Excuse my ignorance, but does anybody know how this whole "region-free" thing works?

Will a PS3 from the US work in the UK?
Or only the games will work in either system?

If I wanted to play a PS3 from the US while in Europe, what would I need? (Power adapter?)

It will totally depend on how much power the PS3 draws. Most of the inverters that are for $20-$30 are designed for hair dryers. Someone in the UK or anywhere else in the world would have to buy one that could power a laptop I think.

What about the whole PAL/ntsc? Is that no longer an issue with the new higher definition, etc?

Also, the games are definitely "region-free"?

PS3 games are region-free. PS2/PS1 games are not.
