For those of you still using internet explorer:
ZDnet article (http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105_2-5247187.html?tag=zdfd.newsfeed).
Summary: Using IE is dangerous. Don't do it. And if you do, don't come crying back when you find out your machine's been hijacked.

Yeah, next time you can be the one spending the weekend rebuilding a friend's machine.

It actually takes you a weekend to rebuild a machine?
I mean, barring odd hardware configs and other such wierdness, a rebuild is usually just a 3-4 hour affair.

Once again, JSweeney takes the words out of my...uh...hands.
And unless there's a bunch of software to restore, 3-4 hours is still kind of a long time.

"NetSec's Houlahan advocated drastic action.
"I told my wife, unless it is absolutely necessary and unless you are going to a site like our banking site, stay off the Internet right now," he said. "
Just use Firefox. No need to abandon the net.

If you are a heavy computer user then yes it could take an entire weekend to get your system back to the state it was in before it got fucked up.
I decided to download firefox anyway but so far it seems slower than IE. I did like how it imported all of my settings and has a built in pop-up blocker. I'll give it more time before I make my final decision.

I do believe that's the 20th time I've seen eldad posting on how horrible IE is. Do you get commision from Mozilla or just have a stick stuck up your ass sideways when it comes to IE?

Maybe he just likes people to be warned. If you walk around with a giant hole in the back of your pants, someone is eventually gonna hold you down and :censored: you in the cornhole.

Already found a problem with FF. On this site no less.
On the main post screen, highlight a series of text and hit the URL button. It would only import the close URL tag. The header URL tag was nowhere to be found.

It's called "backing up."
"Heavy computer user[s]" should probably know enough to keep a ghost or some sort of clean backup of their desired config...so it would still only take a couple of hours.

It probably takes me 5 hours to install all the software on my machine. XP, Office Pro, Symantec Client Security, Macromedia Studio Mx, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Acode Creative Suite.................

Do you get commision from Mozilla...?
Yes, that's exactly it. I get 15% of every sale.
Of course, since mozilla is FREE, it doesn't add up to all that much.
Here's a better explanation: Each IE user hurts me, by making the net slower with attacks and updates, by making standards irrelevant, by allowing spammers to use their machines to send me spam.
Is it any wonder I want as many people to switch as possible?
P.S. I really don't care what you use (I prefer opera, firefox and mozilla are nice too, and prolly others I don't know) as long as it's not just IE with a different "skin" (but the same security probs)

If my system gets seriously messed up, it can take me as much as a day to get it up again with all of the software I use. Then again, a whole weekend is a bit excessive. And not many viruses would mess your machine up enough that it would require a complete overhaul, most of the small downloadable Norton tools do a good job of cleaning up.

Add a while to diagnose the problem over the phone, then trying to do stuff remotely before you give up and decide it needs to be taken care of personally.
Don't forget the time spent going online to try and get recent patches for [insert version of windows] and in that time getting it fucking cracked again. Great way to waste a fucking weekend. Good thing you can rev the install cds to newer patched versions.

My paranoia and I will not tolerate this. Time to switch over to Firefox. *cries*

The problem is Hackers Aim to tear down Windows and the first access point is IE. But assuming you;re carefull about what you do with it you can usually avoid the problem. I'd love to see the IE standard die but unfortunatly Billy G monopoly makes it hard to get the ENTIRE internet community to switch.
As it stands after a couple of very harsh expeiences with Hijackers/virui I down loaded a couple of programs that shut down some of the holes in IE and Windows and only use IE for usual sites that I know are safe like Yahoo, a few forums and CAG, and for searching Google and viewing unknown sites that could yeild the problems, I use Mozilla Firefox. Then I scan my comp 2 or 3 times a week for spyware with either Spybot or Adaware and update my virus protection once a week to be sure.

My worst week was when at work my computer HD decided to crap out. Then about 3 days later...my most imporant workstation HD died too. It was a nightmare week.
I found this great software program called Casper XP which copies a drive. I also used a driver recovery program I bought for $80...I was in a pinch and couldnt afford to lose this information. It was a lot of work. I also had to buy new HD's.
Now I have 2 drives in my system and a spare backup drive ready to just swap.
I dont have problems with Viruses since I use Opera and I force all my employees to do the same.
For once I agree with Eldad about IE making the web a little shittier day by day.

WOW! I just read the article. It's amazing that there isnt ONE mention of just using an alternate browser like Firefox or Opera.
It states near the bottom:
NetSec's Houlahan advocated drastic action.
"I told my wife, unless it is absolutely necessary and unless you are going to a site like our banking site, stay off the Internet right now," he said.
UNREAL!
