And yes, it appears that it will kick @$$ as long as the ports are good. An incredible line up of games.

Seriously, I have Phantasy Star II for the Genesis, it's a fantastic RPG. PS III wasn't as good but it tried to do something original for it's time with the branching storylines that give you a different main characters to play with and different endings. I think SEGA really ruined both games with including the strategy guide with the game when you bought it, kind of takes the fun away. I haven't play PS IV, so I'm buying it to finally play this game. Also, where's the After Burner and Revenge of Shinobi? Though I can see why they could have trouble with Revenge of Shinobi, there were no less than three different versions of that game because of licensing issues.

i hope they give you more then one save slot for the PS games. I remember the gensis had like 3 save slots and i would save in all 3 slots before i ended one part of the game so i could go back and pick it up for the spot instead of starting over from scratch
Funny thing is i Dont recall every beating a PS game. I know on part 2 i got to the Mother thing and gave up. PART 3 i remember beating the first 2 parts of the story but never finshing and PART 4 i got around 1/3 in and gave up (I think part 4 is very hard )
I still remeber sitting in the hospital Reading the walkthough of PS2 (my sister got hit by a car back in 1988) and couldnt wait to get home to play it. I think i stayed up all night playing it .
if all the games are PERFECT PORTS and reviews
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle -- I think i loved this game
Altered Beast -------------- be very fun again to play this i doubt its much fun anymore
Bonanza Bros. ------------- never played
Columns ---------- this will be one of the least games i play
Comix Zone ------------ hated it

Ecco Jr.
hated all 3 doubt i play any of them much
Kid Chameleon ----- was a intersting game for its time
Flicky --- again doubt i put much time into this
Gain Ground ----- never heard of it
Golden Axe I
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
I never even knew they made a golden axe 3 will love to play these again. I still remember Playing this game with my friend back in the day and thinking it was so freaking cool the first time we beat Golden axe 1
Man i miss those days : (
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium
These 3 games alone are worth the 20 or 30 bucks Hell i would paid 40
Ristar ----------- dont remember it
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi---- never got into shinobi games
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

I'm disappointed they didn't include the Streets of Rage games or Wonder Boy. Hated Vectorman (totally and bizarrely overrated IMO-it didn't even LOOK good which was one of the claims).
I'm wanting to play Phantasy Star 4 though. I rented it back in the day (it was crazy expensive so I couldn't buy it) and it was really fun. Seemed to move way faster than the older ones.
Phantasy Star 2 didn't hold up that well when I tried playing it, and 3 has sort of a neat gimick ,but wasn't really that great even for the time.
I am baffled as to why they never made another Phantasy Star game though. There were always rumors of an uber-PS for the Saturn, but it never happened.

They've got to save something for a sequel... I'm disappointed Shining Force 1 + 2 aren't on this either.

I can't wait. I hope that they some how fix the flickering that occurred due to the hard ware limitations. Altered Beast had a ton of Flickering.
for those of you that haven't played Sword of Vermillion, it was an interesting combination of a traditional RPG and an action RPG. I think it had random battles but the actual fighting was like an action RPG.
I thought it was a pretty good game but the story wasn't very memorable.

I think the Streets of Rage games not being included is a ratings issue.
Theres a Sonic collection title, I cant remember which, where in the Japanese version, those Streets of Rage games were included as bonus unlockables. When the game came out here, Sega removed those SoR games and replaced them with I think the two Vectorman games. This was done to preserve the E rating. I think the SoR games would bump the rating up to Teen.
Im willing to bet that this same reason is why SoR games are not included in this collection either.

I don't think so. I think they're saving it for a sequel. This collection is rated teen, according to the eb/gamestop info.

Did you know that number 4, the one that everyone praises as the best in the series, was supposed to be a sega CD release? Back during the day of the Sega CD, before it was deemed a failure, Sega was making a Phantasy Star CD, which was supposed to be quite different from the Phantasy Star 4 we now know and love. It was going to have 3D dungeons, voice acting, anime cut scenes, and to focus on the events after Phantasy Star 3. Sega needs to do this game as well.

This is worth it for PS4 itself, that game was way too expensive back in the day.. like over $70.
It's the real deal -- and a great deal.
If they simply released Kid Chameleon for $19.99, I'd buy it.
I bought one of those semi-shitty Sega Genesis controllers, which has six or seven Genesis games loaded on it, that you plug into your T.V. I mostly bought it for Kid Chameleon, even though it was on clearance for $7.99.

It really feels like this game just crept up... mainly because it's gotten absolutely no coverage. I cannot wait to play Shinobi III... hell, I can't wait to play about half of the games on this collection. The $20 price tag also means that I will have this immediately when it comes out.

Great! Thanks! I guess I'll get the PSP version (which makes the Sonic game for the GBA look even sillier!) Only catch is the screen would be pretty small, since it would be letterboxed (that and the screen is slow). Love that there's a portable console that can actually handle the same game :)

Looks like it's just the same game, but with the ability to save anywhere and with a standing spin dash.

The save thing is neat, but you can just put the PSP to sleep, which almost amounts to the same thing (I leave my DS and PSP "on" for days at a time in sleep mode some times).
Ironically, if you play it on a DS, both the GBA version and the PSP version will be letterboxed! Hmm...guess we'll find out how terribly the PSP version blurs. I really wish they'd do another PSP revision with a flip screen, a second analog stick, and a faster, brighter screen...

Just wait, this one will sell decently and Sega will start work on one that includes SoR 1-3, Shining Force 1-2, Gunstar Heroes (since I think they own the rights to the Genesis version) and other fun stuff.
I'll support this collection just because I want a second one.

Nah, they'll still do it, just because the PS2's install base is much much much larger than the Wii's will be.
Plus Sega can double dip it and get people to buy the same thing twice... alot of these games are already going to be on the Wii VC.

Why get both? If you want it portable, just buy the PSP one.
This is a really solid collection (I was REALLY surprised to see Phantasy Star 4). In a way, not having Streets of Rage just means we'll have an excuse to buy the next collection.

There were 9 trillion great SegaCD games...except of course tons of them were 3rd party. Off the top of my head I'd love to see Ecco CD (waaaaaaaay better than the Genesis games), Dark wizard, and Shining Force CD, amongst others.

If they went past a second collection, we'd see a disc with 20 bad games. There's obviously a ton of games out there, but as with any system, the number of games that were worth playing let alone still worthwhile now is very limited.
Wolfpup
11-06-2006, 02:58 PM
True, but IMO they're not putting their best games all on one disc. There's entire series they haven't touched yet. Streets of Rage, Shining Force (and the other "Shining" games), Landstalker, Wonderboy, Beyond Oasis, Castle of Illusion (not sure if stuff like this or Shadow Run or Ghouls and Ghosts or Spider-Man or X-Men would be possible because of licensing issues), Cyborg Justice, Subterania, Ranger-X, Toe Jam and Earl, etc.
And then add in the SegaCD...

I cracked open my PSP copy of Sega Genesis Collection last night, and I'm extremely impressed. The games look and run great, and there's just a huge number. PLENTY of games left over for another collection though!
Honestly it's just amazing to be holding a portable that's perfectly emulating games I remember thinking of as mindblowingly advanced :)
