My friends that works at BB says it won't work. He says they were notified that pre-orders won't work (GoW, F.E.A.R, COD3).

I'm still going to try. I got other stuff to buy. Besides, I really want that GoW shirt.

yes, I can't speak for the 2 other games you mentioned, but the GoW preorder has an actual 360 case (with the t shirt attached) that they scan unlike those other games you mentioned. As soon as the cashier scans both the GoW case and the 1600 points as long as it's in the same transaction (doesn't matter what order or when they scan what), the computer prompts them to accept the $15.00 off 1600 points promo. So it without a doubt works with the GoW preorder case as I and others here have done it.

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation.

I really hope I can return the pre-order once I get the 1600 points. Of course, I'll return the pre-order the next day or something.

For my online order, I preordered a game, and picked up the points at the store (charged $4.99 when I picked up the points). I later cancelled my preorder over the phone. The person on the phone just said "Ok, it's now cancelled." It worked! But wait.... now online my order shows points as

$4.99
item picked up

-$4.99 **showed up after I cancelled the preorder
item picked up

$19.99 **showed up after I cancelled the preorder
item picked up

Definitely wacky - I never "picked up" or authorized the $19.99 charge. Also the tax charged is not correct (still only charging me tax for $4.99). So I'm waiting to see if my card will actually be charged again. They didn't mention ANYTHING about charging my card more when I cancelled my preorder. I don't care if they wanted to charge me $19.99, just tell me. I would have either kept my preorder or purchased another game.

Did it make you pay for the entire game online (instead of just $5 down for the preorder)? Also, does anyone know if you can use BB gift cards online?

Has anyone tried to cancel the preorder in store? Do they let you get your money back or do they make you switch the preorder to another game? And most importantly, do they give you any grief about the 1600 M$ points?

What I'm wondering is if I can come in with receipts for buying multiple GOW t-shirts and apply it as credit to another game?

Ditto. I guess that's the burning question now: what's the best thing to do with all the $5 GOW preorders? Keep them sealed and return them or just sit on them and later take them back to be hopefully used as credit for other games, even if each has to be applied to a separate game.

ebay them when the game comes out...people will want it for the shirts and quite possibly may pay more then $5 for it

edit: from the looks of it you can ebay them now and make a bit of money off of it

You can't do the cancel thing with an online order. Since it was a bundle discount, if you cancel one of the items, the discount dissappears off of the other item. So you paid $5 for the points since you preordered a game(and not charged anything for the game since it was a preorder) but since you then canceled the preorder, your $5 changed to $19.99 since you didnt qualify for the bonus.

You can probably do it B&m though with gears of war.

I'm not sure if I'm actually going to be charged more though, since my order was split (ship the preorder game, pick up the points card). My experience with pick ups is that they only charge you when you physically pick up the product. I had already done this (and was charged $4.99 +.25 tax). So now online it's cancelling out that part of the order and showing $19.99 + .25 tax, but also as having been picked up. Maybe it's just showing this online and it will never really process on my card. I might be hoping for too much, but at the very least their system is confused, because it should now be charging $.99 tax, but it's still only showing $.25.

But wouldn't this be quite a bit YMMV, since at the time of purchase neither of the two items are 19.99, and thus the GGC would get shot down?

Picked up a copy of Burnout Revenge at Best Buy, and the $5 points. Wouldn't let me use a GGC, but I used $2 in BBBucks and a $5 reward zone cert. $30 total.

Then went to Circuit City and had them pricematch the points deal, with plans to return the copy of PGR3 tomorrow.

No kidding. The BB near me is already out of points cards, I'm sure to 1 or 2 people.

Wish BB would've limited this, although people would've still found a way around it. (paying with cash or something)

Sigh... hope I can get in on this deal this week... (had to wait for my credit card to cycle)

I've only got 4 or five I think, but the wording on the piece and the game rules online made it seem like I could only get a maximum of $3 off a game purchase. As much as I want to get more BBB, I can't bring myself to eating all that McDonald's food. Ugh. Though I have to say, the Chicken Select stuff isn't so bad.

Does Circuit City give CASH refunds on purchased games?

Or is it store credit...

Because if it's cash refund, I see no reason to NOT pick the games up, but if it's store credit... bleh.

so basically if i pre-order GOW and get the 4.99 promo and then I can return the pre-order and get $5 back?! That's crazy! Even if I picked up the pre-order and 1600 points card for $10 and not follow through with the pre-order its still a good deal! and on top of that i get a shirt.

I think someone mentioned that BB keeps a count of how many preorders there were and when the game arrives, they bring that amount to the customer service area. You just have to hold on to your reciept and present it there when it's released.

In my experience, the pre-order does absolultely nothing. They don't reserve anything for you and its not even at the customer service part, you have to get one and take it up to them. I've done 2 dvd pre-orders and they were both like this. It ultimately doesnt really matter though since big stores like Best Buy never sell out of big games/dvds the first week.

Houston, and Im not sure if I would classify remakes of 15 year old nes games/5 year old psx ports on a handheld system as big games. sorry to hear about that, there were like 10-15 GoW pre-orders at my BB today as well as some F.E.A.R. pre-orders I think those might work the same. Though I am not positive about the F.E.A.R. pre-orders can anyone confirm this.

Glad I stopped by today at my local store. There were a few GoW preorders, but only 3 or 4 more point cards in the store. I picked up just one of each--$10 for 1600 points and a t-shirt, yay. I'm sure they will be sold out by Friday.

Yes. At first the guy said "This is just a T-Shirt it doesn't count as a game." I informed him that it was a pre-order so it was just like I was buying a game. He then scanned GoW and then the 1600 card. Card came up as $19.99. Who know, maybe he was an idiot.
They have to hit Total, and then a message pops up saying the discount will be applied.

Anyone has actually confirmed this by returning/cancelling???

If you order this online with a game and then cancel the game after you get the points you WILL be charged the full price for the points. While they don't charge your card until the pre-order ships, your card is authorized for the full price of the pre-ordered game and points. So if you cancel the game, there will be enough authorized credit on your card to charge you the full amount for the points and they will be able to do that. It says specifically that the bundle purchase return policy is in effect for the deal.

They also aren't going to let you get your $5.00 back from the pre-order without turining over the shirt as well and that will effectively void the deal too.

Like others have stated the price is reduced when they hit Total/Enter. A huge grey box pops on the screen confiming the $4.99 MS points, so the guy basically fucked you.

There is no limit to how many the system will let you do. It's all up to the store staff. I picked up 6 today, my wife and I each buying 3. They weren't happy about it, but they really couldn't figure out anyway to stop me, since the system allows it, and they couldn't find anyone to tell them I couldn't do it. Assload of GOW preorder boxes left at the Hickory Hollow store in TN, btw. For the record, I did one legit as well with my purchase of Marvel: Ultimate Allicance today. I'm broke now, but dammit there's nothing quite like sticking it to best buy. I should have been wearing horns. :)

Hm how'd you return it w/o the shirt?

I lucked out I think and.or got a stupid cashier... I simply walked up to him w/ reciept and stated I was able to get a sweet trade in deal @ GS w/pre-order there and I didnt need 2 copies. I figured he would ask for the shirt, but on a whim I left it in the car to try and get away w/ an extra shirt. Figured I'd go get it if it was necessary. Guy looked @ my reciept and said 'ok, here ya go' and handed me my money, 'Have a nice day!':D

To clarify I DID NOT!!!! cancel my pre-order w/points card, just my pre-order last week when I wanted the shirt.

So now I have 2 GoW shirts for the price of 1.... sill BB:booty:

I bought four of the GoW preorders as well. I've been thinking if someone was so inclined they could buy all the games they preordered then return them to recoup the original $5 investment for the t-shirt. Though, honestly, I'm not sure how BB handles preorders enough to be sure it'd work. If so, you could then sell the t-shirts and either get the points for free or turn over a profit, I suppose.

You can preorder CoD3 in store and get the points. I did it twice the other day. Although it won't come up automatically in the register for some reason, the clerks manually corrected the price for the points. Based on the sale terms (w/purchase or preorder of any 360 game) CoD3 should have worked automatically in the register.

Will Best Buy make you buy your pre-ordered GOW? Or can you buy a bunch of pre-orders for $5 and just never claim them? I thought that once you buy a pre-order, they automatically charge your card when it comes out. Am I wrong?

I just bought Marvel:Ultimate Alliance for the 360 with the 4.99 Marketplace deal at Bestbuy.

I also pre-order Gears of War at Circuit City using the 15% off coupon from this months Xbox Magazine. I paid all of my money up front, to make sure I got the 15% off, and then the manager approved a match of the BestBuy Deal to get the Marketplace points for $4.99.

So, I was happy to get 3200 Marketplace points for the 9.98 (plus tax), as well as pre-order Gears of War for 15% off.

I am saving the other Circuit City coupon for 10% off of any video game for when Call of Duty 3 for the 360 releases in November.

They can't force you to buy anything. If you are unsure, pay cash. What're they gonna do show up at your house and demand $55? No wait, they have zero contact info for you, so not. Best Buy doing preorders is a way for them to earn a little free money from people losing receipts or forgetting altogether. They don't take down any of your info, and the last time I pre-ordered they didn't even hold the game. I had to go to get one, and they just discounted it my purchase $5. Think of it as a rebate, people lose those all the time and retailers bank on it to make more money. This is the same thing.

I got it to work with the FEAR pre-order, snagged the bonus disc. They had to override it, but it clearly says Xbox 360 on the case despite not ringing up that way. They had no issue doing that.

use cash and it's completely irrelevant. I'd hate to say one way or the other, but I know if you do it online they will charge you for each, but in-store not sure, but if you use cash it's un-traceable.

In store you will just lose the $5.00 on the preorder when you don't pick it up. If you do the pre-order online and then cancel the game you WILL be charged the remainder of the card and they have every right to do so as is outlined in their bundle return policy.

There's a couple of options.

1: Return the pre-order GoW package. From a couple of other people in this thread that I remember, this worked. I plan on doing this on Sunday and hoping for the best. If they try to charge for the $15 bucks on the card, just keep the preorder.

2: Three weeks after launch, the $5 off coupon expires. In the preorder terms, available on BB's site (I think. Dont remember where I saw it), they say once the coupon expires, you may bring in your reciept for the $5 back, in cash. Just have to save the reciepts. This works even on a bundle (like the points card).

Man, I canvassed everywhere and I was hoping they had them up front by the cashiers, no dice. I had them look in the back too. A clerk working there did say that earlier some people had multiple copies, and everyone was price matching the B2G1F deal from TRU, and get the free Xmen game with Marvel Ultimate Alliance from Circuit City, and apparently, some fucktard cashier was handing out 1600points for each game!! So, all those people that pricematched the TRU deal got 3 of them, unbelievable.

not a chance :p Is it done manually or do the points automatically ring up $4.99 if you have a 360 game in your purchase? If so I might have a chance if I get a lazy and or dumb cashier.

BTW, you think walmart would be more likely to PM B2G1 than Bestbuy?

A screen pops up that says something like, XBOX 360 4.99 deal, yes or no. I told the cashier push Yes!!! She laughed so I think I was a little too excitable. I got the shirt and the points for 10 bucks. Shirt is pretty cool.

can you goto Circuit City and price match this deal there with a gears of war preorder there? I'd much rather do it for the faceplate than a stupid Tshirt.

I had already grabbed the last shirt so i did the CC deal to get the faceplate and i price matched the MP card and it worked like a charm. They do make u put 10 bux down though(at least for the CE version) i didnt see any cards for the Reg edition.

so wait...you pay the 5 (or 10) bucks to reserve GoW at CC (and guarantee a faceplate - or did they hand you it now) and they let you buy the card for 4.99? any tracking/obligation to pay the rest?

I think CC will only have the faceplates starting the day of release, so you are kind of obligated to pay the rest to get the faceplate.

I'm really sorry I havn't read through this thread enough, because I'm sure it's been answered, but you guys picking up a bunch of GoW pre-orders, do you plan on just keep the t-shirts (so you are basically paying 10.00 for the points?) or returning the pre-orders or what?

Ha! I just found out that there is a new Best Buy only a little further away from me than the one I went to earlier. When I went down there, I found out it was there very first day of operation! So they had plenty of the pre-orders and cards. I ended up gettiing 4 pre-orders + points cards.

A co-worker wanted a GoW shirt and couldnt get out there to get one (teenagers, meh...). He said he'd pay for the shirt, so I thought hey.... I can score another $5 card. Went to a different BB since it was close by, scored a 3rd shirt and 4th card. May keep up w this reciept and try to get $5 back in a few weeks... doesnt hurt to try....

Could someone please help me with the CC situation regarding this deal? I'm trying to sift through the thread to no avail about the method:

So people are PMing the bundle deal (Game/Preorder + Card) at CC? How? I keep finding errant posts about preordering a bunch of GOW's at CC and getting cards too. How do you get a CC to PM on preorders if it says on the BB ad that it's with purchase of a game?

Thanks.

Guyver, I preordered a game online, picked up the card instore, but when I cancelled my preorder over the phone, they ended up charging my card the remaining $15.00 (they didn't tell me they were going to) - so it didn't work.

I just did this deal online for the points, however they also have a deal for a Microsoft-Xbox Live 12-Month Value Pack at 20 bucks off with the purchase of a game.. which also comes with a 20 bucks off a xbox 360 game coupon in it... as well as a headset and 200 gamer points oh and the billiards arcade game "im thinking ebay since i have it already"

So I did
pre-order gears of war 59.99
Microsoft-1,600 Xbox Live Marketplace Points 4.99
Microsoft-Xbox Live 12-Month Value Pack 39.99

So saved 35 bucks pluss I am going to try and return gears without a reciept, then re buy it with the 20 bucks off coupon, or something to that extent.

would have to think thats about the best deal of the year.

I got the last points card at the Best Buy in Norwalk CT. They took all of the Gears preorders and put them behind the counter, so I think they were wise to the exploit. I ended picking up Ridge Racer 6 for 19.99 and scoring the points for 4.99. Not a bad deal.

If you bought the game online and then cancel the pre-order for any game you WILL get charged the extra money.

If you try to cancel the in-store pre-order the system should prompt them to collect the points card as well since it was part of the package. There's not enough money to collect back for the money that will be due for the points, so the system likely won't accept the return without the points.

All of those rebates expired back in June. Gamepro had a coupon for BB a few months ago that gave you $20 off a live kit basically as a compensation for the rebate not being valid. BB was already selling the year gold kits for $10 less than retail so with that coupon you effectively got $30.00 off retail.

Don't cancel. Just don't pick it up. $10 for the points is still a great deal. It is illegal for them to charge your account without authorization. They would get in all kinds of trouble. Think of people using their debit cards, what if BB decides to throw that $55 charge on there on a random day when your account is low causing the charge to bounce? I just don't see it happening. The shirt is a promotional item, they got your $5 for it to cover their costs. If you pick up the game it is a bonus for them, if not, it's a wash. You authorized a $5 charge, not a $5 then a $55 one chosen at their discretion. It doesn't work that way.

As for returning it, that seems a bit shady to me. Give them away for Christmas as gag gifts. There's "cheating the system" and then there is "CHEATING the system" if you know what I mean. The system allowing the points to go through on pre-oders is one thing, but returning it just so you get the points for $5 stretches the ethical line in my book.

Crap I forgot about this. I was planning on picking up Ridge Racer and a Card plus use the GGC. I don't own a 360 yet but it would have given me something that I could use right off the bat when I do get one. Wasn't really interested in Ridge Racer though, after playing Burnout Revenge, I don't think I could play any other arcade racer ever again. Well, I'll be on the look out for the next time point cards are offered on a deal.
