I have a fat PS2 I want to trade in to Gamestop. Unfortunately, I am missing the plate on the back, where the HDD goes. Gamestop just says the system has to be in working condition, which it is.....will they care about the missing plate??

That's a lie. It's not part of the system. It's not like it's the tray cover. Now if the Void label has been tampered with, that's another matter.

YMMV on if they'll accept it or not.
Considering those EB/GS managers are ranked on their trades and that's not a required piece, all stores should take it. Of course some people just don't understand their jobs.

What the hell are you talking about? I work at GS, and we can't take it. The only way we could is if he had the internet adapter to go over that spot.
You're the one missing the trade-ins. Ask your DM and I'll bet he says that as long as it works and the seal isn't broken to take it. If it didn't work he'd still say take it and charge the refurb fee. I've known the manager at the GS I frequent for 16 years. I even worked for him for a while. I get all my GS info from him. His store is one of the highest ranked trade-in stores in the company. He told me it was ok. I'll believe him.

If he wants to take the refurb fee, then fine. But he'd be better off selling it to someone then getting $10 for it.
Also I will ask my DM because I know for a fact you're not supposed to take them without the back piece. Just because some people bend the rules doesn't mean you're suppsed to. We're not supposed to take PT PS2s or Xboxes made before Oct 94 as non-refurbs but I do it for people all the time.
I don't give a shit about the trades. I'm not going to take in crappy merchandise, against company policy. It's funny that the people here bitch about gutted games that are brand new, yet want us to take in things that are missing parts.
Also EB manager name dropping doesn't impress me. So don't bother.
