorders work for this deal? I'm planning on getting Devil Summoner, and Final Fantasy 12 and something else. Since ff12 comes out on the 31st or something I was wondering if this deal works with preorders and online.

I'm pretty sure the same goes for this as all the other questions - YMMV. Everyone seems to have a different story. Personally, I wasn't able to order preorders with this deal for the last two years, but I've heard of others who could!

Yeah I figured as much. My theory is that even if I cant get any of the 3 stores near me to let me swap one week later, then at least I'm safe with a game (ultimate alliance) that I would have probably bought later anyway.

I still can't make up my mind for a 3rd game. I'm getting Marvel, Kingdom Hearts 2 (yeah I'm I know late, but I've been broke) but can't decide between Bully or God Hand as my last game. I want something that won't be a "one sitting" game, something that'll last. Any sugestions?
Man if you waited this long to get KH2, you might as wait longer. It is still $50 at TRU and the game is 7 months old. Games turn the $20 mark and become Greatest Hits 9 months after release.

P.S. God Hand got a 6, 5, and 8 from EGM.
