I feel like an ass for starting two within the same day, but here goes...

I've been constantly debating if I should get a laptop or a desktop PC. My laptop choice would be a Compal HEL-80. 256mb nVidia GeForce Go 7600, 2GB RAM, 1.3 megapixel built in webcam, 1??? x 1050 screen, 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, etc etc. My PC would be built by me, so I could do whatever I wanted.

Pro for Laptop:
- Take it where I want
- Nice power and portability
- Do a bunch of cool stuff with it

Pro for Desktop:
- Upgrade it for years to come
- Put in as much stuff as I want
- Do a bunch of cool stuff with it

I won't list the cons for either, because I don't want to. I'm a very light gamer. I play Battlefield 1942/Vietnam every couple of weeks, and every couple of months I switch that with Star Wars Battlefront II, and I play that every so often.

The thing I'm asking is, should I get a laptop which has portability, or should I get a desktop which has power? Considering DirectX 10 and Vista are coming out soon, and these are mainly desktop attractions....

Opinions?

do you have a real use for a laptop?
if not, go the desktop route. they're cheaper, more upgradeable, and you get more options.

if you get a laptop and you're not a big gamer, why get a 7600?
the problem with laptops is the battery power. my friend (in all his brilliance) got a 17 in wide screen laptop from dell with a 7800 in it. It's like 7 pounds and has a battery life of ~2 fucking hours.
Its a huge waste.

Shit... that just opened up my eyes. Desktop it is. When I go to college I might buy a small-scale tablet PC, but until then... thanks!

(I nominate this thread for the fastest decision made: only one reply was needed.)

It all depends on your use. I have both. My desktop is an E6400 and my laptop contains a core 2 duo. Both suit my needs.
