View Full Version : Is this the best generation yet?

So now that all systems have finally launched and most of us have gotten our hands on at least two of the three, do you think this generation is or will be the best ever?
Obviously, these are the most powerful machines, but we all know the games are what will define these systems. And while they are still all in their infant stages with the exception of the Xbox 360, each system is bringing something different to the gaming table to satisfy a variety of gamer's needs.
So what do you guys think?

Well I think of course. With newer/better technology comes better games.
Just like I'm sure the 720, PS4, and Gamecube 3 will be better than any of the systems we might own now.
:/ Every generation is the "best yet". There has been fun stuff in each console cycle and it will get refreshed again in a few years.

I'm sure it will be because gaming is constantly improving. But I think it's too early to tell a year into the generation, let alone hours after one system launched and days after another. Also why do you think most of us have used 2 out of 3 systems? I've only used the 360.

I think this is like making a Game Of The Year thread in March. Too early to tell.
Even then, it'll be hard to top the 16-bit era imo, though the previous generation came close.
This is the funnest time I've had with video games.

Can't say yet, but it has the potential since we might see companies focusing on gameplay rather than graphics this gen. I don't necessarily think that every gen is better than the previous one either... the 32-bit generation wasn't as good as the 16-bit one, so we won't necessarily see better games this time around.

I think SNES/Genesis along with PS2/DC/Gamecube/Xbox are the two greatest periods in gaming history so far.

I really have to see what the PS3 and (to a somewhat lesser extent) the Wii are bringing to the table before I pass my final judgment. So far I love my 360, can't wait for my Wii to be delivered tomorrow, and am waiting on the major PS3 releases before I hop on board.

While I agree that the 16-bit generation was better than the 32-bit generation, that was a special circumstance. That was going from the height of 2d gaming to early 3d gaming. Until we go into some drastically different technology I think it will be better and better every generation. The N64 was a drastic change from the SNES, the PS3 and 360 are just evolutions of the PS2 and Xbox. The Wii, on the other hand, is a drastic change and could be worse.

I wasn't impressed with the PS2/GCN/Xbox generation personally until the last half of it, so we have a long, LONG way to go before I place the now released new gen into any sort of place.
But I do think it has plenty of potential. Sure, its up to the developers more than anything, but the hardware has more variance than any generation yet, providing for a greater mix of experiences than any prior generation. So at least the potential is there.

Well the SNES days will allways be the best since that was the pinical of 2d art in animation and games.
I mean the PSX ia and was allways the SNES two.
The Genisis and all these other Sega Consoles was the other choice and will be the other choice.
The X-Box is a joke and wll be a joke seeing how Microsoft just abandon game development for the X-Box. Speaking of which what was the last X-Box game in development?
The Wii is a joke where the idea of emulation is just too old. Netplay has been done with the N64 and SNES along with the GCN. Mugen will be the greatest fighting game of all time.
The PS2 was a joke from the start where there RPG Libarary along with the rest of everything just lunged into darkness. The original PSX Mascots is forgotten and games have been doing poorly or no longer looked up as games that is highly regaurded as great.
The Dreamcast could comeback again seeing how the system hs so much diffrent gameplay to offer.
Personally I still see the SNES making a huge comeback along with other Cart based systems.

Sounds like a pretty funny industry.

I would've liked to see the Dreamcast hang in longer than it did.

I hate this question. I seemed to get more out of my games during the 8 & 16 bit eras, which is strange since everything was more limited back then.
Still, looking at the sheer library of stuff that came out and looking at what was accomplished during the Dreamcast-to-XBox era, I'll go with that.
How the hell can so many people vote for the current gen? It's just getting started...that's a pretty presumptuous and ignorant opinion.

Dreamcast is my favorite console so that was my favorite era.

Dreamcast is my favorite console too, but the SNES/Genesis era was way too good to pass up on (not to mention the Neo Geo which was pretty neat).

Absolutely not. This gen is nothing more than companies (except Nintendo) pulling out their cocks to see which has more bling. No thanks, not interested in a cock fight.

I don't know what it is but I've played my 360 a hell of a lot more than I used to paly any other system. I thought I would slow down after a the "newness" wore off but its a year later and I'm still playing it on a very regular basis to the point that I didn't even feel like I needed either of the other 2 consoles. I definetly haven't been able to say that of other generations.

Generation Y is much better. Our letter is smarter. And closer to Z.
