This is probably old news, but after pre-ordering a PS3 from EB, I got a call from them about a week and a half later telling me that Sony would be bundling "Talladega Nights" on Blu-Ray with the PS3's. It's the only included disc or game announced so far, but it's better than nothing.

I think this is only for the first 500,000 PS3s.

Well there has to be something better than Talladega Nights.

Hell, ANYTHING would have been better.

why do they put a comedy as the pack in, they should do what MS is doing, and put in something that can really show off the hardware. I think star wars episode 3 would be cool.

1. This system will be sold to people under 18. They can't 'give away' an UNRATED version.
2. There will be no special features on this as this is a special pressing (the other version will be UNRATED with special features).

...and a free $30 upgraded remote. Sony will be charging $24.99 for that one.

OCT. 20 | Sony Computer Entertainment is hoping to rev up sales for PlayStation 3 by bundling the Blu-ray Disc edition of NASCAR spoof Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby with the console.

During a PS3 press event Thursday, Sony officials said the first 500,000 PS3 units will include Talladega discs. The PS3 bows in the U.S. on Nov. 17.

To not compete with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s bow a month later of Talladega on standard-definition DVD and Blu-ray, the PS3 version will not contain any bonus features. Additionally, the PS3 Talladega will be the film’s theatrical version only.

A fully loaded, unrated Blu-ray edition of Talladega will be available on Dec. 12.

Blu-ray backers tout to PS3’s ability to play Blu-ray discs as an advantage the high-definition format has over competing HD

DVD. But the restricted launch quanties of PS3 have tempered some of the initital expectations of its consumer impact.

Sony hopes adding summer blockbuster Talledega, which grossed about $150 million in the U.S., will provide some needed excitement for both PS3 and Blu-ray.

“The main thrust of the promotion is to make sure we have the message embedded in the first wave of consumers who purchase PS3 that this is not just a gaming device--that it’s movie playback too,” Sony home entertainment president David Bishop said.

Bishop added that retailers are likely to participate in “soft bundling” with PS3, offering coupons for further purchased of Blu-ray titles.

“That will drive consumers back into stores to buy more Blu-ray" titles, Bishop said.

Sony’s Talladega move mimicks the company’s decision to pack early shipments of PlayStation Portable with the UMD edition of Spider-Man 2.

-------
Rumor has it this is not going to even be on a 'superior' BD-50 discs...Something Sony has been touting as the 'end of HD-DVD'. Sadly Click didn't even look as good as some sub-par HD-DVDs.

I REALLY don't think after waiting in line for 20 hours and spending $700 on a system and a game that someone is gonna say 'hmmm...I really want to spend $35 on Fifth Element!". Then realize "Damn...I need to buy some $30 component cables or $50 HDMI cable".

Unless they bundle in coupons that bring the price of a movie down to the average prices of DVD's, I won't buy too many blu-ray movies at first. I can wait until the format war is over. I haven't been able to compare HD-DVD to BRD, but I've read that HD-DVD has the edge in picture quality.

As for the free Talladega Nights, I could care less about it. I'll end up just throwing it on eBay.

And if people are saying "Damn...I need to buy some $30 component cables or $50 HDMI cable".. they need to wake up and buy a cable for $6.

Yes, cables are available for cheap. I just picked up two HDMI cables for $12 shipped. However not EVERYONE knows this and will think the normal $50 Best Buy Price is normal.

Sadly I think alot of Tallegegas will end up on eBay...not a good sign.

Not so true, often times an "unrated" version can be almost a completely different, and better movie. For all we know the movie could have originally received an R rating, and multiple funny scenes were cut to make it PG-13. Then again, who really cares because this movie sucked ass anyway.

Actually edit button would do the trick. Dont want to turn this to a flame war but most message boards claim that post made without anyone else posting in between(unless its been 24 hours or something) is considered spam. 3 post in a row is kinda spam no matter how you look at it.

As for this Blu-Ray pack in, EB left me a voice mail to tell me this, for some reason i never even heard of the movie.

Well, of course HD-DVD is selling better for now. The stand alone blu ray players are twice the price then the HD DVD ones so they are selling better, but once there are 400,000 extra blu ray players sold on 11-17 that could change quickly.

Wait? When did HD get better studio support than Blu-ray? I thought HD only had 1 exclusive (universal) and a few for blu-ray and HD (Warner and paramount I think) where as Blu-ray had like everyone except universal making movies for them.

Look at the MOVIE STUDIO SUPPORT.

The only exclusive HD has right now is Universal.
The only exclusive Sony has is itself, Disney, LionsGate, and Fox.
The last three will be going NEUTRAL and releasing movies for HD.

So every PS3 owner is gong to buy Blu-Ray movies to compliment there Composite cables? C'mon. If you're buyng a 360 Add-on you WILL be buying HD movies. If you are buying a PS3 there is a CHANCE you will buy Blu-Ray movies.

Thats like saying if you buy a Boombox with a CD Player/Cassette player then cassette sales will skyrocket just because there is a casette option. Not true.
However if you buy a Cassette player then you WILL be buying cassettes for it (Yeah, way dated I know).

can you post some sales numbers of HD dvd? How is HD DVD better quality when until just recently it couldn't even broadcast in 1080p? Have you lost your fucking mind? Your starting to sound like DADDY, the most hated CAG user ever. Oh and I promise that the majority of people dropping $600 on a PS3 understand that composite doesn't play HD, your treating people like they're retards. Oh little man. If you'd understand it isnt just about movie support. But company support as well. IF you have the big-wigs tailoring their products for Blu-Ray then that gives a big leap in the market.
IF its easier to find a Blu-ray player then an HDVD player, well then you're going to go with Blu-ray.

We could play this game over and over again but like most Sony fanboys they will never admit Sony did any wrong. Check Amazon.com. Look at the HIGHEST ranking HD disc and the highest ranking BR title.

Right now out of the DVD section MI3 is ranked #86 on HD. Right now MI3 on BR is ranked #1393 (Which is one of the highest EVER for BR). Next up is the MI boxset for HD ranked at #120. BR second is Black Hawk Down at #2792. Care to go on?

The average sales rank of an HD title is #482 while BR is at #4,104.

How many HD titles have acheived a sales rank of 1000 or lower? 10
Blu-Ray? 0! 0 titles have EVER reached a sales ran of 1000 or lower.

Please tell me how Blu-Ray is going to be #1 in this format war.

HD and Blu-Ray launched 3-4 months apart. The retail price of the HD-A1 was $500. The retail of the Samsung BR was $1000. The second Blu-Ray player just arrived with a MSRP of $1300 whle the Sony player has been delayed AGAIN. Sony can't even get their own Blu-Ray machine out. But its Sony, so of course the official 'launch' does not start until they want it to.

Sony promises things like the 'HD Killer' BR50 disc. The first movie to use this was 'Click' which was only substandard compared to titles like Aeon Flux, Batman Begins, and even a launch title like Serenity. Do us a favor and check out 'Fifth Element' on BR, which was a launch title. Poor, Poor quality.

I was a BR supporter at one point but HD just kicked ass. PS3 will help flagging BR sales but only for a while. Once the 'OMG! My PS3 plays the next generation discs!' hype ends, so will BR.

One more thing, not everyone will know that to actually see BR as it is intended to be seen will require HDMI, or at the very least component, but you would be surprised how many idiots there are. I couldn't tell you how many people cracked open UMD discs thinking they actual disc should be taken out of its shell. I am just waiting for someone to make an image of an old 27" SD TV with a PS3 next to it hooked up with an RF cable and two kids screaming "Awesome!"

Need anything else

Which is who? That little picture that was so proudly posted is so damn out of date its not even funny. There are way to many studios considering switching over or going neutral at this point. Why sell 1,000 BR copies of X-Men III when you can sell 10,000 to HD fans? Its all about the money. Fox and Disney so proudly supported Divx until the very end, and guess what, they released on DVD as well.

Spending $200 on a 360 add-on guarantees that the customer WILL be buying HD discs. Spending $600 on a PS3 does NOT guarantee a Blu-Ray sale from that customer at all.
