This is funny and crazy at the same time. I guess this man is lucky for getting away with one, but stupid to post it on the internet.Link to story here Source Digg.com (http://digg.com/gaming_news/Stolen_PS3_Thief_Post_Pictures_on_Car_Forum)
Up here in NorCal someone broke into a kiosk and stole a PS3. As you can see from the pics, it's not the test system sent to game sites and magazines such as IGN, where the PS3 will say "test" on the cover Also this is the persons Myspace Url. (http://www.myspace.com/hanniballs)

Update on the story. System is not stolen , the man is a game developer(which is great to know not everyone is evil).

might as well let the cat outta the bag..

Haniballs (the guy with the non-test marked PS3) is a game developer with 15 years in the business. He received two PS3 units, one for work and one to take home since he lives in Norcal and kinda far away from the game studios.

He also received another box that looks like the PS3 that holds an alternate C7 (cell7 core overclocked instruction set) which is the 2nd version of the cell processor that will ship from Sony in PS3's much (much) later in 2007.

Apparently sony has a high failure rate of first run cell processors (to get a good one for shipping) and the version one processor that will ship right away (normal) is in box one... then they are going to an overclocked version a few months from now.. but Haniballs has that processor (alone) in another white looking box, to test on it he just runs 3 ribbon cables over to the new processor housing (which runs so hot the box is 2 times the size as the PS3 itself).

In addition to running faster.. the second gen processor console will have a flash type capability that will allow you to re-flash your PS3's firmware to also play HD-DVD (as well as blue ray) but also most future formats (via re-flash)... the gen one console will be blue ray only and fixed rom. The to be released 4th quarter PS3 also has bluetooth built in.

also the photos dont show it (old controllers)... but haniballs also got 2 of the new controllers... which despite the rumors and pics floating around are in fact different.

the new PS3 controllers have that new HP laptop like "black piano" glossy surface on them. like ipods... they are glossy and also have the vibration feature enabled and of course have the gyros in them for Wii like gaming.

The new controllers match the PS3 console perfectly.

I'm not sure if the new online gaming screenshots were posted, but that's the big surprise that's going to be announced. There WILL be a full featured online gaming community right out of the gate which version 1.01a software will be included on the PS3 hard drive. It's called the PS3 "light brite" bridge.... yes.. like the old school "lite brite" game from the 80's.. hahaha.. anyway, it will include downloadable game demos, etc.. an Xbox 360 online rip off.. but also include an itunes like online store that will allow you to buy songs and download them to sony memory stick only. Four sony media players are supported including that new player / wifi skype phone sony just released.. forgot the name.

Anyway.. I also received one of the PS3 final firmware machines for doing some audio work since I've been working for Sony (music division) for almost 20 years now. I didn't have to sign an NDA to get my PS3 either. I'm not really a gamer and though I create loops I was not planning on getting involved with stuff on the PS3 so I was just going to throw my PS3 on ebay... unless someone wants to give me $3500 today for it.... its unopened in a new box.

Yeah, what's the deal with these rumors? They sound made up. A secret online network? A new controller with vibration? An overclocked second-gen processor that will play HD-DVD? No, I don't think so. Which, of course, makes the whole idea that this guy is a developer sound like a lie to cover the theft. Or maybe just evidence that the theft itself is a hoax. Why do people post goofy stuff like this (not you OP, but real original poster)?

No way a Sony box would play an HD-DVD.

(and damn, that thing shows a disgusting amount of dust. I'm definitely not a fan of the piano black finish!)

Why connect a PS3 to a tube television? If you're a dev, you're probably a tech geek with a bit of pocket change; so that seems unlikely.

So, it's not stolen, and he has his hands on some super-secret, not-going-to-be-released-unti-late-2007 second version. And it will play HD-DVD and can be reflashed to cook things and let the grease drain off? Whew, glad we cleared that up.

Well I might as well let the cat out of the bag, My friend Billy (or you may know him as Bill Gates) called me to let the word out., the Xbox360 really has 100 cores with HT and they were all activated with the recent dashboard upgrade. You can also play blueray movies and games on your 360 PLUS the entire dreamcast library is BC now.

Huh? "Re-flashing" to get HD-DVD playback? Doesn't Blu-Ray and HD-DVD use different lasers? That makes no sense.

don't know about viral marketing but this is weird...

"Oh shi--it's been stolen!"

"Some guy just posted pics of it!"

"Oh hay guys, I didn't steal it and here's all this cool info that I'm voluntarily giving up for no reason and and I didn't have to sign a NDA, they just gave me this system cuz i'm cool and here you can buy it for $3500"

Or you have have good taste in displays and wanted the best picture quality possible, which you would get with a hi-def crt.

Except, that's a 4x3 television. I'll agree a CRT provides the best picture, but there are the 16x9 Sony CRTs.

Only up to 34". Which ends up being only slightly larger than the 16x9 image on a 36" 4x3 and smaller on a 40".

the last one was pure viral marketing. So I wouldnt be suprised if this one was either.

I mean it's on the front page of digg
people are talking about it all over
it worked. (Assuming it is viral marketing)

the only part that throws me off is him offering to sell it. but all the other info is pure viral.

but then again, maybe that's part of the plan...make people think it's worth the $3500.

Ok, but that TV in the picture isn't bigger than 36". It actually looks smaller. So yeah, it wouldn't make sense that a developer or someone big into HT would have that. It again comes back to, the whole story doesn't make any sense. Looks more like a dorm room than the living room of an elite developer who works from home.

They would if they had a feeling Blu Ray will flop like other SONY formats.

And a second gen processor? Imagine paying $2500 on ebay and planning on using it as your PS3 and blu-ray player (current BR players cost a $1000), then less than a year later their is a version of the same system that plays HD-DVD's.

Even worse, what if movie companies have abandoned blu-ray :hot:

Still, it's probably BS
