Thing is, I never see Oink anywhere but here, and, based on peoples tastes here, I simply said I doubt that Oink caters to anything outside of semi popular stuff. I was wrong in that regard.

i downloaded the new record to give it a try, so i skimmed through it and it's really not as bad as i thought it would be. i mean, i don't think it should be in any "best of" lists for 2006, but i don't see why fans of the band would be bummed out.
as far as the new deftones goes, i like it a lot. i mean, it's not exactly "around the fur", but that's ok with me. plus i like giant drag, so i was down with annie hardy being on "pink cellphone", even though a lot of people seem to hate that song. then again, i thought the self titled record was good too, and a lot of people hate that one.
and generally speaking, since the thread kind of changed topics halfway through, it's cool if you (being the reader) like obscure stuff, and it's cool if you want to try to turn people on to stuff you think they may not know of, but, as the band mclusky once sang, "obscurity is not a fucking badge". but i guess mykevermin said it before me, probably better, and with far more conviction.
oink is really great, by the way. there's stuff on there i could never find on soulseek, and since they are torrents the downloads usually go much, much faster than a general peer to peer program.

I think it relies more on your ISP than the site you use as far as security goes. I know my ISP, Cox, does not reveal it's users name or where-abouts so I'm fine :D.

i could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that unless they (being the riaa or anyone else that wants to get you in trouble) are in on the torrent they can't tell what torrents you are running. so it seems to me that private trackers are inherently safer than public trackers, since only a selected group (those who were invited) can tap into the torrents on a private tracker. plus, there's a really wide range of torrents on the site and the ratio requirements ensure that people will seed what they download.
