"Japan will see 18 Wii games released by the end of 2006, along with 60 total Virtual Console titles. Beginning in Spring 2007, Nintendo will apparently begin the "Wii Compact Software" line of games which will allow players to download certain Wii titles to their console rather than purchasing a disc. Pricing and storage details, as well as what software will be made available, were not provided. "

Am I ready to let go of physical media? Hmm....

The XBLA does the same thing. I will probably never buy a game ever if companies ever did this with real $50.00 games.

That's what I was wondering if they meant. Not small games, but actual releases.

That's what I was wondering if they meant. Not small games, but actual releases.Chances are it will be small games. Whether those are games that might have been released on disc in another situation is unsure. But with only 512MB of onboard memory on the Wii, they can't really have you downloading full games, unless you can download directly to an SD card.

Geometry Wars: Yes
Super Mario Galaxy: No

I'm almost certain this pertains simply to smaller, independent releases.

I just took this to mean XBLA-equivelant original games that wouldn't really fit under the Virtual Console umbrella.

As has been said, this is just their version of XBLA.

Hopefully just original or revamped games of lower caliber

I think at one point Nintendo mentioned that the Virtual Console could become home for NEW games but probably something more like Castle Crashers or Alein Hominid not Mario Galaxy. That mindset has worked well for the DS where you get a mix of 3D and 2D games. It would be sweet if we saw say a new 2D Zelda or Starfox 2. Who knows....the options are really limitless let's just hope independent developers and 3rd parties embrace it. The 360 has the right idea it just seems like they need more games than what's there now. Nintendo has the good fortune of having a sizeable back catalog to get it started.

This is what I hope to see, as well. I'd love to see new collections of Mario levels based on the different series. Such as a Super Mario World: Lost Levels type deal. If the price were right, I think these could be big hits. A revamped sequel to Starfox 64. That kind of stuff wouldn't really compete with new releases directly, but would have enough appeal to draw lots of sales.

Yeah exactly if I can't resell or rent I'm not having any system that can only download games.

I'm not on board any console that doesn't use a physical medium. There is no resale value, you can't lend them out/borrow, can't rent, little to no chance of seeing a sale on games or clearance deal, no manual or disc.

Far too many negatives for my tastes.
