In addition to saving your game and saving future download contents, the hard disk is used for speeding up gameplay. The game does a hard disk install to the tune of five gigabytes.
Anyone care to explain that?

Well when games are utterly huge they can install on the hard drive to reduce load times. What this boils down to is that a few PS3 developers added in that option, not requirement but option, to try and take care of that. Apparently Ridge Racer 7 is just over the size of DVD after being compressed and such.

I know that Genji will also give you the choice (again note that it is an option like Furyk said) to download 4GB from the disk to the PS3 harddrive to help speed up load times.

Hmmm... Definitely sounds like I'm going to need to hack out my PS3 HDD. I generally get stuck playing 10 games at a time. :wall:

I'm okay with it as long as it's an option. I just got scared for a second there.
