It would be sooo cool if this would work now.
Then I could get Dead Rising + 1600 xboxlive points for $45 - $10 in RZ Coupons.
That would be sweet.

I think I'm going to try this out when it hits the B&M stores. Ground shipping for Ridge Racer 6 and the points was $6.98. Doesn't kill the deal, but it does make it less attractive.

I was also thinking of using this deal when Blitz 360 comes out. Hopefully the deal won't be dead by then!

This will be perfect to stack on with the 500 RZ points with any online purchase. I've been meaning to do it, but I haven't had any incentive to shop online.
So the deal breaks down...
Ridge Racer 6 - 19.99
1600 Points - 4.99
500 points - (10.00) in gift cards
If you do the Pick up option the total would come out to be around 17.00 assuming you add in gift cards. I guess I'll call them right now and get them to process on the phone.
Why is there a separate thread for this? This was already posted in the Target/BB/CC uber thread.
And yes, it's for next week, so it's not supposed to work online right now.

It's a good deal, yes, but there's a reason there's an "uber" thread and it's to keep from cluttering the forums with all manner of deals from the weekly ads.
If the mods feel it deserves it's own thread, no worries, it will stay open.

The sale is for next week so you will not get the 500 points as that ends on the 21st. Also you might not be able to use Best Buy Bucks because it says that it can not be combined with any other offer/promotion.

Well, it's in the OP. No need to sort through anything really. Anyways no worries.
The page may have been brought online in error, since it appears the deal isn't supposed to start until Sunday.

I called a BB rep while ordering, explaining that the offer didn't work. She told me to go ahead and place the order all the way through and see if the discount ever appears. If it didn't, I should call back and see what they can do about it. Since I picked in-store pickup, I figured there was no risk. Of course it didn't take the $15 off, but when I called back and read the offer to the new rep verbatim, she agreed that I should be getting the discount and worked it out for me over the phone. So I was able to get the deal early I guess. I'm off to pick up my Dead Rising and 1600 points now. I'll post again to confirm that everything worked out smoothly.

I know they save money on having Indian tech support but it has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever. It is to the point where I cannot even call customer service anymore, which sucks because the point of customer service is to call and get help from someone.

Really? Too hard to sort through?????
Please tell me how I can make it clearer then.
You have a Video Game thread which covers Target / CC / Best Buy.
Anything that I feel GAMERS would be interested in, I highlight at the TOP of each section and sometimes also under specific games.
You also have a DVD / CD thread which works the same way.
I am more than willing to trying to make my threads clearer.
And the reason I do the combined threads was at the request of Cheapy D who wanted to keep CAG neat and uncluttered. My threads at DVDTalk are done by store and by DVDs / CDs / Video Games / PC games are rolled into a single thread by store. So they get 3 threads with everything and CAG gets 1 DVD/CD thread and one Video Game / PC game thread.
Please tell me what else I could do?

Pickup went off without a hitch. $47.23 with tax for Dead Rising and 1600 points. Didn't call the store, just got lucky with the rep I guess. The first woman (when I was trying to place the order) didn't sound like she would have helped me out. But the second was very nice. She said at first that it wouldn't let her credit the $15, but she canceled the order and re-placed it with the $15 discounted. If I would have had to try to haggle with the people in store, I wouldn't even have bothered. My BB is the one where they arrested the guy for paying in $2 bills.

Speedy,
You do an excellent job! It's kinda like the Dead Rising deal this week - sometimes, there may be a stand-out that deserves special notice.
I will admit that I don't always read the uberthread, because most of the time there is not much I am interested in, or sometimes I just skim it quickly looking for something in particular.
The DR and the 1600 points are more spotlighting deals than adding a "spotlight" section to the uberdeal thread to point them out. If Cheapy and the mods have no problem with that, I think that is a fair balance.

I think the "uber threads" are nice, but again, when there is a great deal that is jumbled with the rest of the "regular" prices it seems that it should have it's own thread. This thread about the marketplace points is perfect, because I always forget to look at the weekly updates since most of the retail stores have no deals worth noting. Thanks OP

I don't think standout deals need their own thread but if a deal is good enough to get its own separate thread every once in a while, I don't think it is a big deal.
I think this deal is an exception, since Best Buy has put it up on the website early, before the dates listed in the weekly thread. It doesn't seem to be working yet, but some people have already called and gotten it to work.
In defense of speedy (again), he does highlight what he believes are the standout deals in bold.
However, as long as this deal stays advertised online now and can be successfully haggled in-store as a result, I think this is a fair standalone thread since it's a week earlier than expected.
I'm still going to wait for Marvel UA to come out next week, though, since I already picked up Dead Rising earlier this week. It'll give me some time to plan out what I want from marketplace at least...

Even if the best deals are bolded, many times deals are combined with other deals, or have additional information, and I think it's kind of silly to expect people to watch those uber threads closely to see if any of that information is posted.

The rep that helped me out seemed to have no accent, but the first rep definitely had an indian accent. Either way, both were very friendly, helpful and quick. I was never on hold at any point for either call (not counting the auto-pickup machine). I just figured it was worth a try, but expected it not to work. I had no intentions of getting hostile if it didn't.

I printed out the webpage and took it into the store with me yesterday. I went straight to the customer service counter with it instead of trying the registers. Explained to them that I'd found this link, and tried to follow the instructions. I told them it wouldn't take the discount off if I tried instore pickup or delivery. They looked at it for a bit, and then promptly rung me up for Dead Rising at $39.99 and the points at $4.99. Wouldn't let me stack the McDonalds Best Buy Bucks or a GGC, but gave me no other trouble wringing it up. They checked the date on my printout, and since it had the current date, they took it.
Note: The computer needed a manager override due to the amount of the discount on the points. Since both a supervisor and the cashier were there for my explanation, I had no trouble.

I can't comment for the Outfit but Tomb Raider is decent and will take you about 20 hours to finish with all of the collecting. Graphics aren't really that good for next gen but are okay. I bought it for 25 a month ago from them so 30 is a decent price for it if you take the time to do everything in the game.

Tomb Raider is about a 8-10 hour game when you do all of the collecting. I played it a second time to get the Hardest Difficutly Achievemnet and that play through only took 2 and a hlaf hours.

Went to BB to get some other games including Dead Rising (which I wound up PMing at Wal-Mart -- long story and involves me getting a $10 GC from BestBuy for my trouble) and was stocking up on some GGC. Got 6 total today, and while I was getting them the one manager who sees me all of the time in there made a comment that I was stocking up as usual. She was training the seasonal help on cash registers. I had to go back in line to get a game and she was ringing the overflow customers. Figured I had a shot as I printed out the page from online. Explained I tried to order to have it shipped and in-store pick up and it wouldn't work. She said she would honor the deal so I went back grabbed the 360 game I wanted and the points and she manually adjusted the points down to $4.95. Saves me a trip to BB next week. :)

If I buy a game, with the $5 1600 points card--keep the game sealed--and return it. I don't have to return the points, do i?
WAJedi

Yes and no. The game and points card show up as a package price. If you return the game, they woudl take the difference out of that. Example: Say you buy Ridge Race for 20 and then get the points card for 5. You return Ridge Racer, you will only get 5 for it.

Why 5? So Ridge Racer + Points = $25 (plus tax)
Why would the game return be $5??

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it.
The only time the situation noted above has happened to me has been when I got a free gift card, at which time they deducted it from the total when I returned the item. I've never had problems returning things as part of a "package" at Best Buy, ever.

Have you tried returning stuff that is actually rang up as a package? Like with the little **** signifying the package? I believe the system automatically does this, but i'm not sure. I dont work Customer Service. If I was called up there as the Media rep, that's what i would tell the CS rep to do.

I just had Best Buy match the print out of the website that I had with the deal on it. Then, since it was a manual price override, just returned the game.
I think next week when the registers automatically adjust the price, you will not be able to return the game and keep the points for $4.99.
However, I also went to Circuit City with the printout, and they ended up pricematching the deal. Not only did I return the game no problem, but the points rang up at $3.49, because of the 110% pricematch policy.
So long story short, I effectively got 3200 points for $8.98+tax.
My advice, take the Best Buy ad that comes out tomorrow to Circuit City and have them pricematch, and if you don't want the game, just return it. The best part is that the points just ring up as game accesory, so they wont even know what it was you got for $3.49.

What's the better $30 game, Tomb Raider Legend or The Outfit?
Please consider everything, including price, value, graphics, replayability etc.
People were saying they were getting Tomb Raider Legend for $24.99 a couple weeks ago, ever since best buy had it on sale about a month ago. See this thread
http://cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110257&highlight=raider
If that still works it might be a good combo with the points and hopefully with the GGC. If the points automatically ring up as $4.99 with the game I think it will go smooth, if the cashier has to key in the points deal and the GGC I don't think it will go through.

You may have a point there but it all depends on if they charge you the full price of the game to pre-order online (Checked to see if it would work online and indeed it would work but they will charge you the full price of the game to Pre-order but you could pick the points up in-store and they would ship you the game when it came out if you keep the Pre-order). If you could actually do this in-store you could pre-order Gears of War (or any other 360 game they allow you to Pre-order) for 5 bucks then get the marketplace points for 5 bucks then just cancel Gears of War within the next 2 weeks and get a free t-shirt with the Pre-order.
Remember folks it states in the ad that if you purchase any Xbox 360 game you could get the points for 5 bucks.

I preordered Forza and the card, picked up the card and they only charged me $4.99 (+ tax). I'll wait a couple days and try to cancel the Forza preorder. Their site says that Forza is coming out on 11/16/06, which is a bunch of baloney. So even if I did this intending to keep the game, I would be pretty mad come 11/16 when they tell me it's going to be at least a few months before I can get the game. But what remains to be seen is will they charge me $15.00 when I cancel the preorder? Anyone? At this point there is no option to cancel the preorder directly online, I would need to call.

It sounds like the preorder plus card will work online, but can anyone confirm actually going into a store and getting a preorder like GOW plus the card without having to manually adust the price down to 4.99?
That would help those who have obstinate BBs that like to deny strange price matches. If it automatically comes up 4.99 with a GOW preorder as an in store walk in transaction and not an online pick up, then I think more people would ump on this.

Computer system automatically recognized the Gears of War preorder as a 360 game and rang up the points at $4.99. Also included the Package ****** notice.

I learned tonight to NEVER order a pre-order game with a debit card. They take the money out of your account and place it on hold until the game actually ships so it's basically like you're paying for it now. I learned that when I took a look at my checking account and saw a pending debit for the full amount of the order. grrrr. And of course I pre-ordered GTA IV for the 360 which isn't even due for a year.
All just to get some $4.99 points. :-x

Most stores do this when you preorder, however usually they are just "checking" your account for the funds. It will be pending for a few days and then will go away, but return when the game ships.

when you do the preorder GoW thing, it's $5 down (or do you have to pay full price down) for the preorder + $4.99 for the card, right?
you can just pay in cash for both right and not even worry about picking up your preorder, correct? so it'd be $9.99 for the GoW shirt + 1600 points
could you cancel the preorder and get your money back?

Shit, I've already bought two t-shirts with my debit card from best buy, does this mean I'll be charged for the game twice when it's released?
That sounds really really shady, if they can do that without telling you when you buy it. And the cashiers basically just think it is a game.

I think either ladwood just has a Debit card, w/o credit ability, or it is like msdmoney said Best Buy wants to make sure you have the funds. I was worried about there being a hold on my account, checked this morning and all there is is the $10.95 for the shirts. Also for all those debit/credit pre-orders you should do like me and just purchase the same amount again with cash and return them with the debit/credit receipt.

Here's a question: since the $5 GOW/t-shirt package seems to be the cheapest 360 "game" that one can use to get the $5 points card, do in-store Best Buy preorders act literally like $5 toward only that particular game, or could you later apply it as essentially a "credit" toward another game?

Ordinarily, you could exchange the $5 pre-order credit toward any other game but I'm not sure if that will change with GOW since with this pre-order they are giving you an incentive (the t-shirt).

That's what I am a little fuzzy on. The receipt certainly doesn't seem to indicate any sort of "bundle" from the looks of it. Even if the free t-shirt complicates things though, how about "storing" say $20 in in-store COD3 preorders for example, gettting all the cheap points this week, and later coming back to "re-claim" the $20 toward other games?

I think the pre-order for GoW is different than the one for GTA IV which I bought online. The GoW charges you $5 and gives you the t-shirt. I remember reading somewhere it said you had to bring back your receipt with the pre-order on it in order to pick up the game when it comes in. The GTA one online had no $5 incentive and just listed the full price of the game to be shipped when the game is released. My guess is you could buy as many GoW pre-orders in store as you'd like and unless you bring the receipt back showing you have a pre-order, you're not going to be charged anything more.
I was able to cancel my BB.com pre-order using my debit card and re-order it and the points on a regular CC. Lesson learned.

I would make sure to hang onto your receipt and keep the box for good measure.
For anyone who is doing this simply for the points card I have this to offer:
You can return the game without the points card, and BB will give you full credit for the game. I just did it.
For those who are thinking about the GoW preorder, not only do you get a t-shirt, but you also get a nice new Xbox 360 game case. I've seen some people selling these on eBay for a couple bux, but they are also good for replacing old stickered 360 game cases....

It was easy as hell returning to CC, because the two items aren't on a package deal at all... in the eyes of everyone at the store they have nothing to do with each other.
It was as easy as saying "Hi, I'd like to return this game" "Ok, here is your money" "Ok bye"
It's alot easier than dealing with some preorder bullshit at Best Buy and not knowing what the hell is going on and eating $5 on a preorder. I think I paid $3.50 per live card thanks to CC, and that's all I paid.
It's alot easier to return to CC, imo, then it is to BB, where the deal shows as a package and CSR has every right to not let you get your money back for the preorder or whatever.

Maybe it is because pre-ordering GoW and purchasing Mktplce points is cheaper. Granted some might not want to pre-order because of the uncertainty of cancelling it, but I asked before I did my transaction this afternoon and as long as the shirt is still wrapped it can be returned. Also scored 2 GoW Pre-orders w/ Mktplce points for $21.88 out the door. Thank you CAG, and the member who first posted this loop hole, you always seem to amaze me:)

It was a bit of a complicated process. The GGC took $5 off the 1600 MS Points at first and then after a few tries, the manager just price adjusted everything. It was all on the up & up, so he knew the computer didn't understand the transaction.

You were right about CC's returns, of course--smooth as silk and about as quick and easy as it gets. It took me all of a minute and a half to return the game I bought to get the $5 points card.
Unfortunately, getting them to do the price match took almost a half hour because the cashier didn't know how to do the promo (I tried explaining to her to just treat it like any other price match, but I guess the "buy a game and get the promo" part confused her). It was such a chore to get the price match, I didn't even bother to request for the extra 10% guarantee. I figured the additional info would have made her head explode and she wasn't too bad looking so I thought I'd leave it intact.
If it were easier to get the deal in the first place, I'd do it again, but I guess I'll have to happy I at least got the $5 points card without having to buy anything else.
I will still try to get the deal at BB when Marvel UA comes out, too.

Total 104.99 (113.76 with nyc tax)
That's not too bad, really. It's about $35 off what it would all cost retail, and with pickup and free shipping on GoW, it's pretty much done.
I'll probably be able to apply the $20 rebate to GoW as well, making this even cheaper.
Might be a good idea for other people who have their XBL membership almost up.

lol so weak RB6 is like the only game the MS offer doesnt work with
and pretty much the only game online that this works well with is GOW with the free ship .. but i plan to get that from my work the SEC its shipped to the store

The rebate expired in June of this year.

3 times now... screw this nonsense about $10 for a card, I'm more than happy paying $3.50 for one after the 110% CC PM and returning the game.
i ended up getting 2 $10 cards with 2 shirts and 2 cases. Its not too bad for those who dont have a CC near them. I was planning to drive by a town with a CC when i went to pick up my new HDTV(woot!) but then realized the gas it would take to return the game just isnt worth it.
So when i got to the line(cute cashier btw) ask "why is this game only $5", and i say "uh its a preorder". Thats all, they dont take down any info or anything lol, so much for a preorder? I went to TRU which is in the same plaza then did it again for another card.
$10 is still 50% off with no credit card hassle, a free t shirt, and no need to return a game(to a circuit city thats almost 30 minutes away >.<)
Good luck to everyone on this deal :) I might grab 2 more card before the week is over so that ill never need another again lol

What is Bestbuy's policy on Gift Returns without receipt? Because my copy of RR6 has a big yellow Bestbuy tag on the front of it. The reason I ask this is because my girlfriend bought this as a Sweetest Day gift for me and lost the receipt.
um i picked up kameo and got the 5$ microsoft points, and i asked if i could do the same with the GoW pre order and they said no, your buying a pre order for the gane, not the game itself.....sucks.
Also, i asked if i could pre order the SE, and they said they would be getting 20 in that day, so to call in the morning, and tell them you pre ordered one and they will hold it......
But when they rang up my stuff, no name, address, number take down, nothing...so......... how does this pre order thing work again for best buy? seems really fuckin sloppy....i have a pre order for the SE at GS but...yeah thats my backup.
If i ask for my money back on the pre-order, do i have to return the t shirt too lol.

big mistake. you don't ask them. you take the preorder shirt/game to the register and the points card and act none the wiser. The preorder rings up as a game, and unless the cashier is really really paying attention and second guesses the computer, it works fine.

I called earlier and asked the BB I bought 2 GoW pre-order t-shirt bundles at how it works and they said you have to bring in the receipt back in the day you come to pick up the game to get your $5.00 off. I then asked if my card will be billed the rest of the balance for the pre-orders when the games comes out and they flat out said no and I only would be billed the rest if I came back in and bought the game.
p.s.
I know most of us know this already but I have seen this asked a few times over and over in the thread.
p.s.s.
If you are still in doubt stop by an ATM and get some cash out and do it that way, then you can be sure they cant charge more when the game comes out.

Bah, i didnt ask the cashier, i asked the guy in the gaming dept.
Oh well, im going back to BB tomorrow to pick up saw 2 SE, so i guess i can pre order another gow and pick up more points for 5$? and when GoW comes out, i just ask for credit instead of buying the game? either way, another free shirt, and more points for the cheap.

Yep, this happened at one CC, I had to explain the promo to the guy for about 10 minutes before he figured out what I meant... he almost gave me the 360 for $5 but I re-explained it to him so he did it the right way.
The other stores read the ad and gave me the PM.
But I'm glad this idea helped someone else, props go to SteveQ (I think that's his name) for the idea, though.
SteveGo, but you were close ;). Yeah I just got 3 more today at CC, on the same reciept no less. Took the games back to a different CC that was on my way to work. Easy as Pie.

How preorders have worked for me at Best Buy B&M:
NOTE: Only applies to B&M! This means in-store. This does not mean website.
You will need a barcode to preorder something at Best Buy in the store. Usually this comes in the form of an empty case, a case with a bonus product, or a plastic or paper card. You take this item with a bar code to the cashier. The cashier scans this bar code. You pay whatever Best Buy requires as a preorder price. For GoW and CoD3 this is $5. You leave with a receipt, and possibly an empty case or case with bonus.
You wait until the item is released.
The Best Buy computer remembers how many of the bar code were sold. This number of the preordered product is held at customer service.
You return to pickup your preorder after the official release date. YOU MUST BRING YOUR RECEIPT! Do not lose it.
When you bring your receipt, they credit the amount you paid to preorder towards the price of the item you preordered. You then pay the remainder and leave with your item.
You will NOT automatically be billed for the remainder. THIS ONLY APPLIES IN STORE.
Specifics from my COD3 preoder box:
Customer Procedures:
Step 1: Present this deposit certificate to ANY cashier between 9-07-06 and 11-05-06.
Step 2: Pay the $5.00 deposit toward the purchase price of the game and obtain receipt for verification.
Step 3: Retain your RECEIPT verifying your paid deposit. TO OBTAIN CREDIT FOR THE DEPOSIT, YOUR RECEIPT MUST BE PRESENTED WHEN PICKING UP THE GAME.
Step 4: Return to store where deposit was made between 11-9-06 and 11-23-06. (Availability date is subject to change. Product will be held 2 weeks after arrival date.) Proceed to Customer Service. Present cashier with deposit receipt. Pay existing balance due on game.
Note: the $5 deposit is toward the purchase price of the game. All deposit certificates MUST be redeemed at Customer Service. Deposit certificate is not redeemable past the expiration date. If not redeemed by 11-23-06, the receipt may be refunded at Customer Service. No photocopies or facsimilies of receipt or certificate will be accepted. Release date subject to change. Redeemable only at the Best Buy retail store location where deposit was placed.
It goes on a bit more with legal jargon.
Edited with all important disclaimer: YMMV. Try at your own risk, blah blah.

Whats the trick when Marvel Ultimate Alliance comes out? I maybe lost but all I know is that you get the MS points for 4.99 with a game purchase I don't know anything else. I pmed at CC and there was no problems. Can someone tell me how you get the GOW t-shirt? Do they hold them behind the register?

What happens with the pre-order though? They just hand you a t-shirt when you pre-order or is that the day you buy the game?

HOLD ON! SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND I SHALL GIVE YOU A BLUE BERRY COOKIE!
I go to Best Buy, get the GoW Pre-Order shirt thingy with the 1600 points and that will cost $10 total?
The GoW Pre-Order rings up as an actual game correct?
And can I return multiple GoW Pre-Orders? (and keeping the 1600 points)
Btw, is there any shirts smaller than XL? (if not, is it possible to shrink the shirt?)
Thanks in advance!

According to previous posts:
yes it will cost you 10 and some change
yes the GOW preorder(in store) is considered an actual game for the purposes of this deal.
yes you can return the game preorder ( keep your receipt) and keep your 1600 points.
All shirts come in xl

The shirt is folded up in a package with an empty 360 game case with the GoW cover on it. It looks like a regular game from the front. They are usually right with all the other 360 games.
Well, thanks to the Play-Asia deal on Marvel UA (yay Cheapy for headlining this), I'm probably going to go ahead and do the GoW pre-order shirt/points card combo instead. There was only a couple of cards left at CC, so I just did one there and left the other for someone else.

i really doubt you'll be able to return the gow preorders and still keep the points, but if it works that would be interesting.
