Random Internet Dude? I am far from that. I have the BigBook and have had it since last week. I work for TRU in the midwest and I have posted info on here that is always true. I run an Rzone(Electronics Dept). I am dreading the 29th. It will be so much fun to walk outside, pick the first couple of people in line, and then tell the rest if you are here for PS3 you are out of luck....If you are here for a Wii preorder it may take some time but you will get one today.....As I said before I have the scans ready to post. I am just waiting for confirmation that the BigBooks have been mailed to the guests that will be getting them early. For those that doubt me-when you get your BigBook-page 64 is the Wii preorder...the Gamecube bundle is right next to it and the GBA bundle is on the next page. The PS3 preorder is on page 66 right next to the Xbox 360 and under it are the Pyramat Sound Booster Chairs. On the next page is the Free Dance Mat offer. Any other questions???????-Never doubt my credibility-By the way BigBook is 72 pages this year including the back cover....Once I can post those scans I will be happy to tell any Midwest Cagers to see me at my store on the 29th...

At the same time, a little implausible given the # of EB/GS preorders. Unless of course they're planning on alloting several units for walk-in purchase.

Has anybody got a clue? Gamestop was allocated more than just 54,000. Wait a few more days and now that the accessories and games have been priced and announced, watch the ungodly expensive bundles start to pop up. TRU is no different. TRU.com will have bundles available shortly as well...Remember Gamestop and Gamestop.com are separate entities and their allocations are separate...Remember last year all of those preorders the stores could not fill but if you looked online the website had all kinds of bundles available? Same scenario this time around...

But many EB/Gamestop stores from what I saw got anywhere from 8-16 units each. (Two of my nearest stores got 14 and 16.) That makes it seem a little odd that a bigger presence such as TRU would have less per store. Of course I could be missing something.

Same here, being 8 out of 16 on the Ebgames preorder list at my store makes me nervous. If their allotment gets cut I would be right at the bubble of not getting one and if I do get one but my brother doesn't I will give my preorder to my brother since I owe it to him. A backup plan will make me rest easier about launch.

ok, so the question now is how long before opening time should one get in line for the PS3 assuming they don't open before they are supposed.
Also which PS3 to Pre-Order the 20GB one or 60GB one? which would you order?
tubtub
10-20-2006, 03:05 PM
Its up to the store whether to take preorders. There was a notice store managers received that said it is up to individual stores whether they will take reserves due to the limited nature of the system. I know of 1 store in my area that will not be doing reserves at all at the store managers discretion. I know some may not believe me, but I can confirm this 100%...check my past history of posting. So call before you head to the store next week.

Go for the 60gb if you have a choice. 20gb is not enough HD space for storing demos/trailers/videos/etc. (as many xbox360 owners can attest to). The bonus memory card reader on the premium system is another bonus, but not too essential. Lastly, you receive a HDMI cable w/ the premium system ($50 value according to Sony....right). I'm still a bit confused with the wifi/bluetooth thingie....are they available in both packages? Good luck!

Tubtub, I spoke with my DM and because they put it in BigBook he said that all stores were going to have to do some kind of presell. My director did not get any kind of email of that nature. That may be a region specific thing. It will do no good calling any store because, except for management, nobody knows the details until we tell them, which we have not as of yet....I sincerely hope someone gets smart and pulls the presell...

Nothing official and I don't think sren has either. The store manager seems to think for some reason we'll be allowed to do somewhere around 40-70 presells.

So after reading this thread, I'm new here. I infered that the PS3 and Wii are going to be pre-ordered on the same day (Oct. 29th), at all TRU. There will be few PS3's but more Wii's. But I'm only interested in Wii, so what time do you think I should get there to be guaranteed one? Thanks in advance.

I seems like there will be plenty of Wii preorders at each location. You should be able to get one anytime on the 29th it seems.

Ok thanks but I found it myself once I actually decided to look myself, but what I found is that on Sunday's is they open at 11 so I guess we will just wait and see if it's 8 or 11. Or were you saying that they do open early on the 29th at 8?

The Wii.
There was no listed projection for the PS3 from what I've read so far.
My Intel states that PS3 allocations per store might come in at 10 - 15 units depending upon market.

After Sony's announcement that just cut PS3 numbers again I can safely say we will be lucky to see 10-15 per store before Christmas...

This is my first post. Sorry if this has already been covered, but I was curious about what time do you think I should get to my Toys R Us to get a PS3 preorder? I live in little Albuquerque, and I don't think that the majority of the people will know anything about this presell with the Toys R Us ad coming out that morning and all. Do you think the lines will be as crazy as launch day lines? I'm thinking about getting there at midnight.
One more thing. If I decided to get a Wii also, would there be a problem with preordering both or is the perorder only for one or the other?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hey I am from St. Louis and I was wondering how many Wii pre-orders will be available approximately per store. Even if they are not concrete numbers I will not get my hopes up I am just wondering if you have that information right now. Thank you.
Edit: Oh and will we have to buy a bundle if we pre-order the Wii or can we just pre-order it the way we want?

They had already been scanned and posted so I did not bother to. We do not know anything more than what has already been posted in this thread. Can you get both? We do not know. How many preorders? We do not know. One change on store open times. Midwest region will now open @9am. If you are camping remember you will be out there an extra hour due to daylight savings time...Also if you stand outside all night, do not be upset if the director walks outside with two preorder tickets, hands them to the first two guests who want PS3s, and says that is it...this will be reality on Sunday..

Depending how TRU runs the pre-order. I.e. I can just pick up my system once the store opens, say 1-2 hours later (lol) I will be outside TRU 12-15 hours depending. However, I'm up in Pittsburgh PA and its already cold and getting colder. 10 day forcast suggest rain/snow/sleet for 29th, but that is 7 days away, it may change. However if that holds true, I may only be there 8 hours before hand as I predict many will not wait.
Although, I will scope the place out at 15, 12 and 9 hour markers waiting to see if anyone is there.

Or 1-2 I read somewhere else. I just dread the cold weather. Just checked again Rain/Snow showers, low 38. Yes, 38. I already plan to wait at Best Buy and would rather only wait once. I'll shoot myself if I wait at TRU and I do not get a Pre-order or *something goes wrong*.
Anywho, 12 hours beforehand for me. It really just depends on your location and demand for it.
At Best buy for the 360, I was outside for 15 hours before hand (people started lining up at 2pm, I got their at 6pm, was 17th in line).
It really just depends.

This year it'll be Dora the Explorer or her friend Diego. You can get one for about $5 after $75 purchase. Kinda wierd this time around, usually they're animals of some sort (ex. Simba & Nala, Shrek & Donkey, etc.)
Also, the Elmo TMX is featured in the ad. So each store should get a shipment of them. Mine will have a good amount available.

what is the word or the policy on TRU employees purchasing the ps3 units that do come in? say only 5 are allocated at a store. do the employees get to have dibs on those before the general public does? if they can, i'm not sure what the point will be at all to showing up as i'm sure the employees will snatch them up first...

If TRU is like every other retailer I've worked at, employees would got to the back of the pre-order list and would get theirs only after customers on that list were satisfied.

sren9, theres a conference call Wednesday concerning PS3 preorders and the big book. Have you heard anything else about it? One store manager has told me they are announcing no PS3 preorders due to the limited quantities. He even hand printed some signs saying that unfortunately they won't be honoring presells because it was an error in the ad. My store manager says all questions will be answered on Wednesday, though. Hopefully this turns out true.

Yeah thats correct, couldn't remember the details of that promo. My store will have about 128 Elmos.
For the 360 preorders, none of the TRU employees were allowed to get one unless they waited in line with other customers. Even the store director had to wait for the second shipment to get his. It'll probably be the same for the PS3.

I wanna get an Elmo TMX for my little cousin. She's grown out of Dora but that Elmo is pretty awesome, she might like it. Normally I wouldn't get my younger cousins this kind of stuff but I wouldn't mind giving her that as she's my favorite. Then again, I don't want to have to put up with all those soccer moms kicking and screaming for one- maybe I should get her some kids game instead...:-k
Does Elmo also go on sale on the 29th? Or what?
If yes, then that's a lot of work for me... I have to pick up an Elmo and preorder a Wii for myself and a PS3 for my bro (he has to work on that day). Fuck!

I had my conference call today. There will be PS3 preorders as of right now. The BigBook is getting turned on Friday. Midwest region will be open from 9a-7p. There will be 0 employee preorders for PS3 but we can preorder the Wii. I have another conference call on Thursday in case something changes. As always, CAGers will be the first to know.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does it mean when you state that the Big Book is "getting turned on Friday"? Does that mean that all the deals except for preordering PS3 and Wii and Elmo TMX will be in effect? Sorry, just not familiar with the jargon. . . but if you could explain it, I'd appreciate it! Thx.

As of right now they will be taking preorders on 10/29. They may change their minds.
Wait so are TRU's opening at 9 am on the 29th for preorders? I know mine normally opens at 11am so this would be an early opening. The later they open the better for me but it prolly helps some people out who work.

All pre-orders, whether system or games, are held for 2 WEEKS.
When I worked launch for 360, I had people who were out of town for a while following launch, and I had their 360 on pre-order for two weeks. Just make sure you keep your receipt and product slip stapled together because you will be asked for both.

I just called my local store, and they said that they are not taking preorders on Sunday. The guy told me, "For some reason our manager said we aren't taking preorders for the Wii or the PS3." When I asked if that could change in the next few days, he said "maybe." Like someone stated earlier, they are either playing dumb or the preorder isn't a corporation-wide edict. The guy didn't sound like he was yanking my chain, but maybe the manager is lying to him??? I'm confused at this point.

eveyone is playing dumb because the Big Book hasn't broken yet. they are not supposed to disclose any information on an Ad that hasn't even come out yet. so don't be surprised if no one says anything, or if information contradicts ones on these boards.
the OP has already stated pretty much all TRU's are doing this, and even broke the Ad out really early (thanks OP), so why even call your local TRU?
I can't wait until Sunday, I'm sick of answering calls about both systems.

I just don't want to camp out and they not be doing any PS3 preorders. Thats why I'm wondering if TRU has to honor the BigBook coupon. I personally believe the two TRU in my area have cluless staff and managers. They never know anything about the newest games, sales, or game related news. For instance, the head "guy" at one of the R'Zone hasn't had a gaming system since the NES.

I've called a couple TRU stores in my area, both said that they aren't doing pre sales, even though the TRU site and the Big Toy Book says they will. My initial call in the morning, the Customer Service said they would but when I called back a hour later, they changed their tone. When I asked to speak to complain to the management about false advertising the manager said they would be sometime next week. So I dunno, extremely confused. Don't see the point of playing dumb when it plainly says they are doing pre sales on the website and to visit the stores.

I just called my Toys R Us and got some interesting news. They said that they would not be doing "first come first served" preorders. Instead, they would be taking everyone's name who was there and putting it in a bucket and then doing a sort of "lottery." If your name is picked, you get to choose which system you want to order. He said it was to prevent people from camping out (this info will be posted outside the store) and to allow everyone a fair chance.
They said they would only be getting 3 60GB PS3s, 1 20GB, and 10 Wiis for preorder. He said a lot of people had been asking about the PS3. My store will be opening at 9, even though they normally open at 11, so if you plan on going make sure you double check the opening time.

That would cause a riot over just a camp-out.
When I camped out for the 360, everyone in line talked with everyone else. It made sort of a bond among all of us, and since we knew the exact number of 360s they had, we told people who came late they could hope they get in a few extras, but it would be easier to check a different store. If 15+ people in line can vouch for each other, it easily prevents a riot.
If there's people camped out for this BS "lottery", I can see a LOT of people who camped out or got in line early getting angry over the fact that people who show up 5 mintues after the store opens have the same priority as those who slept in the cold for 5 hours. I would be one of those.

The closer this gets... the more I think that this isn't going to be a pretty holiday season. Two huge launches and both of them looking to be highly under supplied (especially the PS3).
This is going to suck for me... I have to somehow get a Elmo TMX and preorder a Wii in a huge college campus so I'll have to put up with a very large population of young gamers with money/credit cards. I told my brother that I couldn't handle the PS3 preorder and that he should try and get a friend to do it.

Here's some PS3 Preorder info I got for you CAGs in Northern California around the Bay Area (please keep in mind this is all from what I was told on the phone, these are estimates from the store):
Hayward - No information on how many, first come, first serve
San Mateo - 20-30, first come, first serve (security will be watching for campers, very strict on this)
Pinole - 6, first come, first serve (camping allowed)
Pleasant Hill - No information on how many, first come, first serve
Dublin - 6, first come, first serve (camping allowed)
Redwood City - No information on how many, first come, first serve

When our Gamestop did preorders for the PS3 last week, it took them a full 15 minutes after opening to sell out, so I'm hoping it will be the same here at our Toys R Us.

update now at my TRU here in bakersfield the line is mad crazy and people have signs to show what they are waiting for. Wii or PS3. I think I'll drop by around 6am and see how it is, i really don't wanna wait in line like those people are, bunch of retards if I must say just for a preorder. Imagine the lines for the PS3 on launch good luck with that.

Atlanta Folks:
5 people in Alpharetta, 3 people in Kennesaw. Tucker and Buckhead are NOT allowing lines and will call the cops for loitering. How do you all recommend trying to get in on the pre-orders in Tucker and Buckhead?

If there's people camped out for this BS "lottery", I can see a LOT of people who camped out or got in line early getting angry over the fact that people who show up 5 mintues after the store opens have the same priority as those who slept in the cold for 5 hours. I would be one of those.
If they have a lottery, I suspect they would, at the very least, post a sign the night before saying so. At that point, if you still insist on camping out all night, you're an idiot.
I guess all of the locations that are saying "no camping" are planning on holding lotteries.

Dunno. When I called the Tucker location yesterday, she did not know the allocation and said it would be first come, first served. However, she wasn't RZone manager. It could be that Buckhead and Tucker will be doing lotteries. I'll drive by after the Halloween party I'm going to tonight and see if there's anyone there. But I guess I'll just stick to my original plan of getting there bright and early tomorrow.
