View Full Version : Quick! Do I want 20GB or 60GB?

I ended up preordering both, thinking I could cancel the one I didn't want. I THINK I just want the 20GB one (I already have a memory card reader, and I have a wired network, and isn't the hard drive user upgradeable anyway?)

But any thoughts? Can the 60GB one work as a wireless access point for the PSP or DS? That might be worth it.

And how do I cancel one of them? I assumed there'd just be a "cancel" button like Amazon, but I guess you have to actually call their 800 number?

...Buy both and ebay one of them. You then get a free PS3 in theory.

Really, keep the 60. Times change.

If I wasn't so frightened and confused by eBay, maybe I could pay for my PS3, Wii, and HDTV just by selling one PS3! :D

Either one will work fine. Just think, will you be using the extra features in the $600 version? I doubt the memory card reader will be a big issue but the built in wi-fi and 40 extra GB of HD space might be useful.

I think Sony said that if you had the 60GB version that you could preload games on the HD so they load faster. But I'm not sure if you can do that on the 20GB version.

I've never heard that you can't do it on both (although actually a single Blu Ray disc IS larger than a 20GB HD, so who knows?)

That's an interesting point. If true, the 60GB makes more sense.

EDIT: The 360 reserves what, about 7GB or so, and leaves stuff from the last three games on there? So I'm kind of thinking the 20GB would be fine just to install a couple of games to it at a time.

VERY few games will even come close to filling the storage on a BR disc.

I think the 20GB is the safe bet, unless wireles sis an absolute must for you right off the bat. Any other advantage (save the blingin' chrome front) the 60GB version might have can be remedied with USB devices, should you need to.

So, if you find you need more hard drive space, you can add a USB HD. Same with the card reader. I'm betting I won't need the HD space--I've never come close to filling half my 360 HD.

Quick update, a Sony person who's actually gotten to play with the hardware says the Playstation 3 *IS* user upgradeable. The hard drive slips out kind of like on the Playstation 2.

That makes me feel safe going with the 20GB version-though if you want Wifi or the memory card reader starting out, you might as well go with the 60.

Honestly I'm getting more and more impressed by the hardware. It's turned out it's more powerful than 360 (which surprised me), it's quiet, has real backwards compatibility, etc. And how many consoles have Folding at Home and a free Linux distribution available at launch? :D

The last I read it loads about 4GBs of data to help the load times. That means you could load about 3 games on a 20GB (leaving you room that is allocated for the system it self and saves).

Preloading the data might not be such a great idea for 20GB users.

If the PS3 does indeed allow user HDD upgrades I'll throw a 160GB HDD into the $500 model.

Maybe for now, but who knows what developers have planned for the future. Its better than limiting yourself to a smaller format.
