Gotcha - thanks!
Looks like the roster only holds 8 people though.
-HM
If you guys are still around I'm on now - don't see any one. I probably need to add Tybee. I'll do that and get back on...
OK, did it and am back on.
So, apparently the friend's list is very limited - it is just that first page you see. I had to delete someone to add you in Tybee. Don't know who it was as it was "????????????".
Now I see THREE people online - holy fuck!
Edit - OK, got H-man, now getting Lan, and I see Steven on there...
Final Edit - looks like I'm getting Steven now. So I've added about 5 people today and haven't visited the island yet. I've been there once when I added the first person a few days ago. It should be pretty busy now!

Got H-Man. io or sporo, if you guys get on I can add you.
EDIT: Gotcha both.
So is there any reason to connect to the same person more than once? Once you contact someone, should you clear them from your roster or no?
Here's the new list:
io
5197-7279-0346
AK85
1031-6138-8361
Z-Saber
3694 4943 2561

Justin

Botticus

If you guys would provide your "Contact" names that would be helpful in figuring out who we have and who we don't. Botticus and I both used our CAG names (and H-man I suppose), but some of the rest of you are pretty random (rancor, Steven, etc).
So, apparently the only two slots I have left and have numbers in them are for Z-Saber and Justin (jfunkdpg). Whenever you guys want to do the contact thing let me know. I'd be very interested to see what happens when the roster is full.
Tybee - I don't know about deleting, I wonder if the characters would disappear from the island? But then maybe you could get MORE stat boosts by adding more people... I dunno... I guess someone is going to have to try it. But I want to get a full roster first to see if there is any bonus for that.
So do you really see people's secrets? The first guy I added all I saw was his "wish" from the wishing well. I didn't see his secret or his food. Or is the wishing well a replacement for the wish. My wish was something stupid about cats (I was on the spot when I started the game and couldn't think of anything better ), and my wish (that I added when I visited Wifi island the first time) was about Mars. So let me know what you see, if anything.

Apparently, you still love cats. =oP
I dont remember being asked a wish in the beginning of the game. I was asked for a secret though, and I revealed my heroic alter ego.
Apparantly, you still love cats. =oP

The wish is at the wishing well on WiFi island, so you don't do that until you first contact someone. I wonder when and where that shows up. Damn, my wish would be that I picked a different secret . Oh well, cats are on my mind these days (got a critically ill one that takes up tons of my time).
My question, still, is where do you see other people's secrets? Is it on the little signs by the wishing well? I guess I thought that was the guys wish and not a secret (since it was "to be admired", which doesn't sound like a secret but a wish).

I'm gone the next few days, but I'd like to try and connect with a few people next week.

 I guess mine could have been worse.
OK, so I visited everyone on Wi-Fi island.
Botticus was first - in the first room with the bed and bath. I got the intelligence boost just like he did. He misses Mayfield and likes pizza.
Botticus was wearing some kind of spiky Viking helmet.
Then I went around to the upper right and downstairs and H-Man was standing at the bottom of the stairs. He also likes pizza and is "leet". I got boxing gloves from him, interesting... He can't find a place to live and wants make "Castle H-Man". He was wearing a purple number with a matching hat :D.
Next I saw Rancor, the emperor of Phoenix in one of the other furnished room. He gave me Tuna Sushi. Said something about Olives. He has long red hair.
Then I went to the far upper left, at the end of that very long vertical corridor and saw a PURPLE RABBIT that was Lan from Gunstar9, who likes mango. he then attacked me and killed me (like 123 HP each hit). Sent me back to the fucking ship!
OK, then I went back in and found another furnished room with what appeared to be a baby in a highchair that was Steven. Something about "pho". He gave me an Agility boost. On second thought (after I pushed him out from behind the table) it seems he is sitting in one of the robot missile tank thingies. Or a baby in a high chair with tank treads .
Ok, back to the Lan-Rabbit. He is really pissed that I "look down on him for being less than human". This is hilarious. Looks like he is going to attack again. One minor glitch - he called my character Terry, which is not what I named him (all the others call him by the name I gave him which is Milo).
Dammit! Killed me again, in two hits before I could even select the screen for a potion. I'll have to work on this one...

Going to go around and visit everyone's avatars sometime today. Was up WAY too late last night doing this wi-fi stuff...

pete - no, you do not have to be anywhere as far as I know.
I was able to beat the Lan-rabbit. All I got for it was a stupid rose, which you can farm off the bubble slime things (along with the other flowers). Then I talked to him again and he wanted to fight again.
RF - I finished Aegis and was also one statue piece short. Maybe the last one is in the 10,000 pyramid? Actually, you get a lot of money in that pyramid, especially if you beat on the golden bats - they often drop gold, which you can sell for 200. Plus I noticed if I Power Strike creatures they often either drop an item (like the gold) or a big coin, which is over 100. I have 6500 or so - so I might just go back there and open up that pyramid, though I sailed off to the next place before I stopped tonight (this morning?).
I was also able to figure out what glove guy wants - boxing gloves - I got them from the WiFi connect, haven't seen them yet in the game. But he just disappeared with them and said he was going to his next fight or something - didn't give me anything either
Now I have a few more mysteries - the flying red bird on the top of the pyramid (go there with Fly Boy outfit on?), the person that wants to open a shop, the 10,000 pyramid, the girls who collect things (gave all the flowers to the one, nothing happened), and there's a few other unsolved things too. It is these little touches that make the game that much better IMO.

i dont have a way to hook into the net yet (might pick up on those DS things that hooks into the USB port )
right now im not playing anything besides hot shot golf PSP mostly trying to save my Handheld games off till i go to the dentist. so i have something to play while im lying on the couch recoviing. i probally going to have to get at least 2 to 4 teeth pulled very soon. one tooth has a crack in it (had a cavity around 10 years ) and few others ones are starting to bug me.
i hate the dentist and that is why i havent went in almost 20 years. trying to hold off going till after the hoildays so i can get the wii (i dont think i feel like standing in line missing 4 teeth waiting for the wii or any of the games)

Good thing I've got the 'n' on the end. ;) I usually use my real name for first person characters in video games. I'm boring that way. Kept it as Terry, too, for the sake of consistency.
I think it goes back to the original Legend of Zelda when you could rename Link. I thought that was so wrong.

You want a tip on how to get 10,000 REALLY easy without grinding? That Sushi you got from your Wifi visit? Take it to the mayoe of the Caldoxa ruins. He says he'll give you a l"little reward". After that, check how much money you have.
Enjoy!
I haven't gotten the Sushi, cuz of the no WiFis(maybe I can cook it or something), and I also haven't had a chance to go through the rest of the Aegis pyramid. I'll do it tonight, and I'll check ou that bird too.
HEre's a question; where the hell is the Official Strategy guide for this game? I'm hboping that (if they're writing one), they're trying to make it relatively entertaining (like the Earthbound guide). Holy shit, that'd be sweet.

Just finished Habara. Man, is that a good area. You all will understand why it rocks when you get there.
Also, I've been trying to woo the Japanese girl in the store in Habara to stay with me on my boat, but no luck. My karma is rediculously low (-50) and she says she loves me (by giving videogames) , but still doesnt leave for the boat. Do I just keep pumping games into her?

Now that you mention it, I do remember someone babbling about sushi to me earlier in the game - must have been him. But I guess that makes sense - otherwise the sushi is a pretty stupid reward (you can eat it but it doesn't give you much in terms of health, etc).
The red bird is down a secret passageway near one of the save points pretty deep in. The final boss in there is pretty bizarre. I'm not sure how I won but I did it the second time (after making some potions which I didn't have the first time through).

Man, you guys are gonna be way beyond me pretty soon. Haven't had much time or energy to devote to it lately, so I pretty much made a short incursion into Aegis (got the archeologist to his spot in the pyramid), and wandered around for a while. No clue where you guys are getting all this stuff about statues and whatnot.

I don't know about any of that - I think you are ahead of the rest of us. Is this girl just like the other 2 that I saw - the one that wants flowers and the one that wants bugs? I gave the flower one at least 1 of every flower (and 2-3 of some) and nothing happened except the heart that appeared over her head got bigger. I haven't found all the bugs yet for the other girl and I've never seen any of the items you are giving to that 3rd one :D.
Botticus - you'll find out soon enough, though it doesn't seem to be a critical thing as I was missing one piece of the statue and have moved on to the next area.

The other person has to have your code entered AND be on wifi at the same time. I'll enter your code (I'll have to boot someone else who hasn't contacted me yet) and get on wifi in a minute.
I'm on now with your code entered - just connect to the Wifi connection (make sure you aren't doing the "wireless" connection which is just local wireless). I don't see anyone there now. I'll leave it on for a while though. To be more specific - choose "Contact", then your save file, then "F1 - Wi-Fi Connect", then you should see a list of your friends - if no one is on it is all "----------------" which is what I see now ;).

I must be really terrible at finding secret passages or something cause i've searched this stupid pyramid top to bottom 4 times now and i can find any sign of this red birds you guys speak of. I found a read lizard like thing that fights me in one of the side corridors but nothing even vaguely resembling a bird.

There is a passage that leads south (ie, down) from one of the "save" rooms. I think it is the second to last save room before the boss. It's kind of an off-the-beaten path save room though, so you need to find that first. There's a room with a few of the mummy caskets that fight you and a hole or water in the middle. On the right side is a path down that is hard to see - that leads to the save. Then the path to the overlook with the bird is out the bottom of that room. I am going to play in a bit and see what the bonus is.
OK, I put quite a bit of time into Contact tonight, and the more I play the more I like this game. As Lan_Zero says, the Habara section is great - no challenging boss but the atmosphere and humor are great. I don't know where he found all the video games, I was only able to find "Jumpman".
You get to fight household appliances and play in a couple of retro arcade games - very nicely done
So far I've found 3 girls that are looking to collect things - and there seems to be 5 of each thing. The girl in Caldoaxa wants flowers, the one in the forest at Fort Eagle wants bugs, and the one in Habara wants video games. There is also a set of 5 precious stones, so I'm figuring there might be one who wants those?? Lan says he got the one in Habara to join him on the ship. I've given the one in Caldoaxa many of each flower and I get nothing - the heart breaks every time I see her again and maybe that means I have to start over. It could be that you need to give all 5 during the same visit. Did you do that Lan? Or then again, those other 2 girls could be different than the one in Habara. I'd like to get them all on board :D.
I did the 10,000 coin pyramid. It isn't really all that great of a reward:
It has the last statue piece in it - when you bring this back to the archaeologist you get the Royal Sword, which isn't all that special
I want to emphasize what RF said - YOU MUST CLICK ON THE RED BIRD in the Aegis pyramid. This is for a very important thing, though I'm sure it is not necessary for beating the game:
He gives you a map to an island where the Shadow Thief lives - he wants to train you. I'm stuck on the very first task he gave - to find some clove-like spice in Caldoaxa. I went there and looked everywhere, found nothing (it is not the normal spice you can buy there).
Edit - it is on the shelves where you save the spice guy early on. I just never went back there because at the time the bugs were tough. I just had to push the guy out of the way to get past him (or I could have killed him I suppose).
I also finally found the Fishing outfit, and have been trying to catch stuff. It took me 20 minutes to train myself OFF of the Animal Crossing fishing method. In AC you have to click as SOON as the float moves. In this game you have to wait for it to go underwater, and it will try to trick you (by going half way, moving around, etc). Then you have to tap or push A like mad until a little bar fills up. Depending on the fish this is easier or harder. All I've caught so far is one killifish, a bunch of carp, one catfish, and several precious stones (??). There are clearly certain fish I'm not close to catching though.
And you can fish in the bathtubs on WiFi island. Now I don't know if this is exclusive to there or not, but I did catch a thing called "Map Piece 3" there which says it is part of a treasure map. For all I know this is just a random fishing item, but maybe it only shows up in the bathtubs on Wi-Fi island. I also caught the catfish in the tub .
OK, since there is no FAQ for this game I waded into the Gamefaqs message boards <shudder>.
Here's what I found about the girlfriends:
Good news - you CAN get all 4 to live with you on the boat (and according to the gamefaqers it gets slightly kinky too). The 4th is the girl with the car, who apparently shows up back at Le Chef Beach - she's the one who wants the precious stones. In addition to giving one of each special item to the girls, you need to have certain stat boosts. The hardest is the girl in Habara, as she wants your Karma to be -50. That's right, MINUS 50. Mine is at +90 right now. She does say she likes bad boys, so that makes sense. I guess you kill all the people in the store and this gets you video games plus lowers your karma. Hopefully, then, you can build it back up. Lan, did you know that or were you just going around killing everyone anyway? :D
Man, I don't know if this is worth it:
It takes killing 7 innocents to make the Karma go down a level and I was at 75. I got it down to 70 after 10 minutes of playing or so. Getting it to -50 is going to be a pain  I am getting all kinds of cool stuff from them though - HUGE coins (400+, plasma blades, weapons I've never heard of, etc...)

Well, if you don't have the Knuckle Mole suit already, you should go back to get it. Caldoaxa ruins Not sure if that's the requirement for moving on in Aegis (I'm just at that point myself), but I could probably tell you soon. So how does online work exactly? Do you just pick it and sit there?
I'm adding the rest of the codes I didn't have right now... and I guess I'm just gonna wait for others to get online. So GET ONLINE FOOLS! MASSIVE CONTACT is upon us!
EDIT: Which should I pick? Invite or recieve? I guess for the time being, I'll sit on recieve and see what happens.
EDIT #2: Whoops, that was for wireless, not WiFi. Alright, I'm waiting!
EDIT #3: Screw the infernal beeping noise. I'm just gonna play it until you freaks get on.
Well, if you don't have the Knuckle Mole suit already, you should go back to get it. Caldoaxa ruins Not sure if that's the requirement for moving on in Aegis (I'm just at that point myself), but I could probably tell you soon. If it's not, then I'll need to go back to RF and io's spoilers from earlier.
I don't believe you need to dig in order to move on, however, there are a couple of things you will want to dig up in the pyramids, so yes, Tyvan, you better get it.
Oh wait, you DO need all the suits to open a door and proceed (but you don't actually have to do the digging). So, yes, go and get that suit. You also need the Fly Boy suit, the Aqua Suit, and, of course, the Nitro Suit.
Tybee - you can save anywhere there is a bed and bath combo. They are all over the place. I'm not sure exactly what makes your karma go up, but mine was around 90 when I was in Habara. I think it goes up when you kill monsters. What is wierd about Habara is that your karma drops 5 LEVELS or so every time you open a chest in the store (and, I guess, "steal" stuff). Yet it takes killing 7 people for ONE level of karma drop. That's the warped morality of a software maker I guess - stealing video games is 35x worse than killing . (They also have funny comments about warez and roms in this section). My karma is down to 55 or so now, mostly due to opening the chests in Habara. I really don't think I'll have the patience to get it to -50, then back up again (I hear some of the shops will shun you if it is negative).

I too had to brave the wilds of the gamefaqs message boards. Notice how that particular thread degrades into everyone calling eachother perverted. Classic.
But, if you want to get Ayaka (the videogame girl), I would do it ASAP. Then you can work on get that karma back up the rest of the game. I was at 50 before I started my killing spree and it took a good while. But, on the plus side it made be over 45,000 gold.
Alright, I'm sitting online now. Anyone?

Cool - now I just have one more slot to fill. Wonder if you get anything for having all of 'em filled?
Also, has anyone determined if you get anything for doing Contact a second time with the same person? I can see people (like Lan) when they are on again, but haven't tried it a second time with anyone.

Botticus has the skull thing on my island. Haven't seen a cow yet. Just wait till you get the killer bunny.
The gloves can go to a person in Aegis, though for what purpose I haven't figured out yet - he just left with 'em and didn't give me anything in return.
Here's another reason you will want to dig around in Aegis with the Knuckle Mole suit. This isn't a huge spoiler, but I'll tag it anyway:
You find a worm that will lead to getting the fishing outfit (take it where it makes sense to take it - a place before Aegis)

Anyone found a Masamune/katana yet? I have a feeling that's going to be the way to complete the Shadow Thief's first mission, unless io's found the solution already.
Info on the Masamune and the first Shadow Thief mission:
Lan covered it - the Masamune is in Habara, near the end actually - look for a secret passge near the top of an escalator that goes WAY down. The mayor will offer you 20,000 for it. So I just kept it as I got plenty of money from my killing spree :D.
I think I covered the Shadow Thief mission in an update - you just go back to the spice guy and go into the back room (push him out of the way or kill him). It is on a shelf in the room you saved him in earlier. I just hadn't picked it up earlier because the stupid bugs in there were too tough. They are still a nuisance, but no problem to kill now.
Here are my unsolved mysteries:
1) The guy in Aegis who wants the gloves (boxing gloves) just disappears.
2) The girl in Aegis who wants to set up an accessory shop
3) The exact stat levels you need for all the girlfriends
4) The use for the treasure map I fished out of the tubs on WiFi island (I only got part 3 so far)
Apparently I missed an item by not giving the soldier at the beginning of Ft. Eagle an Army Knife. He gives you some other weapon in return (according to the Gamefaqs people anyway). There are also quite a few side stories in Ft Eagle so you might want to head back there. Someone wants to be a king, there's the big fish, and also something about a scientist and dolly the sheep - this is all blabbering from Gamefaqs people :D.

That will have to be for a second playthrough.
The guy who apparently wanted the army knife now collects recyclable stuff. Sold him two empty cans for about 40 each.
Re: Shadow Thief
So wait, the stuff you get for the Shadow Thief mission are the cloves? That's what I was able to pick up from the spice cabinet when I went there (I didn't do that sidequest until just yesterday). I thought it was something else.
^^^ Yes to your question about the Shadow Thief. I had done that sidequest so long ago I thought it was part of the regular story. I guess not... The master thief does tell you exactly what it is you are looking for, dod you miss that?
I agree on not being able to get everything this playthrough. However, this game has one fatal flaw for collector's and completists. It would seem from the detailed grids of items that the game is tailored for collecting and getting 100% complete, etc... However, the one flaw is that once you sell or use an item, it is no longer shown in the inventory. What they should have done was show a shadow version or "grayed out" version of the item, or at least show you what that slot is when you highlight it - and it should count towards the number of items collected (which the game doesn't even keep track of as far as I know - is there a % complete stat anywhere?). I'm thinking along the lines of Tales of Legendia. Once you make or find something, you don't need to keep it any more to be "complete" (as often it might be needed to make something else). It just would have been nice if they threw a few more tracking/completion elements into this game - would have added a bit of incentive to getting all these obscure items.
Having said all this, I got stuck again last night on the part after Habara... RF, have you gotten through there yet?

Yes I completely agree. I did notice they kinda do this with some of the treasure items. Some trade items like the staue and car parts get little check marks when traded away.
Having said all this, I got stuck again last night on the part after Habara... RF, have you gotten through there yet?
Rizo Island?
Oh, yeah. I'm basically just messing around until I want to go to the castle. Did you guys get the secret UFO decal yet?
No, do tell :D
Lan_Zero - I was wondering why I still had the statue pieces in my inventory. I saw the check marks but wasn't sure what they meant. Interesting. Yet, if I sell the Masumune to the mayor of Caldoaxa I'm sure it will go away forever. I guess I could try it and not save.
Yes, I'm stuck at Rizo. Admittedly, I got there at about 2 or 3 am last night and was too tired to put much effort into it. But it seemed I couldn't get to the girl at all to stop her keyboard playing - she just kept telling me to go away :D. And it didn't seem like there was much else to do there.
It seems I'm near the end of the game, yet I'm missing a ton of recipes and still can't make a couple of the ones I have. I even spent some time levelling cooking up to 30, thinking that would unlock level 2 cooking - nothing. Plus when I look at the skills/abilities matrix there are a TON I haven't gotten yet. It seems they don't come easily.

Wait, it just came to me as I was surfing CAG and watching football what I need to do on Rizo island (funny how these things come to you - it's the same when I'm stuck on a heinous bug in my software, I'll think of the solution while showring, or playing games, or watching a movie, etc...). The only 'event' there was I could walk up and see what was playing on the one keyboard when she moved to the other equipment. Now I remember something in Habara... Didn't want to waste the money at that time on what I thought was just a frivolous bonus item . That must be it though...

Behind the hut on Bamboo Island where the kid buried his grandfater...sometimes a UFO comes down when you enter the screen. Perhaps if you...blew into the microphone when the UFO came into view? Of course, that's all hullabaloo and nonsense....
Oh, and if you're still on RIZO island, don't leave without hugging the south wall in the passage with all the sea turtle things. You might get a nice present(if you haven't gotten it already).

Ah, I saw the UFO, but would *never* have thought of blowing on the mic :D. Could you list that Rizo island item in a spoiler tag? I am pretty good at finding the secret passages so I probably got it, but I can't think of what it is/was.
By the way, speaking of the turtles - I noticed they drop eggs. Is the only way to get the other cooking items like butter and milk by killing fridges in Habara? I assumed by now I would be able to buy them - but unless that happens in the castle I haven't found a shop for them yet. Also, there must be something you can do with that stuff and the woman in Caldoaxa who mentions them all - any ideas there? (she mentions butter, milk, eggs, etc).

You basically need to locate one cell on each of many islands in the game. The Professor guides you and the character (the two are different in this game) along the way from the safety of the top screen, while all the action takes place on the bottom. Combat is somewhat automatic. Put your guy into attack mode, and he attacks whatever is near him; there's no separate combat screen. But you can control special attacks and whatnot, run away when you feel like it, avoid battles if you choose.
Lots of secret passages, lots of collectibles, lots of fun.
Feel free to contribute to this description if you'd like.

Carbon rod,a nice fishing tool (at least until something better comes along in the last castle) Also, the woman gives you money for giving her all the ingredients. I think it's based on how much of each ingredient you have when you talk to her.

Okay, I'm still way behind you guys. So sue me. Had a busy social calendar this weekend and had to finish up an article for work. Anyway, I think I've done everything I can do in Caldoxa Ruins at this point. I know you guys said you need to get the mole knuckle suit. I found the guy digging, and I assume that's what he takes off when he's waiting for his lunch, but I don't seem to have anything he wants to eat. I've tried preparing kebabs, all kinds of BBQ, pretty much anything I can think of, but I'm never able to offer him anything. And it won't let me attack him. Help?
Also, is there anything else I should make sure I do before I set off for Ft. Eagle? I found the girl who likes flowers. Guess I get five of those later, because I haven't found any yet, although I do have two or three types of bugs for whenever I find bug girl. I want my harem, dammit.

The Knuckle Mole suit is way easier than you're making it ;) Just hit A while standing over the suit that's lying on the ground. I've never given him anything, though I'm curious if there is in fact some item that he would want.

I swear I did that...multiple times. Gah. You know how sometimes you can't do something until you're 100% sure that's what you're supposed to do?
I wonder if he does want something. He keeps talking about food. I kind of thought for a while that the breakfast lady is getting it together for him and that's what you give him.

I had the same problem Tybee. I saw that there and kept running over it with no luck - finally the 'A' trick worked. It is wierd because you pick everything else up just by running through it. Not the clothes though, for some reason.
I played quite a bit last night but didn't make any major discoveries except this:
1) Caught a Pirahna :D
2) Go back to the very FIRST island - the deserted isle. There are 2 people there - one wants coral and you get a weapon in return. I caught coral from the area just before where this person is (fby fishing over the cliff). the second wants to know about treasure - I'm assuming he may have something to do with the treasure map piece I found. So I went back to Wi-Fi island to try to fish more pieces from the tubs - all I caught was catfish.
Got to Rizo Island today. Also got a girlfriend on my ship.

As much as I've been playing, I still haven't been able to do this. My stats are all wrong except for maybe Intelligence, IF they count a stat-boosting weapon for that. But it in that one case I don't have the items I need (all the bugs).

Getting the video game girl in Hakaba is the easiet. all you need to do is to keep killing town people. As for the games you need to give her, the people in Hakaba drop them when they die. I am told you can get more girlfriends so I still got a lot to do.

Ah, well, that is the one I am by far the furthest from getting (and I consider the most difficult unless you work on it from the start). Don't you need to have -50 karma? I figured out you need to kill 7 people for one level of Karma drop. I was at +75 or so and gave up after getting to +50 - and much of that drop was from opening the chests in Habara which drop you 3 or 4 FULL Karma levels - if only they respawned it would be easy to get Karma down. I didn't feel like killing 700 more shoppers/townspeople, so I'll give up my dreams of getting that girl :D.
just got to the last boss. Looks like I need to do some level up.
Sporophyte
10-31-2006, 12:51 PM
Losing the karma necessary to get the girl isn't as hard as you'd think. The closer your karma level gets to 0 the easier it is to lose levels. Once you get down to level 20 or so you can lose levels with just one or two kills.
now people are saying you need -24 karma on gamefaqs
Hmmm... I suppose I could give it a try. The problem is that my karma is back up over 75 again :D... And I know it takes 7 or so kills at this level to get it down one. On the other hand, I'm trying to level up theft, fishing, and cooking skills, so I need to do more fighting anyway. The game is a little unbalanced in that I am near the end, have explored a ton, have gone back to each place several times, and still I haven't opened up 1/3 of the skill matrix. I'm still waiting on level 2 cooking and theft.
I made it through the castle to what I assume is the end. To anyone who has finished is this the end:
The fight with Mint on the red dragon thing
If not, how much more is there afterwards? And are there any good items after that point, if so? I never found the good fishing rod RF said was in the castle, but then again there are 2 or 3 chests I can't open yet. If there's nothing after that I'll go back to other places and level up.

Anyone who has already beat it:
My problem is a little wierd. I can beat the final boss(es), I see the credits roll and everything. I even have a screen that says "saving, do not remove the cart or turn off the power".
But when it's all said and done, if I continue my game I just go back to right before I beat the final boss. According to everyone elses accounts there's an entire post-game to play.
Anyone else beat Contact yet and can help me out here?

Check you inventory for some new items. There are also some new monsters to fight. And since you can finish this game with low level skills, you can work to unlock the other skills and other items you missed.
I liked this ending a lot. The ending was meh up until the final monologue which made me love it.

I'm on Aegis (the pyramid island) and kind of at a loss about what to do now.
I've been into the pyramid with the archaeologist, led him to the room of interest, found the side room with the skill/attribute spots on the floor, and picked up all of them except for the fire one, as I don't think I have a suit (thought chef outfit might work...nope) or weapon or whatever that seems to activate it and (I'm assuming) open the door. Also not sure what to do with the girl with the broken down car outside, the guy who needs to see a deed before he'll let me in, the kidnapped people, the kid who wants gloves (but apparently not the ones I have in my inventory), the half-assed shopkeeper, and God knows what else. This is definitely the most frustrating island so far.
Also, I was thinking about it and this game kind of reminds me of Monkey Island in that you're on a pirate ship traveling to different islands, each with its own politics and problems, and you're doing the same kind of puzzle solving. On the other hand it seamlessly folds in some great RPG elements like skill acquisition, cooking, battles, that really make it unique. I love this game.

Okay, here are at least two things you haven't done:
You need to buy a pipe or something from one of the shop keepers. Give that to the girl with the car, she gives you the Nitro Suit. That is the fire suit, which will take care of the last thing in the side room.
The deed costs 10000 and is also at one of the shops, but it's not required.
I think there are a ton of things in that level I didn't complete, but I think I'm moving on from there. Just gonna get my Shadow Thief outfit, and move onto Habara.

Incidentally, although I filled my contacts roster, I haven't connected with everyone yet. Missing two or three. Will have to check when I get home to see who it is. I need all of those keen bonus items!
One more question:
The fisherman at Ft. Eagle is looking for bait (for which he will obviously give me a fishing rod). I don't want you to tell me specifically what he wants, but is it something I should have by the time I leave Aegis? Or does it show up later?

Holy hell... for anyone who's having issues dropping their karma for whatever reason: Put on the Shadow Thief outfit and start opening treasure chests. Whether or not they're locked, every time I open one, my karma drops 5 levels. Used to be up in the 90s, now I'm at 66. :-(
I should also add... playing through Habara with Shadow Thief is hard as hell. I may need to go find some potions and stock up.
And... the Castle just destroyed me. Time to go do some more level-grinding. I was actually able to get by without doing that since the first or second level.

Yeah, I already told you about the karma/chest thing - however, I think it drops regardless of the Shadow Thief outfit when in Habara. It was dropping even when I opened unlocked chests. And this only happens in Habara, not anywhere else it would seem.
I got killed at what I think is the end of the castle, so I am leveling too.
But, in the process, I finally got a girlfriend - woo-hoo! I got the flower one from Caldoaxa. She wants courage at 30, and I just hit that yesterday.
Now, the one on Le Chef Beach wants fame - not sure how much. But I just noticed something important - fame DROPS when you die! I had no idea until I was waiting for it to hit 20, died, then noticed it was 18 or so. At first I assumed you might lose money or something, but when that didn't happen I assumed there were no consequences. Oops... So it might take a while to get the bikini girl :D (if she wants fame to be 30).
I cannot find anything besides the 2 bugs (grasshopper and dragonfly). I'm assuming there are other ones?? The beetle-like bugs only drop those. Where do you get the others?
A tip - go back to Aegis, in front of the 10,000 pyramid. There is a guy there who wants one of each gem. He gives you a flamberge, which is a 30 attack sword and boosts your fire resistance, which might be good for what I think is the end of the Castle, though no one answered my question about that :D. I mean the fire dragon thing than Mint rides

At last, something I can help YOU with! You can get at least two other bug species (possibly three...can't rememeber) in the Caldoxa ruins from those pill bug things that spin. They give up beetles and stag beetles.

Thanks, but I figured it out last night ;). I actually got them off the beetle things in the cave on Le Chef Beach. Then I gave all the bugs to the girl at Ft. Eagle and she ignored me. I guess I'm not smart enough yet... And I spent a TON of time fighting with one of the staffs that helps your Intelligence go up. Does anyone know what level it needs to be. Apparently it doesn't count if you equip a stat-boosting weapon. My Intelligence was 20, and I had a +20 weapon equipped (something I stole off one of the mages in the final castle).
What I've been doing is fighting in the Shadow Thief outfit with that staff. Then I try to steal items whenever I can - so I'm boosting Intelligence and Theft skills.
OH, and I was also able to fish out the 2nd Treasure Map piece - it was in the sideways tub in Ft. Eagle where one of the save points is (there are 2 tubs there, one to refresh health, the other oriented sideways). Now if I could just find the FIRST piece...

Well, I'm going to give the castle one more shot before going back to level-grind a bit. I had about 20 potions, which let me get to the final boss, but I wasn't quick enough and died after dealing out about a quarter of damage. Got up to 40 potions this time, and throwing on my Nitro suit (losing 50 HP), so hopefully the defense bonus will help.
Tons and tons of sidequests I haven't completed, but I'm going to save those for future playthroughs.
I still have 2 spaces open on my friends list, so if anyone that I haven't already made contact with wants to just shoot me a pm or leave a message.

15 hours for me with probably another 5 or 10 if I tried to complete/unlock everything.
Since I will be keeping the copy of Children of Mana that I'm picking up from GR tomorrow and returning my EB copy, I guess I will go back to Magical Starsign next.

Wow, I'll have to look at my time, but I think I'm way past that and have only gotten 1 GF (and will never get the -50 Karma one). How did you get the one that wants high intelligence? I've been fighting for the last 4-5 hours with a staff that raises INT, but it is so DAMN slow. I got it over 20, no dice. What does it need to be, and how do you play for only 15 hours and get it up so high?? Same with the one who wants fame - mine is just at 20, don't tell me it needs to be 30. That would be, like, 10 more hours of play without being killed once.
And please tell about these optional bosses and tricks! I still have to do the ending again and see the special thing. The first time I waited a while at the "Blue Screen of Fin" but nothing happened, so I turned it off.
And has anyone gotten all the treasure map pieces? If so, where is the first one, or are they just random fishing items?
I've also spent a TON of time fishing, stealing, and cooking, and have yet to hit level 2 in any of those things. It would be nice to be able to make 3/4 of the damn recipes I have and open those last few chests! What levels do you need in those?
Yeah, I could look in Gamefaqs, but I found too many spoilers last time I did that (I'd like the level 2 treasure chests, etc, to be surprises).

I just beat the game last night and was wondering what optional things that I could do. Any suggestions?

I hate to break this to you, but you're going to be trying to get to level 2 for a long time. I think it's level 55 for Shadow thief, and I'm not sure about the others.
This game gets minus points for grinding and being too short. I think the grinding would be less detrimental if the main story were longer.

If you want to lower karma I would do it now as it is only going to get harder as your karma will be higher.
To raise INT use element base attack like rock
For frame you just kill those sheep enemies in Ft. Eagle
As for the trick with the optional boss, they are very powerful and can kill you in one hit. However with 2 of them you can sort of trap them, getting them stuck in a point where you can hit them but they cant hit you.
You thief skill has to be 70 to open lev 2 chest.

RF and 62t, thanks on the level 2 dealie... Yes, major gripe with the game is how unbalanced it is with respect to the skill set progression. You should have unlocked at least 2/3 of them by the time the game ends (and not 1/6 or whatever that I have now). It's fine to leave a bit for "after" the main game, but this is ridiculous. It probably means I'll never bother with it again after I see the "good" ending.
I guess I never even knew that you could cast spells in this game. Part of the problem was I was trying to level the job skills so I am always wearing one of those 3 outfits when fighting and almost never the Knuckle Mole, Nitro, etc... I guess I can play a bit more with one of those to get the INT high. And I guess I'll go kill the sheep in Ft. Eagle while I'm at it - should help for 2 of the girls.
Not sure what you mean by "do it now" on the karma thing as my Karma is currently maxed out at 100. The time to do it is VERY early in the game and you need to start being a badass from the very beginning, I think. Oh well, that's what I get for being a bit ahead of most people on a game (which I rarely am) :D.
OK, thanks to the tips here I was able to level my Intelligence and Fame pretty quickly from 20 to 30. It only took about 1/2 hour of fighting the sleepy sheep things at Ft. Eagle with a Moon Staff (which also helps build up Intelligence) and spells whenever possible. Then I got the other 2 GF's (leaving only the one in Habara off the ship ), and finished the game again to see the good ending.
If there wasn't a wealth of other games to play (not to mention the Wii coming out in less than 2 weeks) I'd play this a bit more to level up and get all the items. But it seems kind of pointless now when it looks like it will take quite a bit of time.
The only thing I probably ought to try for now is the treasure map thing, since I already have 2 pieces.
I heard rumors about additional items available via WiFi, so if anyone finds out about that and wants to connect or reconnect (if that gets anything) just PM me and we can set up a time. I filled up all my slots but never tried removing someone and adding another back in - maybe that gets you nothing, or another of the same item (I gave away that one Sushi so I wouldn't mind getting that back), or even new items.

Wait, there's a good ending?! How do you get it, if ya don't mind me asking?

Sorry, bad choice of words - I simply meant waiting for (what seemed like) a long long time after the "Fin" screen comes up to see the additional (ie, good) content. The first time I finished I turned it off after a few minutes of the "Fin" screen.

Ah ok. Would've been interesting to see what else Atlus would have thrown in.

Sounds good.
What should I invest the most time into leveling up? Bladed weapons or Blunt weapons? I was first starting out just using my fists, as I tend to like characters like that (like Final Fantasy monks.) But I was getting my ass kicked in the caves of La Naked Chef or whatever. So I found a bat and have been using that.
And about combat, do I just sit there and let him attack while occasionally throwing in some techs? Or is there a way to block/dodge the enemies?

It really dosent matter because once you beat the game you can level up all your weapon skill easily. I would stick with blunt because you can get some pretty good hammer type weapon. If you level up your fist to 60, you learn a move death blow that can kill most enemies in one hit. (probably a lot easier to learn once you beat the game)

Yeah, I haven't made contact with anyone else yet, either. I haven't gotten too far in this game yet because Elite Beat Agents has consumed my gaming time recently. Hoping to get to more of this game and Clubhouse Games soon. It's too bad so many good games had to come out at the same time, not enough time for them all.

Yeah, I'm still looking to contact someone, too.
Let me know when you guys want to set it up and I'll make sure to be on.
I just got to Ft. Eagle too, so I'm not real far either. Been playing FFXII mostly.
Just finished the game. I have to say that it was money well spent, it sucks that it really didn't catch on (at least with my gamer friends), I can only hope that they make another one, or something similar.

Would someone mind telling me where all the friends are located on WiFiIsland? I can't seem to find one. It's a pretty decent maze. If you have 8 people contacted, it's pretty easy to stumble on someone, otherwise you have to go through every nook and cranny of that cave to find someone.

In all honesty, I'm just looking for the second-to-last person in the cave.

Hep me, Hep me!
I was doing fine until Ft Eagle. I talk to the old guy with the dog at the campfire. Terry and the old guy take a stroll to where I assume is his home. When we get to the entrance at the bottom of the screen, the old man says he wonders where Hunt (the dog) is and can we go look for him.
The dog is still at the campfire. And he refuses to budge. Is there something I need to do to get the dog to join us?
I don't know if it's related or not, but the screen before the campfire, there is a guy who is looking for something but I haven't found anything on this island so far. ???

I'm pretty sure the soldier looking for something wants an army knife. I missed giving that to him (he is gone after you finish Ft Eagle). Apparently you get a weapon that you can't otherwise get in the game.
As for the dog, I don't really remember. I know you have to get him to follow you and it is a pain because he often gets stuck and if you get too far ahead he goes back to the campfire. Just try talking to him, then see if he follows??
keithp

Yeah, io has it right- just touch the dog to get him to follow you. When you're navigating the maps don't get too far ahead of either companion and you should be fine.

Thanks guys. I had touched the dog about a million times. For whatever reason, he wouldn't follow. I left Ft Eagle and went back the Deserted Isle (picked a location at random) then sailed back. Sure enough, Hunt followed no problem.
*shrugs*
And yes, the Army dude at the first screen on Ft Eagle was looking for an Army Knife.

I haven't been able to play as much as I would like. But I do have a question about Mochi, is using his decal at all useful? He doesn't seem to do anything but run on screen when I use it.
