I've nearly decided I want the PC version, and I was wondering if there were any deals on it.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, don't buy it. Borrow the game from a friend. There is no Registration Key so everyone can play off the same copy, just as long as you pay the $10 a month for the hunter's license.

As far as the game goes, it is very fun. Definitly worth the $10 a month for a month or two. I don't feel it would have been worth paying $50 + the $10 a month though.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, except that's stealing.

Yeah, but what happened to the days of paying for a game once? I feel they are stealing from me by requiring me to continue paying for a game I already bought. I sincerely doubt it costs that much to keep the servers up.

Besides, each incarnation of Phantasy Star Online had a registration key. They obviously don't care if people are letting their friends mooch their copies, if they did, they would have put it on there like all the other versions.

They are still getting $10 a month from everyone who plays anyway.

Then you are stupid.

Figure you pay 50 for your own personal connection. What do you do with it? Wank to porn and look up video games, right? Well thats focusing mostly on your downstream connection. You probably never utilize much of your upstream.

They on the other hand, have to utilize their upstream connection to send info to hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users and not only run the entire game world off their server, but also store the user info of millions of accounts.

These servers alone cost several thousand dollars a box. Blizzard has a few hundred. Their connection probably costs an additional couple thousand every month. Futher, you have to factor in the fact that these things dont fix themselves. You have hardware guys keeping the servers running and then you have the coders fixing bugs and adding new features and the art guys designing new weapons/monsters/etc.

If you think $10 is a lot, you should see their power bill for just leaving the game world open.

So how can you explain Guild Wars being free to play online? :-s

Well, first off- Its not technically a MMORPG. All the instances are limited to a few people. This'll let them get away with putting more instances on weaker PCs.

Secondly, when they charge $80 per CE and $50 for the regular game, they have a bit more to work with. Especially since they release the new ones about every 6 months. Additionally, they charge $10 for extra character slots.

PSU is not 'technically' a mmorpg either..
