Top 10 RPGs and Top 5 Series

Hey would you all like to give your opinion on your top 10 RPGs, and also your top 5 SERIES, meaning you can't put KH1 and KH2. I'd kinda like to know in the future for what games are "good" so I can keep an eye out for em.

Oh just PS2 :P Well unless there is some really really really good PSOne RPG with GOOD graphics, since I can't play bad graphics games anymore...like FFIX I found the graphics alright so anything like that or at that level is ok.

I haven't played alot of RPG's on PS2 yet but here's my top 10:
1. Dragon Quest 8
2. FFXII (cant wait for this one)
3. Kingdom Hearts
4. FFX
5. Champions of Norrath
6. Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
7. Dark Cloud 2
8. X-men Legends 2
9. Rogue Galaxy (putting this game in because of the kick ass trailers for it).
10. Star Ocean: TTOFT

I didn't like most of the RPGs I playedo n PS2.

With that said, Dragon Quest VIII is one of the best RPGs I've played on any system.

In order of preference:

kingdom hearts
dark cloud 2
grandia xtreme
dragon warrior 8(still can't believe how much I'm enjoying this game)
ffx
shadow hearts(just the 1st one)

Those are all the rpgs that I've enjoyed and would recommend for the PS2. The games that I haven't played yet that I am pretty sure I will like(in order of preference):

- Tales of the abyss
- tales of legendia
- Kingdom hearts 2
- grandia 3

And then of course thereare the other rpgs that I am interested in but am not sure what to think of them yet(in no particular order):

- ff12
- Nocturne
- Devil Summoner
- Persona 3
- Valkyrie profile 2
- Phantasy star universe
- Suikoden 5
- rogue galaxy

And as far as series ... really I can only think of the ones that I like to avoid. And that would be ...

xenosaga
saga games

but if it's a tales game, a grandia game, or a level 5 game, I automatically become interested in it.

That's the same problem I had.
Playstation pumped out WAY too many FF games. I never really enjoyed the FF series too much if at all. 7 was pretty much the only one worth playing for me, after that RPG's seemed to be ruined by the shadow of FF fans.

Dark Cloud 2 was the only one I would have picked for PS2.

I just love it. Its battle system is fairly simplistic but very good to use. Good sidequests, good story, interesting characters.

If you look at almost every RPG after FF what do you see. The same FF type battle structure over and over again even in games that have nothing to do with the FF series... it all seems the same. Anything stepping OUT of the FF combat mold is usually pushed aside and complained about.

Why? Because it's not Final Fantasy. People piss and moan about other RPGs not being good enough, so they all try to clone FF to make people happy.

The same thing is starting to happen to action adventure games now. Everything has to be a free roaming living 3D world you have to run around in. That's thanks to the GTA games. So now we have countless GTA clones and FF clones being pumped out every year. Not that FF or GTA are "bad", but when it starts to leak into other games it starts to get repedative & boring.

Nice elaboration and I'd agree to a certain extent.

The main reason I have FFX on my list is because I was interested in the story and I liked the sphere grid. Pretty much the same with Shadow hearts, cept replace the grid with the ring of judgement. But if you don't like the story, then you are just out of luck (see SH Covenant, for me anyway).

But I do think there are quite a few games that get away from the ff combat mold(about half my list are action rpgs). I personally view turn based combat as a negative now, but not a negative that can't be overcome. Which is why I was so surprised with Dragon Quest 8.

lol I've been gaming for ... 11? years and I haven't played a difficult game yet so I think I'm above padawan :P, anyway ya...when I get games I'm usually addicted and want to play 24/7. I've learned to ease off though =P
