View Full Version : Im planing to buy a DVI LCD monitor... How woud I hook up a 360 to a DVI monitor?

You will need a VGA to DVI adapter. Your local computer superstore should have them in stock, either CompUSA or Microcenter (there's one in NY but I'm not sure how close to LI it is.)

I would suggest getting one with a VGA port as well. You'll only be able to hook it up to a DVI port if Microsoft releases an HDMI cable for the 360 (then you'd use a DVI-HDMI cable).

I don't think those can work both ways. I think they are only for changing a DVI signal to VGA. Not for connecting VGA to a DVI only source.

There is no easy way to convert VGA to DVI without spending $200+. The reason its so expensive is because the box essentially has to do a high resolution analog to digital conversion which isn't cheap.

Best advice is to buy a LCD monitor with both DVI and VGA.

DVI to VGA won't work unless your DVI port on your monitor is DVI-I or DVI-A. Then it can adapt. Otherwise it will not until MS releases a DVI cable, which is god knows when.
most computer monitor ports will be DVI-D though.

What? Because Im getting the westinghouse monitor at BestBuy on black friday, and while I will just hook my 360 up through component, I was going to hook my laptop up through the dvi....but my iBook only has a VGA out. However, apple told me they make a VGA to DVI cable...guess he guy at the store didnt know what he was talking about.
