View Full Version : Worst songs of '06?

Even though there are 2 months left of the year, which is plenty of time for musicians to do their damage, I think I've decided on my absolute least-favorite songs of this year. Your song choices don't necessarily have to have been released in 2006, but should have atleast been played significantly in the time period. Here's mine:
"Love Me or Hate Me" - Lady Sovereign
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k06m3h21yXE
"About Us"- Brooke Hogan featuring Paul Wall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDb5CfC9gTE
"I Want You" - Paris Hilton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp65b0LqHZw
Close:
"Alive With The Glory of Love" - Say Anything
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfptieWXEJA
The vocalist really ruined this song for me. The song has some pretty smooth beats, otherwise, and I may have actually enjoyed it had the frontman not been so talentless.
So, what are your least favorite songs of 2006?

Wow. I must be getting old - I've never heard any of those songs before (they are all terrible) and the only person I've even heard of is Paris Hilton but not for music, obviously. Sad that her song is the best out of the bunch you posted.

London Bridge
Lips of An Angel
Very close contest between them two, but I hated Fergie first, so she wins/loses.

Laffy Taffy (I'm pretty sure that it was 2006) is among the worst songs ever

Laffy Taffy (I'm pretty sure that it was 2006) is among the worst songs ever
While you're at it, why not just throw anything Black Eyed Peas or Fergie related into the mix. Then add the Pussy Cat Dolls and you're good to go.

I can't stand bad music, I usually listen to music at least 3 years old, so it has gone through a sort of peer review process and any celebrity crap or hype is gone.

I don't know, I thought the Lady Sovereign video was pretty cool. I think Fergie trying to basically clone Gwen Stefani is far more obscene.

This whole year was full of crappy music especially from the hip/hop rap community. How many damn times can somebody describe their fucking cars, I might be old fashion but I liked it better when rappers accually had good reason to pick up a mic.

Wow those all suck and hard, but if I had to choose I'd say Paris+
"Alive With The Glory of Love" are the two worst from your list. The only song I really hated was one of Ashley Simpsons but I forget the name of it, and those two from your list.

All mainstream "hip-hop/rap" that radio stations have played throughout the year. Let's see: "Stunna Glasses," "Lean wit it, rock wit it," "OH I think they like me," "Tell me when to go;" the list goes on and on but it just pisses me off thinking about it.
But the one that ticks me off the most is: "Chicken Noodle Soup." WTF is that shit? Hip-hop/rap is pretty much dead except for a select few artists. This whole hyphy/tacky movement is so retarded. I don't understand how certain rap "artists" get signed these days with the crap they put out.
I guess whatever is marketable sells..

I would like you guys to know that Hip Hop is far from dead.
Talib Kweli and Mos Def are coming out with new albums soon. Panacea's Ink is My Drink was an incredible album. Hi-Tek came out with Hi-Teknology 2: the Chip. J. Dilla had The Shining. Ghostface Killah released Fishscale. Kidz in the Hall's album School was my Hustle only came out on the 31st. How about Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor? Or Nicolay's Here? Or Rhymefest's Blue Collar? Or The Roots Game Theory? Or Vakill's Worst Fears Confirmed?
Turn off your radio and MTV and listen to some good hip hop for a change.

That My Chains Hang Low song. I absolutely cannot begin to fathom why this was released, and even more importantly, how anyone can stand to listen to it with a straight face and seriously like it. No laughs intended.
Also up for running is Fergie's London Bridge and that horrid, horrid Paris Hilton track. Ack.
Radio/mTV has gotten terrible. Just terrible.

i agree...that chicken noodle soup song is the most retarded shit i've ever heard...and i like some mainstream hiphop/rap too (usually for the beats rather than lyrics though), so that's saying something ;)

LOL I actually liked Chicken Noodle Soup. The beat is OK at a club (be drunk, seriously) and the lyrics had me laughin when I first heard it. I honestly thought I was listening to a commercial for Cambells. I thought they were taking a street approach..but I was like "Damn this is a LONG commercial"
It's a dumb song, but I think it can be good and funny if you have a sense of humor towards all things that are ghetto. I think it's hillarious.
SexyBack is gettin on my nerves, but, like everyone else I too was really diggin it when it came out. It's OK now, but it's SO played out. His new song "My Love" is ::VOMITS::
and "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.. ohh, that's terrible.
Time to get a soda on the side, see ya! ^_^

London Bridge
Laffy Taffy
These two take the cake for me, including the ones you have mentioned. That Love Me or Hate Me song kind of grows on you, but it's still not that great of a song. I'd question whether to say it is the worst of 06 when other worsts and better worsts (oxymoron) have been posted.
Oh and how are we forgetiting the man himself, K-Fed.
Chicken Noodle soup is the most retarded song I have ever heard with Chain Hang Low coming in a very close second.
Come on guys, it's already assumed that anything Nickelback puts out is crap. Always has been and always will be.
Who, no how in the hell do they come up with this shit. I guess the human condition is capable of any imagineable (or not) attrocity.

i agree that the "my chains hang low" song is quite probably the worst "popular" song this year. i mean, turning "do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro" into a RAP song about gold chains is just plain silly. a month or two ago, i was diriving and this kid pulls up next to me with the song blaring. i had never heard it before, so i started laughing so hard i was tearing up. of course, it wasn't just the song, but also the "hard" expression on the kid's face as he nodded his head, but still, you get the idea.
in addition to that song, i heard a nu-country song the other day that replaced the word "fuck" with the word "love", as in "love you, love this town, i'm sick of you lovin' around". it was pretty awful.

Other terrible songs from this year:

And yes, Roufuss, Justin Timberlake sounds like a woman on his new album. It's like he was trying to imitate Michael Jackson and failed miserably.

What is this Chicken Noodle Soup song?
It was a dance in Harlem (I think) and these 2 or 3 kids created a very repetitive song to go with it.
My picks for '06:
1. Do your chain hang low?
2. That fucking Lil Jon song with only three notes... "Let me see you do it" is the name?
3. Laffy Taffy like others have said
4. Young Joc's singles

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but MTV dosen't play music anymore.
Seriously.
The only time I've seen them playing music is from 3 - 6 am and then for a little bit in the morning... the rest of the time they just show repeats upon repeats of all of their MTV shows (like Made, Parental Control, Real World Road Rules Challenge, Laguna Beach).
Weird... I watched the video, and it IS from MTV... I think it's MTV 2 though, because I watch MTV alot when I'm bored and I haven't once seen them play music in about a month.

Oh gawd I hate MTVs programming. The worst is Sweet 16. Those shallow spoiled bratty girls acting like elitest ho sluts on tv. Who the heck do they think they are? They are so spoiled and concieted, it makes me feel sad for the people that have to put up with them. Talk about making a bad name for your generation.
They always make the most absurd comments too. "If you arent at this party, you are a nobody."
They do play videos in the morning but thats about it.

They replay it more often than you think. It seems like everytime I am exposed to MTV its either Parental Control or Sweet 16. Both shows are awful...
...but not as bad as the Road rules challenges. I forgot about those. They are freakin HORRIBLE. Yet my friends watch them religiously, along with Laguna beach. Why??? WHY?!?
And yes I mostly like hard rock/metal/AOR/whatever but listen to all genres of music really... its not hard to tell good songwriting from bad songwriting no matter what the genre is.

Yeah, every time I flip to MTV it's always playing one of those Reality or Dating shows, not that I care about the music videos they play now but it would be a nice departure.
Wasn't MTV2 supposed to be dedicated to music videos and show more of the indie, metal, and underground stuff?

It was *supposed* to be. Now they just use it to dump off shows that have lost their primetime popularity and other nonsense that wouldnt blow over well on the main channel. MTV2 does play more videos but not a great deal more. i believe they were airing a Headbangers Ball program awhile back but rarely had anything decent on and rotated the same few videos over and over. I havent watched it in about a year so cant really comment on what they have going on now but this was the case last year.

It was supposed to be, but now it's become the run off of MTV shows that didn't take off (Andy Milonkis) or that are already over, like Viva la Bam and Jackass.
Whenever I see MTV2 playing music it's usually hip hop / rap, though.

Okay the suck songs of the year are:
London bridge
Chain Hang low
You're beautiful
chicken noodle soup
Anything by D4L or Dem Franchise Boys or features one of them on the song
Young Joc - I know you see it
Ridin Dirty
Everytime the beat drops
Kevin Federline's Cd (i don't even need to hear it)
Now I disagree with people who think that Gnarls Barkley Crazy, Lil Jon Snap yo fingers sucked. Snap yo fingers is decent, and crazy is great just overplayed.

eh they like the fame of being on tv. Thats the only logic I can apply to it.
I think the Gnarles Barkley song should be in the running for worst of 06 too. The woman that used to live upstairs from me played it constantly... over and over again... for hours... sometimes starting it up at 2 in the morning right over my bedroom. (the third floor is a single room apt) It was a nightmare... weird because the other place I used to live the guy upstairs would play eminem's Stan for hours on end looping it.
Did not like either song to begin with. Now i loathe them!

Woah, "Yeah" was an awesome song, you freak.
I learned last week from my teammate who's from Brooklyn that Chicken Noodle Soup is actually vagina I didn't even want to know what the Soda was.
Not any horrible songs that I can say I couldn't stand to hear, probably:
Nickleback
Promiscous Girl

Well there were some pretty good songs and some pretty horrible ones
But here's to all the CAGs who have posted 3 or more times here, you hate new music and are becoming senile, check into a retirement home now (even if you're 20)
But I will nominate The Black Eyed Peas and Fergie

I'd gladly trade the current "hip-hop/pop-rap" or whatever, for the boy bands and pre-packaged pop acts that came before them. At least I enjoyed them to a degree, and they didn't have retarded ideas for songs, sample the hell out of other songs, sound like cookie monsters, and lest we not forget, be repetetive as all hell.
How many times does Mr. Timberlake repeat the phrase "go ahead be gone with it" in his song? Side note: What does that even mean? It's songs like these that make me wonder whether or not quality lyrics are even valued anymore.

NSync's "Pop" was phenomenal, and at least they were musically talented, even if they didn't write anything they sang.

Well there were some pretty good songs and some pretty horrible ones
But here's to all the CAGs who have posted 3 or more times here, you hate new music and are becoming senile, check into a retirement home now (even if you're 20)
LoL - that's what I was thinking. The purpose of these songs is not to enter the musical canon.

Institutionalized. I have no idea when it came out but I can't stand it in GH II.
