Dammit. Such a good deal. Don't think I can take advantage of it though. Need the help of my uncle to set this up.

But why is the $19.99 one a pre-order while the one that's in-stock (http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3402503) is still $39.99? Are these finally about to drop in price or something?

It's not actually a pre-order.. its just a poor webpage. I already ordered mine, its a great deal.

it is the same thing as you would see at a retail store, but it comes in a plain white box and may or may not come with instructions, no matter what the discription says.....it will come with the bba and the cd to get started though.....

being a white box item is the only reason i stayed away from this one, since i am a collector and need complete boxed items.....if i were not a collector and wanted to get online with my ps2, then this would be a great deal

If I remember correctly, the packaging was a bitch to open and got destroyed anyway :P

Yah... with clamshell anything, what box materials do you expect to keep? All that was in it was the BBA, the CD, and like a manual.

with packaging like that, i use a sharp razor blade and slice close to the packaging on two sides and pull the items out....there is almost no damage to the packaging at all when im done with it and you might almost think that i didnt even open it

CheapyD:

Why isn't this on the front page? Especially since a lot more people might want to pick one up with HDloader just released. Just make sure to mention its a white box item.

I ordered a network adapter & HDloader, & I'm gonna use an old 40GB HD. It may not be "cheap", but $50 isn't to much to get all my PS2 games to load 2-4x faster. Not having to change disks is an extra benefit.

EDIT: Just to clarify, outpost.com does NOT sell HDloader. You have to order it from other sites for $30.

load times are 2-4 times faster? wtf is a HDloader and why is this the first I am hearing of it?

Its an unofficial program that allows you to copy your PS2 games to a harddrive (either the official one or any other HD that fits on the network adapter). It speeds up load times & keeps you from having to switch disks. IGN did a preview of it.

My Broadband adapter shipped yesterday.

Don't really have any games worthplaying with it, and the tunneling software for Mac has not been released yet, so TimeSplitters 2 is out of the question. I wonder if I can tunnel via Virtual PC? I guess I am waiting for Burnout 3 to be released at this point.

Mine just came into the office. Won't know if it works till later tonight, if I can stay awake after I put the kids to bed.

Yes, it is a white box. I imagine it is either a returned item or a refurb. There are some blemishes on the adapter itself, and some paint is rubbed off of the screws where it was obviously attached to a PS2. No warranty documentation is included. A disc and instructions are included, but not shrink wrapped.

they've also updated the item. it's now listed as clearly being OEM and the price has jumped to 29.99. I canceled my back ordered one and just bought one off ebay for the original price.

My local Fry's store put this on sale this week ($20), so I had to pick it up. The shipping almost killed the deal online for me, plus it was backordered.

I'll have to agree with donssword on the item. I believe the item is a refurb, although they are claiming OEM. I went to the PC networking section, and they had items in similar white boxes, but these were labeled reburb, so that's what makes me believe these are too.

Mine has two small stains on the front, but works. Well I guess I can't be too critical, it was half the price of a brand new one, and cheaper than what I've seen on eBay.

BTW, it works just fine. I had to download the installattion manual from the Web site.

I'm happy with my purchase.

I bought one yesterday, just so you know these are refurbished because mine was scratched up and the part that connects to the PS2 was bent. Be forewarned if you want a new one then get a new one.

^^^

And just to offer a little hope to anyone who did order one, mine came white boxed, but is in perfect condition, not a scratch in sight.

Mine came & it has some small discoloration, but I don't really care about that. I plugged in a 30GB IBM hard drive just fine. I won't be able to test it out until my hdloader arrives today or tomorrow.

My network adapter came with an install disk AND instructions. I guess YMMV.

Shipping was a bit expensive, but things arrived relatively quickly. I don't appreciate the fact that the network adapter, although appearing as a new item, arrived somewhat banged up. The sony sticker seemed to be nicked up some, and I being a stickler for anal things...I'm a little pissed about it.

Send it back and to go to a B&M and pick up a new one.

Nothing new ever comes so cheap, esp if it is a Sony first party product, u had to suspect that going in.

I do feel for you though, I am pretty picky about my games, but considering how cheap it was, and the fact that you won't even see the item attached to the back of your PS2, I think we all got a pretty good deal.
