Ok, I am new to the 360, and I am wondering which position is ideal. I saw a bunch of morons at Gamefaqs arguing, but they are like 5 year olds.
Vertical seems to be the preferred answer, but in the horizontal postition you do get extra airflow through the "bottom" (when standing vertically - the bottom).
Any opinions on this one? Any official Microsoft comment?
I have mine verical now, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying horizontal. I feel like my cat is gunna knock it over.
Thanks guys!

Diagonal!
errr but yeah no really, official word is horizontal.
From what I hear having it vertical makes it more prone to scratching your games due to possibly shaking/moving it while it is spinning a disc

Really, official is horizontal? Is that why every time you see a 360 somewhere at a store, or during the 360 release video's it was always vertical.
With that said and to contradict myself. The best position is the one that give your console the most airflow in your setup.
If you have a tv stand and it can fit to one side, stand it vertical so it can breath. If you have shelves lay it down.

I feel like my cat is gunna knock it over.Yeah, horizontal is a much safer way of positioning it. Although it does take more room, the chances of knocking it over substantially decrease. Plus, by having it stand vertical, it increases the possibility of your discs getting scratched.

I've got mine horizontal. To me the vertical position just seems too risky and akward.

yup, just call into microsoft support. The Bottom line official is horizontal. Mainly because if your machine falls over, your disk is fucked. Now if you have your 360 secured vertical like they do in kiosks, by all mean vertical all you want.
btw i'm not responsible if tom cruise does indeed come out of your closet.

Mine froze a lot when it was horizontal. I've since moved it to vertical and had smooth sailing. It increases the surface area exposed to air which helps keep it cool.

Vertical from the get-go , launch --> present , just like my PS2 .

I've got mine verticle and raised off the surface as well for more ventilation. But, recently after owning the system since launch, I got the 3 red lights. I unplugged everything a replugged it together, and all seems fine, for now.

Mine is Horizontal. Right now my brother has several of his games and a 360 controller sitting on top of the 360, but the Wii will replace those on Sunday.
