I was at the Schaumburg, IL TRU yesterday and I was looking through their $7.99 PS1 & PS2 games bin, and I found Sly Cooper for $7.99. Didnt really see anything else that was interesting, but you might want to check it out.

Sweet, I've heard good things about that game.

This one is TOTALLY YMMV. My Toys R Us has had the discount bin forever, but it's NEVER had Sly Cooper in it. Just giving a head's up...

Just go buy Sly anyway. That game is so good that you'll be getting a bargain no matter what you pay!

Well, you might want to price check it even if its not in the bin. When I purchased it, it rang up for $19.99 but the cashier told me that once he hits the total key, it changes it to $7.99

yeah, i was in toys r us yesterday and all they had were about 30 copies of Clubworld and a TON of Mad Maestro.

A 7.99 Sly Cooper would be heavenly. The game is short but extremely fun.

Sly was a really really fun game, just a bit too short.

I think it was hurt pretty bad (sales wise) by it's cover; it was super stylish, and just had Cooper's mask on the front, so it was just black and blue. The GH version, they completely redid the cover to show Sly, and a small scene. You can get away w/ just showing a mask, but only if it's Spiderman or something.

I actually think the original cover is much better. I think if anything, the crazy name hurt its sales.

I think sometimes game makers are unlucky and great games go unbought. Luckily these are big companies, someone like Ubisoft can take a hit (see PoP and BG&E) as long as they sell their even bigger names well (see SC:PT)

I got Sly from TRU weeks ago when this sale started... they had a few copies, in the flimsy plastic cases like the other sale games. It rang up as $7.99 without incident.

I posted it in my list of what I got from the sale (Sly, Stuntman, Gran Turismo A-Spec, Spy Hunter, Hitman 2) but I guess I should've made a bigger deal out of it. :)

Hopefully the sequel will sell a stack of units. I loved the first one (despite its extreme shortness) - even hunted down the cooler non-GH cover, though I've oddly seen some GH editions with the original cover.

The early GH versions are original copies of the game with a red GH sticker over the case that peels right off. The new covers are the actual new print run. I guess they had enough in the warehouse to make the first GH shipments without a reprint, so they stickered them.

Hopefully this will be in the bargain bin at my TRU now.

I played the E3 demo and it was freakin' sweet!!!

Hmmm...no luck at my local TRU....rang up at $19.99. :(

The non-GH cover looks a lot better than the GH cover, imo. I got the game once it became a GH and coincedentally (sp?) got one of the non-GH covers with the red GH sticker on the plastic.

I usually don't give a damn about having a GH or non-GH copy, but in this case, I'm glad I got a non-GH copy.

They had a bunch of them at my toys r us last night and unfortunately it rang up at 19.99 though I tried to claim I found it in the 7.99 bin. Oh well....

Did you have the cashier hit the total button?

When I bought mine it rang up as $19.99 also but the cashier said once he hits total it adjusts to $7.99+tax

The game MUST be in the flexible soft-plastic security case for it to ring up at $7.99. They get restickered UPCs when they're put in those cases. If you find Sly (or any of the other Value Games) in a hard plastic case, with the original UPC sticker showing through, there's no telling how much it'll cost.

I just got back from TRU and I had no luck. The game was in the hard plastic case with the restickered UPC on the back and it still rang up at $19.99. I had the guy press total and everything. He said that there were 3 copies in the bargain bin that rang up at $7.99 but they were gone. THis makes no freaking sense - 2 different prices for the same game in the same store. The cashier wasn't that friendly so it's not like he tried to hook me up or anything. So stupid...

Damn, thats so F****'d up! If he knew that he sold some for 7.99 why wouldnt he do it.

(Maybe its only for the ones that have the Greatest Hits (red) sticker on the front?)

Nope - the one I tried was a GH copy...

Well I meant maybe the one thats $7.99 is the one with the sticker. Thats the one I bought.

My TRU had it for $20, i didn't try having them completely ring it up, though.

Again, nothing to do with the GH label, or the "Value!" sticker. All that matters is the soft plastic security case... those come with special UPC stickers.

It just seems insane that the same store can have two copies of the same game and sell one for $8 and the other for $20...

I think Chess is right. The only games that are $7.99 are the ones in soft plastic. Anything in hard plastic appears to be the price as is.

Interestingly enough, I stopped by the Times Square TRU today... I saw that they'd actually finally posted a sign saying "All PS1 and PS2 Value Software $7.99 (regularly 19.99) until 7/24." It didn't say anything about restrictions, so I dug through the stacks of Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter and Twisted Metal Black to find ones with the stickers (but in the regular hard plastic cases). I took all three up, and they rang up at full prices. I said, "aren't those $7.99?" The clerk turned around to ask her coworker/superior, and he said, "any of them with the sticker are $7.99." So she corrected them, and I was happy. My receipt says I saved $38.

So basically, the sale's still going on, and if you get lucky, someone will obey the letter of the sign and not just depend on the computer to make the distinction. This was my second try at this location, after two attempts at another. I don't tend to press the issue, just see how it rings up, ask about the sale, and go with whatever they say from there.
