View Full Version : Does anyone else have trouble with the Castlevania games?

I'm playing through Harmony of Dissonance right now, and I'm really enjoying it.

Yet the exploration is holding me from really liking the game. I really can't seem to figure out where to go since there's aboslutely no direction, and when I do figure it out, it seems to be out of pure luck. GameFAQs doesn't really help since you have to follow the FAQs religiously in order to keep up with them. The user-created maps aren't all that helpful either, since I don't really know what I need or what comes next. All I know is that I've beaten quite a few bosses.

I'm not really asking for help, I know I'll figure it out sooner or later. I'm just curious if anyone else finds themselves lost in the Castlevania (or even the Metroid) games, and if it gets any easier when you play more of them.

Yeah, that's Harmony of Dissonance for you. I stopped playing it for partly that reason. Most other CV games give you a smidge better direction. SotN, AoS, and DoS usually do. Heck, it is hard not to know where to go in DoS.

Getting lost is the best part of those games... I remember exploring underwater in Metroid Prime, having no clue if it was the right place to be, until I found the gravity suit.

As long as you aren't running into dead ends, just relax and explore.

Or, like I did in HoD, realize you just spent the last half hour crawling through the castle only to find a dead end and thus you'll have to double back that same distance, and go find a game with less crap for music.
