View Full Version : Would you like a better stylus?

Well, of course you would! Now, of course, Japan has all kinds of awesomely cool (and some strangly perverted) stylus products for the DS. But we tend to get crap.

For the past few weeks, I've been playing using 1/2 of a two-pack of stylii that I picked up from Circuit City. The Stylus is made by BD and A, Inc (the ones who make all the officially lisenced cases and such for GameBoy/DS and GCN.). They're pretty awesome, in terms of quality (as is most everything made by BDA and lisenced by Nintendo). They're about the size, shape and weight of a "clicky" ink pen and they hold up pretty well.

And Circuit City has 'em on their website for $5 ($8.50 if you have to have 'em shipped).

Well worth picking up, IMHO. You can all thank me later.

I've seen those pen stylii... they're chunky as hell. I'm doing just fine with the DS Lite stylus which is a huge improvement over the original one.

UncleBob

They're chunky because they're the size of a pen. ;)

But they were like super fat chunky pens, if I'm thinking of the same ones.

Too big for my liking since I have smaller hands. Thanks though.

Does anyone have any opinion on the Battle Stylus from PDAPanache? ( http://www.pdapanache.com/products.asp?PID=NDSLT )
Back when I was going to get a normal DS, I would've picked this up no questions asked. But with the DSLite having a supposedly better stylus, I'm wondering if it is still worth it.
Opinions?

I'm just fine using my Hori extending stylus... which fits perfectly in my DS.

If you want something the sized like a pen, you can actually use the back end of a pen (NOT the end with the writing tip, that'd be stupid) if you have a screen protector on the touch screen. Works great and it's pretty easy to find a pen anywhere.

Well, close-ish. (look under my name!)

I've wanted a Hori stylus for awhile, but I've never seen 'em in stores and thus have never had the impulse for an impulse purchase. I saw these at CC about two weeks ago and decided to grab 'em.

Now you *could* use the end of a pen, but I'm mildly-OCD when it comes to my DS and only use official accessories on it... and the pen/stylus fits perfectly in my (also official) DS case... so, for me, at least, size doesn't matter. ;)

I know this isn't for everyone, but, heck my wife *loved* it (Brain Age Freak), so I figured there had to be some others out there who'd be interested.

I think they are great. I bought one for my old DS when it was first available, and now one for my DS Lite. I highly recommend them as they don't put tiny scratches on the screen.

They are great and I highly recommend picking one up. PDAPanache sent us a bunch of them over here at Dual Screen Radio (http://www.dualscreenradio.com) and we plan on giving them away during an upcoming contest at some point.

We obviously kept a couple for ourselves too. 8-)

No thanks, I'm perfectly happy with my DS Lite stylus. The size and fit is perfect (love the thickness compared to the original) and I like how you just insert it into the DS and it's part of the system :).

EDIT: I may get the PDA Panache ones though, looks awesome.

I use my nicely weighted metal Pen/Mechanical Pencil/Stylus that I got from Nintendo a few years ago. Works great as all three.

Here's somthing like it at Office Depot for $5.59

For those who have the extendable Hori stylus...

What's it like compared to a regular pen? Does it grip the same?

Is the top part flimsy (thinner plastic) when fully extended?

Does it stay extended without falling back?

Overall quality?

There's the pen sized Hori Comfort Touch stylus for DSL at play-asia that I was thinking about, but don't know how it compares to the extendable kind, etc. since I don't actually have a DS yet.

Thanks.

The problem I have with stylus intensive games is that my other hand gets tired from holding up the DS by one end all the time.

I would like to see some kind of device that slips over my thumb, with a little plastic nub on it, on the underside of my thumb, so I can hold the ds in both hands and at the same time slide my thumb on the touch screen, or tap the touchscreen, etc.

Might be the wrist strap for the Phat that did exactly that? It's still available directly from Nintendo. http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1&currency=USD&ignoreCrumbs=N&crumb1=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527C%2527%252C%2B%2527CategoryDisplay%2527 %252C%252762205%2527%252C%2B%2527N%2527%2529%253B% 2522%253EDS%253C%252FA%253E&crumb1Ignore=&crumb2=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527X%2527%252C%2B%2527ChooseView%2527%252C %2527%2527%252C%2B%2527%2527%2529%253B%2522%253ENi ntendo%2BDS%253C%252FA%253E&crumb2Ignore=&crumb3=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527C%2527%252C%2B%2527CategoryDisplay%2527 %252C%252758694%2527%252C%2B%2527N%2527%2529%253B% 2522%253EParts%2B%2526%2BAccessories%253C%252FA%25 3E&crumb3Ignore=&translateFrom=%C8%C9%C7&translateTo=EEC&usrSearchText=&searchText=&selSrchType=&page=&view=&productId=83648&categoryId=58694&lastAction=ProductDisplay&orderTotal=null

Also forgot (sorry) where I read about one that was some sort of "claw" that fit over the finger tip. Didn't get good reviews IIRC. I'll update if I find it again.

eta: apologies for the long link. not sure how to make that apperar shorter.

Haha... is this sarcasm? Well, if not, there's the Nintendo DS strap that came with the old DS and has exactly what you're looking for.

No sarcasm here. I never owned a 'phatty' DS so I had no idea that this type of device existed. I guess it makes sense cos Im sure the old DS was even more of a pain to hold up by one end.

Thanks for pointing this out to me! :D

*edit* hmmm, it seems that the 'nub' on the wrist strap only works for sliding. It doesnt appear that you can tap the touchscreen using it. So its still not exactly what I would like, but I appreciate the effort. Now I gotta go search for that 'claw' thingy Hibiwa mentioned and see if thats any better.

Playing Elite Beat Agents last night was the first time I felt like the stylus for the DS Lite wasn't quite good enough. It felt like it should be a little bit longer, hadn't had that problem with any other touch screen games I had played but this one just seemed like a little bit longer stylus would work better.

Found it! It's at Amazon. Bad review still applies, but may work for you.

Exactly. I like the DS Lite stylus except it's too short for my banana hands.

I've had my eye on these. A bit pricy though. They are going on my wish list.

The best stylus I ever used was a sweet one I won from Nintendo around the DS launch. It was a small silver pen that had the Nintendo logo on the side, and when you turned it one way a pen tip came out, and if ou turned it the other a stylus tip. Very fancy, and absolutely the most perfect fit for my hands.

Unfortunately, I broke the tip a few months ago playing Ouendan. :(

Come to think of it...anyone know of any stores I can go to and find small plastic stylus tips to buy? Lots of people have similar pen/stylus combos for PDAs and whatnot, they have to sell tip replacements, right?
