Hmm .. that's a good question. It may not be available for in store pick ups due to this line in the fine print :
Points will post to your account approximately 30 days from date of shipment
EDIT: The more I look at this the more I think you cant do in store pick up but I cant say for sure either way

What's the cheapest thing you order on BB.com? The RZ rewards will help during Black Friday.

Thanks for the fine print. I'm guessing that in-store is a no go. It's still worth it, if you plan on buying something. Shipping's not terrible. :)

I would say that you would be able to do in-store and get the points. In almost every other case, you can get an online deal and do in-store pickup. The 30 days thing is more to protect from people buying something for the points and then returning it, and this happens with in-store purchases as well.

Yeah, it takes a while to get points anyways. I actually got this in the NORMAL mail. Along with a few other RZ coupons. 500 points = $10 now. So, nice deal. I'm saving my RZ coupons for HD-DVD 360 player (I have $55 right now)

WHAT!?! Wow, Best Buy just keeps getting worse and worse.
$150 for $5 off was pathetic, $250 is just a joke. That's what, 2%?
Geez, no sales anymore, they randomly price stuff higher than MSRP, they had that scam DS sale, and now they even make their silly points system worse than it was? LAME!

It's free now. You probably got a $10.00 reward certificate a while ago as a refund of your membership.
Yeah it's free. There's also a combined RZ/credit card that gets bonus points. Just the RZ membership gets about 2% back, and the RZ credit card gets about 4% (excluding promotional rewards), plus there's something about non-Best Buy purchases earning reward points, don't remember specifics on that part, though.

I had no idea it was free, well, that's less annoying.
They're still overpricing EVERYTHING though. From cables to TVs to whatever. They're almost always more expensive than Circuit City ever since that new president took over (they used to be cheaper, I thought).

Would you be happier if they just got rid of it then? IT'S FREE people....FREE money. Not many stores do this. Just don't use it if you don't like it. I don't really get it.
I also got a coupon for DOUBLE RZ points in the mail...along with this deal.

CC offers 5% back if you use their credit card. Just got a $120 gift certificate in the mail 2 days ago. Pretty sweet with the $15 off $100 coupon they send you with your bill (almost) every month.
2-3 months ago they sent me a $10 worth of bonus point coupon for purchasing from select categories. I bought a pack of blank mini-DV tapes (blank video tapes was among the select categories) with the coupon but so far I never see the bonus points posted to my account.
Last year they had a promotion in the ad to enroll in the RZ and get $10 bonus points (making the memebership free). Well, I never got the $10 bonus points neither. I had to fight them for 3 months before they gave me the points as a fucking goodwill.
YMMV, with this promotion.
Btw, do you think they will give you the 500 points if your total order is less than $10? ;)

No, I just don't like how now I have to spend damn near twice as much to earn all the coupons I was getting. I earned near $200 in coupons, and that's after buying an HDTV and a 360. Now I have to spend twice the amount to make $200 in coupons. That sucks. Enjoy trying to make it to $250 for a $5 certificate. Personally I think that shit sucks ass.

Not everyone got a refund of their $10. I was one of those that got the "Buy one year, get one free." I don't remember when it was that I last paid for it. So it may be that if you hadn't paid in the previous X months, you didn't get a refund.
Also, it could be the following (from my latest RZ letter):
Total certificates earned: $415

Yeah, exactly. Best Buy dosen't run sales like they used to, and TONS of stuff is marked up across the store. From Nintendo's Wi-Fi connector to iPod accessories, everything's at least a few bucks more than MSRP.
I for one buy way less from them now. I used to pick up every GBA game I wanted on sale from Best Buy, and I hardly go there anymore now.

Same here. Besides they have changed their PM policy to 14 days from the 30 days they used to have. Also, it seems they don't carry as many popular game titles as they used to. Just a lot of copies of the same thing.

I agree. When we first got a Best Buy in town, they had really good prices & sales. Now I can find better deals at Target on movies and games. I think it's part of their business plan.

I just picked up Big Brain Academy for the DS last Sunday and I made it a point to ask the cashier when I checked out about the BB price match policy and she told me it's 14 days now....same as TRU. Either they haven't changed the signs in the store yet or she was talking out of her ass....take your pick.

Can anyone confirm if this will work for store pickup. I'd order Dead Rising to get the bonus points (Seeing it's on sale for $40) but I don't want to pay shipping or else it kind of eliminates the point.

I bought Brain Age on sale for $14.99, and paid with a gift card. I did in store pickup too, and I think that will work - something I read in the confirmation email makes me think so. With the coming $10 certificate, this was like getting Brain Age for $5 plus tax.

My guess would be that it's valid on in-store pickup and it's just a quirk of the language. BB probably doesn't care so much about how they get it to you, they want you to use BB.com. It would be MUCH more prominent -- it doesn't even say it has to be shipped. That fine print of "30 days from shipment" probably just means "you won't see your points til 30 days after we ship/pick it up/etc so you can't return your order".
Here are some CDs with free shipping, and an extra $5 off if you use a Mastercard...

Can anyone confirm if this will work for store pickup. I'd order Dead Rising to get the bonus points (Seeing it's on sale for $40) but I don't want to pay shipping or else it kind of eliminates the point.
I will do it for store pickup though.
"Points will post to your account approximately 30 days from date of shipment."
That is what has me worried.
For those that have been asking if this works on an in-store pickup, I can verify that it does.
On Sunday, I put in an order for Dead Rising and used about $16 in BBB. Totals was just over $25. I went to the store a bit later to pick it up (After I received the confirmation email), where I was told by the store that they couldn't find my order and that they had no way to look it up (I had forgotten my print out of the confirmation at home). They finaly figured it out that they could look up my last name and found my order. Of course, no one had brought it up, but when they called media, the guy there knew what game it was. (No biggie, I just find it funny that, once again, an instore pickup took twice as long as if I just went and picked it up myself and went to the cashier.)
I didn't even see this deal (I never received anything in the mail), but I just checked my RZ points:
10/15/2006BB.COM - STORES Reward Zone Points 23.99
10/15/2006BB.COM - STORES Bonus - 500 pts BestBuy.com order 500.00
So, it's pending. Not a bad surprise to get, in the end, an extra $10 off...

Hrrm, my Nintendogs order is now backordered. I hope that's a fluke since today is release day. I wonder how they'll handle THAT? I should probably place a backup order towards the end of the week if it hasn't shipped, to be safe, especially since instore pickup looks to work.

Man -- I want those 500 points but there's nothing worth getting ... do I order a CD for $10 just to get $10 -- which isn't even cash? Economically-speaking (and I'm an Econ. grad), that makes no rational sense ... I'd get a $20 game but then I can't use the GGC -- so that doesn't make sense, either.
Ah well.

This was a fucking comedy of errors tonight with trying to get an order for batteries.
1) The first order I placed, which was for a 4-pack of Energizer batteries:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=150115&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat28800050005&id=1051384046217
Order came back as "Item not at store". :-s I called 888-BESTBUY and told them to cancel it.
2) Made a second order for an 8-pack of Duracell batteries:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=127687&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat28800050005&id=1051384045676
I called the BB on the way home from work, as it had been a couple of hours since the order was placed. They didn't know if the order had been pulled yet, and when they looked into it a bit more, they found out that the SKU # for the batteries I ordered wasn't the same SKU as in-store. :-s Which didn't make any sense, since they're the same SKU's. Ended up coming into the store and spoke with the inventory manager.
3) The inventory/ops manager looked into it a bit more and found out that the guy who was supposed to be pulling the items for the in-store pick-up items couldn't find the batteries and marked it as "not in stock-at store" (also known as a no-pick). Even though they had 216 of them in-stock, and the guy didn't see them on one shelf-peg and missed the shelf peg two pegs over. :wall::wall::wall:
4) The inventory manager couldn't explain why the guy couldn't find the item and basically did everything short of ripping the guy a new one. Called him lazy, sloppy, you name it. :-s Once the order went to a no-pick, it closed out of the system for in-store pickup, and here's the kicker:
Once an item is reported as a no-pick, you can't make an in-store pick-up order for it, regardless of the inventory in-store. The only way this can get cleared up is for someone at the store to fix that and report the inventory in-stock.
This didn't make the inventory manager happy at all.
5) Quickest solution was to make another in-store pick-up order from inside the store. After going to two in-store PC's that didn't have printers, we found one that did have a printer. Made the in-store pickup order for a different set of batteries, an 8-pack of Energizer batteries:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=2543108&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat28800050005&id=1051384047324
The inventory manager had the batteries in-hand, and once the order was placed, we started to wait out the order.
6) As we waited for the order to get processed to the store, the inventory manager decided to offer me something for my trouble, which was a $20 GC. Of course, being a CAG, I made sure he put the GC on a GGC. :D Plus, they made sure that the money was on there.
7) The in-store pickup order could take up to 45 minutes to show up at the store, so the inventory manager would keep an eye on it and mark the item as ready for pickup. I decided to go home and call it a night.
So, I have to pick up the batteries tomorrow, as well as call BB to cancel the second order and make sure that the 500 points are attached to the third order.
In summary, I should get the $10 RZ cert in 30 days, I have a $20 GGC, all from the order of a pack of batteries. The inventory manager was quite sheepish by the time it was all done, and I think that his inventory runner is going to have quite an earful by the time the night's through. Plus, he was happy it was happening now and not in the thick of the holiday season. :D
All this work for a $10 RZ cert. :D

The reason timing sucks, is that I wanted to buy the Wii on launch day. Like Shrike, I had an interesting time with this promotion. I wanted to purchase Darwinia for the PC. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7879334&st=darwinia&type=product&id=1142303273007 It dropped in price to $9.99 a while back, and it just looks like a cute little game. The website says it is sold out for shipping, but in-store pickup is still available. Two stores in my area have it available for in-store pickup, but there is no add to cart button!
So I call Best Buy and ask to speak with the online order section of customer service. They answer pretty quickly and I explain the situation that I want to order it online for in-store pickup but there is no add to cart button. It's apparently a known limitation of their system that if it is sold out for shipping, you can't order it for in-store pickup. To me this seems like a bad setup, so I recommend to the lady on the phone that they fix it. She says it's a known problem, so I should just go to the store to get it. I tell her that I want to take advantage of the promo for Reward Zone online orders, and she says she'll transfer me to the Reward Zone section of customer support to find out what they can do.
I get put on hold for 20 minutes, and finally I get a guy on the phone. (BTW - based on my experience tonight, the online phone customer service department with a heavy accent is Reward Zone.) I explain that I want to place an online order for instore pickup, and ask if I can get the 500 Bonus Points, and he says of course. I then explain the situation that the online system won't allow me to do an instore pickup since there is a limitation of their ordering system. He says buy it in the store. I ask how to get the 500 points, and he says well, that's online only. I ask what happens when their system doesn't allow it. He says ask customer relations. He can't forward me, I have to hang up and call back.
So after 30 minutes on the phone, I hang up and call the same number as before, asking to speak to customer relations. After about 15 minutes, the lady on the phone understands my situation, understands it's their system, has involved her boss, and says there isn't any way to fix it. Since I can't order online, I can't get the points. But they offer instead to mail me a gift card for the amount the certificate would be for ($10) and just tell me to go grab the game I want in the store.
I'm not sure that sitting on the phone with them for 45 minutes was worth it, especially when their hold music is way too loud. If this promotion is intending to get people using their website, it seems to have backfired in my case, since the resolution was to just not use it.

Anyhow, I checked myrewardzone.com (I know the points won't show up yet, but I wanted to make sure I could log in), which I never do, and found out that I already have $25 in certs headed my way (nothing to do with this deal, I bought a Laptop a little while ago, and the whole reward zone thing slipped my mind). Edit: Scooped by 2 minutes, although, technically, I identified the single in my earlier post. And, technically, it is 99 cents, not .99 cent. I am just trying to see how many times I can edit this before it shows "Edited" at the bottom. It showed up after the fourth edit.

Are most people doing in-store pickup or just paying for shipping?
I don't remember if there's a way to sort items by ascending price in a particular category, such as games or movies. I'd probably order Resident Evil 4 PS2 if I could get it for $14.99 (using a GGC), but people said those don't work.
Another problem is that every time I've tried to use BestBuy.com at night this week, it has been shut down for maintenance. In the morning before work I usually don't have time to get online, and I get home late. I seriously don't know any other site that goes down so often for so long. For the last couple hours BestBuy.com has said "online ordering is temporarily unavailable... come back in a few minutes".
I'm hoping people could post some suggestions of other good cheap stuff to buy (besides batteries or CDs), such as some PS2 or PC games for under $15. Maybe I should try to find a DVD movie. I have no idea what to buy, and I don't think I'll have much time to search their inventory. Suggestions would be great. Thanks.

The part about how this does not work in combination with other coupons or offers make me think if you do the MC or even apply McD's bucks, this isn't going to work.

Worked for at least one person, so I'm hopeful:
I ordered the Primus CD in the ad this week for $7.99 and also used the $5.00 MasterCard coupon for a total of $3.XX with tax. I had it shipped because it was free shipping and I think I ordered on Monday or Sunday. The points for the CD AND the Bonus points just showed up in my reward zone account today. So if you used the Mastercard coupon you will still get the points. :)

Still.. Need to Buy Something.
Gonna go with Dead Rising. After the points and the pricegrabber rebate it's effectively 25.
Brain Age DS and Brain Academy DS are on sale for $14.99 each with free shipping.
I'm debating which one to order now, since it will be like $5 after the the bonus points, and I'll be getting a DS Lite this Christmas. Decision. Decision. Any thought?

Grabbed Club House Games with this deal since it was on sale, and used $5 in BBB on top of it. Not bad.

I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I bought Dead Rising (on sale) with about $16 in best buy bucks and did a store pickup. (I didn't even know about this 500 points deal.)
Points are currently pending on my account, so BBB seem to be okay with this.

Definately Big Brain Academy. I have both and I don't even touch Brain Age anymore. So far, I'm the only one within my group of ds friends that can get an A+.

Ordered Big Brain Academy for $14.95 with free shipping. Added $10 in Best Buy Bucks, so ended up costing me $5.35 including tax. Hopefully I will get the bonus even though I only signed up for the RewardZone today.

I'm amazed that some are applying that many BB bucks -- I thought the rule was you can only apply up to $3 per CD/DVD (which I believe includes games, at least it did last year when I picked up Chaos Theory). I guess it works if you won a $5 or $10 reward off McD's, but otherwise you're not supposed to be able to apply more than $3.
Lucky dogs.
Taken from the official rules:
Limit of $3 in Best Buy Bucks may be used toward the purchase of any single CD or DVD or box set (limit does not apply to video games or computer software).
Anyway, I just ordered Brain Academy with $5 in BB Bucks, making it $9.99 shipped. The 500 bonus points effectively makes it free (although it's only good towards future purchase).

I ordered a DVD. I didn't feel right about buying a game since I couldn't use the GGC coupon.

For those that used the mastercard offer, I ordered Sunday and they still haven't posted. I called about it and they said it's probably because the order isn't completely fulfilled (the stupid coupon is backordered even though it will never ship). Has anyone had this problem? I tried ordering another CD just to see if they fixed the problem of the coupon being treated as a real item, but it still tacks it on as a backordered-item. So I'm afraid I wouldn' t get the points there either.

Yeah, mine hasn't showed up either and I did the same thing as you. I have no idea why that coupon is showing up as backordered. Although I have done a couple in stores purchases this week as well and those haven't showed up as pending yet either. My pending activity hasn't been updated since 10/10 so I'm still hopeful this goes through.
I ordered Brain Academy late last night and it shipped this morning (well, it's been packed and waiting for pickup by carrier on Monday). Now, that 500 bonus points better come automatically this time.

I gave it a shot for in store pickup with the World of Warcraft trial disk for $1.99.
Worst case, I don't get the points and then just return the disks.
Thanks for the info OP.

My purchase showed up under pending transactions but it doesn't show the 500 point bonus... Has everyone else's bonus showed up at the same time as the points for the purchase?
EDIT - I called Best Buy and the rep put me on hold and then came back and said he would forward the info to the promotions person and the points should show up in 10 business days... I just have to wait and see now.

I called Best Buy and spoke to a nice man in India. First of all, the Reward Zone web site is apparently not compatible with Safari. This is a new thing, since it used to be compatible. I used Firefox and was able to log in without a problem.
As for my purchase, he had some trouble finding it but eventually did and said that I would get the 500 points and that it would appear online at some point in the next 30 days.

Same here, on both counts.
I'll wait and see what happens as well.

I called today since the points didn't post to my account nor are they pending. I was told to call back once they post and they'll add the points in, and gave me a trace number to refer 30 days from the order date.

Bah, I called today and the points still aren't pending or anywhere in my account. :bomb:
And apparently BestBuy.com's Reward Zone Department doesn't handle point coupons/promotions. I was referred to speak to their operator who transferred me to an unmanned phone where I could hear other conversations from reps but no one could talk to me. :cold:
I'll try again tomorrow...coincidentally, the same rep I spoke to about 15 days ago told me she couldn't help me. Figures.

I called a month ago. Didn't work.
Two weeks ago, I sent an email from their "Contact Us" page. I got the auto-response, but that was it.
Last week, I sent another email. I mentioned that the first email didn't get a response. This time, I got a human response which said that bonus points would be posted 30 days after shipment or pick-up.
I responded to the email, with dates, showing that it had been more than 30 days and that I got the regular points for the purchases, but not the 500 bonus points.
I got another response from the same human, saying he would have to forward it to someone else and to check back in 10-15 days. That was 12/1.
Today, I looked and I have 500 more points. Yay!
So, if you didn't get your points, I'd recommend emailing them through the Reward Zone website's "Contact Us" link. Keep it short and polite, and include the dates you made the order, and when it was shipped or picked up.
