My site seems to have a bug. Now it could be MANY things.
1. Human Error
2. A Common Client Config
3. Popup Blocker
4. Bad Code at my Site
5. SSL problems
I need some help and would like to ask CAGers to help me out here.

This is a test product.
Feel free to setup a bogus account and use the word Test as a last name.
When checking out please use CC 411111111111111 with exp Feb 2004
What I am looking for is a loop. Customers are saying either during create account or checkout that the info doesnt go through and that they are forced to reenter the info again and again until it finally works or they just give up. Also it seems to be when customers attempt to change either billing or shipping address.
HELP!
The test item is setup for .01
Feel free to attempt to duplicate the error and create a couple accounts to try to make this happen.
I would be really grateful for the help.
Please note URLs where the error occurs and post results here..whether you get an error or not.
I just tried to create an account (with my real information) twice, and both times after I hit submit it just refreshed the page and cleared out everything I entered.
I'm using IE6 with Google Toolbar and pop-up blocking is on.

I logged in using my own account. Once I clicked "continue" after entering in the CC info, the page refreshes and returns right back to the payment info page. Here's the URL it seems to "loop" at for me:

I disabled my pop-up blocker (Google) and it worked fine after that.

I use Opera which has its own built in Search Bar which includes Google. How many of you use this google toolbar? Is it used widely?
This may or may not be the problem. Anyone with the google toolbar please help me test this.
First try to sign up with the popup blocker on. If you are not successful please turn it off and try again.
Turning off the pop-up blocker worked for creating the account. When checking out, I couldn't use the 411111111111111 for credit card, gives me:
Credit Card Error!
The first four digits of the number entered are: 4111<br>If that number is correct, we do not accept that type of credit card.<br>If it is wrong, please try again.
As for the google toolbar, I always use it since I use google for searches, and having it block pop-ups is handy. :) Maybe a message on the pages about "if you are using a pop-up blocker you must disable it" if you can't get the site working without that.

I am thinking that I will have to just redo the javascript that checks the fields for errors and just refresh the page instead...
Popup blockers are in style and the less I have on my site the better.

I got the same message. I was able to create an account just fine though. I didn't have any sort of pop-up blocker on if that's relevant. Hope this helps one way or the other.
EDIT: Guess I was missing that extra 1 too. Anyways, everything went through fine from what I can tell. Said it was processed, order number is 2077. Hope this helps

TY all and please continue to test. While I think it is a popup blocker please test if you do not have one...I want to know if anyone without the blockers can have the problem.

I didn't have any blockers on and I was able to go through...order number was 2077
EDIT: Tried it again, went through fine (or at least from what I can tell) Order # 2078
Order finally went thru with that extra 1 for the CC field - order 2079. Looks like the Google Toolbar popup blocker was the culprit for me.

It might be. I don't have the Google Toolbar popup blocker on my computer and I was able to do it twice. I tried it with Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition (the pop-blocker I use) and I was able to go through just like before. Order #2080 on that one.

I went back and messed around with the change address thing that was mentioned in the first post as a problem people were having. Didn't seem to have any sort of problems whatsoever. Changed the address, continued on, went just fine. Order #2082

I just cant get the error to be consistant. I installed the toolbar and have tried the auto fill ...the blocker....everything but still I cant see the error that everyone else does.
I still think its my javascript that is causing the problem but I need to know why.
I gave the javascript a quick lookover but didn't catch what it is - must be some call you are making that it catches. I know the toolbar doesn't catch everything, cuz I get some pop-ups still now and then and those stupid "Would you like to install" boxes.
I did find some interesting things I'd like to order once you've got it all straightened out - just lemme know about shipping to Canada. ;)

Well, I decided to try it again with the Google toolbar/pop-up blocker. Went and installed it, created a new account and it went through just fine. Order #2083.
I don't know if any of this is relevant and/or helps, but I'm running Windows XP Professional and I'm using IE6 through an Ethernet connection through my school.
I am able to edit my account (I changed the FAX number 3 or 4 times) no problem with the Google Toolbar blocking pop-ups.
I wasn't able to create a new account though still, so maybe there is a slight difference in the code it uses to create an account and to edit one?

ok ecks...what is your build for IE?
mine is 6.026
also do you have a firewall? or any other backend software that you think is a possible cause.
If I can find at least one person who's computer can consistantly create the problem then thats a first step.
If you can help me out that would be great. If I can create the same error you and everyone else is getting then I can start to work on fixing it. But I cant fix what I cant test. As it stands everything I test works still.

Me too. I've tried everything I could possibly think of and it's working fine. Order #2085. Throw another one onto the pile...
My IE is 6.0.2800.etc - I have all the current Windows Updates installed.
No firewall or any other problems like that. Windows XP Home edition.
If I have the Google Toolbar not blocking popups, works fine - I may have an older version of the toolbar (it auto updates), lemme try forcing an install. Right now it's version 2.0.95. Will post once I reinstall.

My IE is the same version too. The Google toolbar I just installed is 2.0.107 though...don't know if that means anything...
I installed the latest Google toolbar (2.0.107) and still couldn't complete the new user form. It didn't work. So I tried something else. I went into Internet Options / Security and clicked "Default Level" and it allowed me to sign up.
So it must be a setting there, I'll take a look and see what I changed, there is something I changed most likely at some point for some reason.
Changing security to "High" seems to cause the problem. So it's a setting that is different between "Medium" (default) and "High", going thru them all now.

hmm...what were your security options before?
I will try to raise mine.
SSL handshake is one possibility I posted as well...
oh jeez...just shoot me!
There are a lot of differences between "High" and "Medium" - "High" you can't do much, all javascript and such is disabled, which would obviously cause the problem.
People disable javascript and such sometimes to prevent pop-ups.
I tried editing my account on "High" security, and I can't.
I think the problem is people have scripting turned off and don't think of turning it back on?

I was able to checkout with popup blocker and high security.
XP home is crappier than Pro version...also do you have the MS firewall enabled? For your internet connection? Or do you have a firewall installed at all?
I'm using XP Home because I actually bought it and didn't want to shell out an extra $100 for XP Pro when it had no features at all I use. I don't have a firewall, just a router with certain ports open, but I don't see that causing a problem with submitting the form.
You're not using any submits with http://username@password:www.blahblah.com are you? Microsoft disabled that usage in a patch very recently.
I'm not running any other software on this machine that would interfere. Hmm..
I thought it might be the Sun Java console I had installed for Java, so I uninstalled it, rebooted, etc., etc.
Still can't create a new account with "High" security and the pop-up blocker on. If I turn it off, it works.
Here's the configs I tested:
High security + blocker on = doesn't work
High security + blocker off = works
Medium security + blocker on = works

I just went and checked to see if I was up to date with my Windows updates. Seems there were two critical updates that I hadn't installed yet. Installed them, rebooted and went on to try again. Now I'm starting to have problems. I went to make a new account and got hung up entering the information. After entering it the second time, it let me go on. I got hung up again on changing the shipping address (after the 3rd time, I was able to go on). Went onto the payment options and was able to get it to go through the first time. Order #2090. Maybe it's the new Windows security patches? I recall hearing somewhere that Microsoft discovered some new exploit and released a patch for it over the past couple of days. Like I said, I was having no problems whatsoever until I installed the two new patches. They were:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB832894)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB828028)
My security options were set to Medium, just in case you needed to know.
You're not using any submits with http://username@password:www.blahblah.com are you? Microsoft disabled that usage in a patch very recently.
That's the new IE update that has been causing lots of webmasters problems. I dunno if it applies in this case. Microsoft removed that functionality because of all those fake e-mails from "eBay" or whatever scamming people of info, it can use that method to hide the real URL or something.

Sorry, didn't get much of a chance to peek through it because I'm at work, but I did notice two javascript functions that pop open windows on that test page. Perhaps the session chokes when it expects to be carried to a new window, but is being blocked? I'll see if I can poke around some more when I get a chance...

IE 6.0.2800.1106
No pop-up blockers or toolbar.

I put in some test information clicked continue, and it went to https://www.videogamedeals.com/create_account_process.php BUT...
I then noticed that I hadn't switched from subscribed to unsubscribed, so I clicked the browser's back button and re-entered the info. All subsequent clicks of "continue" looped back to create_account.php. I don't know if that helps.

Howdy. I've had classes all day, so this is the first time I've been able to try it again since. Made a new account, clicked Submit and it took me back. I tried it again 4 times or so and finally it went through. Went through everything else OK, except when I got to the payment method. I entered the cc#, date, etc, then onto the next screen. When I clicked "Confirm Order", it took me to a white screen that said "Transaction Results Failed - Please Standby while your Transaction is processed..." and then took me back to the payment options screen. I tried it a couple more times and it continues to do the same thing. Hope this helps in any and/or some way.
EDIT: Went back and tried again. I was able to create a new account the first time through, but this time I had the Google pop-up blocker off. But the same thing at the end with the credit card. Like I had mentioned in an earlier post, I didn't start having any of these problems until I updated Windows. Hope this helps out in any way, defender.
It's not letting me create an account. Here's my setup:
Winxp, no service packs
IE ver 6.0.2600
My computer is connected to internet through a router with very few ports being forwarded to this computer
Cookies are blocked, but www.videogamedeals.com is explicitly allowed.
No pop-up blockers, or any other add-ons, including software firewalls, are running.
One of two things happens.
Situation One:
I click "continue", and I get "The page cannot be displayed". So, I click back and try again. This happens from time to time whether or not all the required fields are filled in.
Situation Two:
I click continue. If some required fields aren't filled in, in a pink bar at the top, it says things like, "min 2 chars, min 5 chars, required". If all the required fields are filled in, the same pink bar is there, but nothing is in it, and all the fields are still filled in with the exception of the password.
This happened to me before, back when you did the Pikmin deal. I could add things to my cart, but I could never make an account. I never really thought much about it though, cause I took it as a sign that I didn't need whatever I was buying. :D
If you need any more testing, I'll be glad to help out.

Ok I just finished rebuilding the account signup process..
Please give it another shot and report back to me.
I have basically taken a 3 step process and made it into 2.
Ok, I got the "The page cannot be displayed" one time. However, I was able to actually make an account this time. :D However, when I made my account, it didn't say not to abbreviate my state (NC), so now my state is Alabama, and now it says do not abbreviate my state, heh.
While I was trying to check out, I got the "The page cannot be displayed" a couple times. I know for sure that I got that instead of the credit card page a couple times, and I got that instead of the review your order page a couple times. Each time, I clicked back and tried again.
I was able to change my billing address and shipping address with no problems.
I am however getting "Transaction results failed" when I confirm my order, and then the next page sometimes doesn't load. When it does load the next page in the loop, its my credit card page, and in a big red bar at the top, it says "CALL".

the credit card failed is normal since thats not a real card...it just passes through to the CC processor instead of being stopped as an incorrect CC number
when you get that page cannot be displayed ...are you using the back button on the browser?
