So I go up stairs after just getting up and seeing a Fed Ex thing on the table with my name on it. I dont do any important things like for business, so this in and of itself is very weird. Anyway, I open it up and this is how the letter starts.
"Your name has been drawn as a Grand Prize Winner of a trip for one (1) to Insomniac Studios in Burbank, California on November 13-14, 2006 in the Resistance: Fall of Man Sweepstakes sponsored by Sony COmputer Entertainment America Inc."
So I have to go to a Notary and get something signed infront of them, and mail it back. The prize conists of airfare there and back (probably from Chicago...i'm From NOtre Dame/South Bend, IN), one night in a hotel, a tour of Insomniac Studios, dinner with the developers, and game time with the developers. Then it makes it sound like there is a 40 man Resistance tournament, and it sounds like I'm entered into that as well. So yeah, i'm pretty pumped right now. And this is the second trip I've won this year. I won a trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska via the Notre Dame baseball games this past summer.

Do you get the game for freeeeeee? Cuz you should :)
Congrats, man. Best sweepstakes I've ever won is a rollerskating party for 10 at a local skating rink

I dont get a PS3 or anything for this contest, but I am entered into this tournament. Im hoping the tournament is comprised of people like me who won contests randomly and not via skill in games. I'm kinda guessing the tournament will have a PS3 as the top prize, but that's really just me hoping I guess.

I won it through the Sony Retail Loyalty Site. The site is for retail employees who sell games. I got on one day, and thought what the hell, entering can't hurt anythign. I entered, and forgot all about it untill this morning when I opened the thing. At first I didnt remember entering a contest, but then I remembered all of a sudden.

I would see if there's a cash-out option, get the money if there is, then buy a PS3 ;)

Remember a lot of times you pay taxes on a cash out option if its over a certain amount..
Good luck and write us a nice article when you get back... those types of things have a tendency to end up on the front page.

Burbank smells funny. Oh, when you do go, take a trip to the Burbank Entertainment district and then look for the giant industrial complex on the west side of the freeway- it looks just like the Shinra complex that gets blown up at the beginning of FFVII.
Oh and maybe check out Universal Studios since it's right next door.

I won a sweepstake about 2 months ago. I got 2 tickets to fly down to Florida and back and spend 3 days at Disney and Universal Studios and then the next 4 days I'm on a cruise to the Bahamas. Everything is enclusive and $2,000 spending cash. So that's my Christmas Trip.

No cash out option, but I think I still have to pay taxes on this. I liek to think that I'm fairly good at FPS's, so if its just random people I would think I would have a shot at winning it. And if a PS3 would be the top prize, I think I would probably die.

good luck!
1st place is a ps3, resistance game and a nerd jacket!!!! ;P
2nd place is the game and jacket.
3rd on down is a poster
If I were you, I would go for first place.
I would still practice your FPS skills in case theres one other crazy counterstrike guy that gets invited. All it takes is 1.

Dinner with the developers? That dosen't sound terribly exciting, imo.
I just imagine a bunch of nerdy looking guys sitting around a pizza hut talking about how awesome ratchet and clank was.
The tour would be awesome though.

I would be uncomfortable since I've never played one of their games.

i confess, i'm an SD native, so my view is quite jaded. there are some beautiful parts to CA, to be truthful. pretty much all of it north of LA.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't really cared about anything they've developed and when it comes down to it, I'd really rather just talk to Itagaki.

Gratz - cool prize for you.
Take some pics if you can and post them when you get back.
I get those "You just won a free trip" emails all the time. Maybe I should start reading them

I'm actually prepping for this tournament. To prep, I bought a PS2--> Xbox converter so I can use the controller when I do system link for Halo2 at school. I figure thats better than playing any other FPS on PS2 since the most I could get is 4 people at a time.

If there were some sort of cash option, you would only pay taxes if it were over $1200. I've won money both at casinos and through radio stations and they both have the same guidelines. Anything under $1200 is a taax write-off for them, but tax free for the winner. Once the winning goes over $1200, you get a fun form to fill out for your taxes.

Well, I just got back. I ended up 5th out of 40 which netted me a copy of the game, an exclusive poster signed by the team, a PS3 shirt, and a very very cool Resistance Jacket. I'll post pics of that on Thursday when I get it via Fed Ex. Anyway, i'll post some more impressions later, but unfortunately no pics. They didnt want us taking any in there.
