Hi, didn't see a thread for this and I have a couple questions. I read on GS' site they have 4-6 covers for the LE version of the guide, and I went in-store yesterday and they told me they received the guides, but they were sealed so there was no way to know which cover was in which guide. The manager said "I heard one of the stores was opening them up for customers to choose but we're not going to do that. Too much of a hassle." Customer service dies a quiet death.
Anyone have information or photos of what the covers look like? And possibly how to distinguish which from which without opening them?
I found this link of the folio cover with the Ashe cover:

Check this thread for pics.

The outer folio cover is the same, basically pics of the judges. The artbook is the same for everyone. The cover to the strategy guides differs, basically there are 6 main characters so of the 6 different guides, there will be one character on each different guide.

Oh didn't know they talked about the guide in the game thread. I still wonder if there's a way to get my GS to open the guide, I'm sure they can just reshrinkwrap it in the back. Still looking for pictures of the Penelo and Fran covers.

Click on the second pic. It shows the 6 covers.
I posted this over in the other thread, but just in case you wanted to know:
You can tell which cover you'll get by just looking at the bottom of the guide and pushing the art book up and out of the way a little bit. You'll be able to see the very bottom of the cover. Compare what you see to the pictures on the back outer cover. That way you don't have to get one you don't want, and you won't have to worry about whether you can open it up first.

Yep, this is exactly what I did for the FFX2 and KH2 guides.

I was flipping through the regular guide at the store the other day and it looks pretty sharp, I might just get both.

We should set up a trade thread for the guides. There are a lot of people who have a definite preference for the cover they get, and aren't getting the one they wanted.

You know, that really isn't fair of you to say that. A store should not open a product that they are then going to sell to someone else as brand new. I wouldn't like knowing that the guide I paid $30 for had already been opened and passed over by another person.
Customer service is very important, and I agree that there is a shortage of it in this country. However, what you are asking for is not customer service, but rather a violation of customer rights.
Luckily, my EB had no idea about the different covers, so I am sure mine was originally sealed. :D

Based on the reason he gave, it is completely fair of me to say that. When I asked the manager if he was certain there was no way to open them up to look, he said he was certain because he just didn't want to deal with it. Nothing he said has anything to do with your argument.

No, it isn't fair, he would have to possibly open up six copies, just so one person could be happen, and continue doing this for everybody. And if I came in and saw they were open I wouldn't buy them, and again make him open up some more than. Just what we need, gutted CE guides.

I couldn't get one when I picked up my CE game... I really don't even want the CE game, just the guide.
Are some stores getting a ton of guides or is it actually limited (unlike the game)?

At my gamestop, they had at least 30+ of the CE guides and another 30+ of the regular guide. You'll probably be able to find if you look around.

Wow. My GS only had like 5 CE guides. I was angry because I wanted the Ashe cover, but somewhere during shipping the guide acquired a large gouge in it. And it was the only Ashe one we had. I wanted to cry.

Is there a substantial difference between the regular and LE guide? Besides the cover?

Certain Gamestops got cases upon cases of this guide.
I went through a box today to snag an Ashe guide, but they had an almost even number of all of them.
EDIT:
Did anybody notice that the writing on the spine is not in the same place as on the KH, MGS3 and Onimusha LE guides?

I got a Fran. I'm happy. I picked up my copy a day late and they still had about 20 LE guides left. I don't know if they got any more CE in than were preordered though.

Unfortunately the stores closest to me didn't have very many available, I ended up with a Fran guide, I wanted an Ashe or that other girl, but Fran was better then getting one of the guys.

Have you played through a lot of the game? Fran is the epitome of hotness.

Nope, don't own the game yet. I would have waited to get the guide, but I wanted to have some sort of choice for covers. I dunno, those rabbit ears don't really do it for me. Still I prefer her to any of the male covers.

Every EB / GS around me has 4 + copies of this guide, according to the locator... dosen't seem very "limited" at all.
I was going to snag one since I need a guide, but I think I'll just save $10 and get a regular one since this guide dosen't look to be holding alot of value in the future.

The LE guides are plentiful at first, but usually don't get replensihed much after the initial shipments. Some of them have stragglers that fail to sell (onimusha, and Soul Calibur 3 come to mind). Then some get snatched up quickly. The KH II LE guide went fast.

Basically with Square-Enix LE guides they start out pretty plentiful, but after a few months they dry up everywhere except Ebay and on Ebay the majority of people charge 10$ + for shipping and if you want it new you won't be able to pick out which cover you want. With the high shipping prices it's hard to find a decent deal.
My advice would be if you don't care about the cover and don't mind watching ebay for a few weeks then if you wait you'll stand a good chance of getting it for 20-25$. If you have a cover preference and don't mind spending 5$ more then I'd just get it now.

Funny you meantion this about EBGames/Gamestop, which has "new display copies" that are opened and scratched up

Hey guys,
I have an extra one of these guides if anyone needs one. My store didnt have one when I picked up my game preorder, so the next morning I ordered one off the website. But then later that day I went to a different store and they had one left, so I picked it up. I tried to cancel my order from the website but no luck. I havent actually gotten it yet, but its shipped.
So if you cant find one near you, send me a pm. I'll even try to push the artbook up a bit and determine which cover it is if you want. If theres no interest I'm just gonna return it to the store anway.
