Eddy in the Tekken series, is not cheap, he is a bit more difficult to use than most characters, and if you think he's cheap? You just don't recognize his moves.
I'm going to voice my opinions based on people that actually play fighting games at high level. Not for people that don't know shit about so and so fighting game.
I'd have to put the vote on....
Akuma/Gouki from Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Historically, he is one of the only characters that has ever been banned from use in tournament play.
Other cheap/unbalanced characters that come to mind are:
Tekken 4 - Jin Kazama
SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos - Zero, Geese
Capcom vs SNK - Nakoruru
Super Street Fighter II Turbo - O. Sagat
Soul Calibur II - Xianghua

E.Honda in Street Fighter 2 Turbo, his hundred hand slap was cheap as hell if used right. Also Jiggly Puff in SSBM in the hands of an expieranced player.

Nakoruru is not cheap, she just seems cheap for people that can't handle her speed, or use slow-ass characters. I agree about Eddy and your other picks though, MarkMan.
Most cheapass character? Easy. Scrooge McDuck. Though, that was more of a platform game than fighting, oh well.

lol. Again I will say Eddy is not cheap. If you really do think he is, I will attribute that to either... A)You just obviously don't know the character in conjunction with the game system. Or... B) You either win easily or lose easily to/with Eddy.
If you check tier lists made by the Tekken fighting community you'd find that neither Eddy nor Christie(T4) is anywhere near the higher tiers of fighters. In all respect they are on the lower middle tier. From Tekken 3, TTT, up to Tekken 4.
We'll see about that in Tekken 5 though. :)

I wouldn't say that Jigglypuff is cheap even in the hands of experienced players. I say that because Jigglypuff's Rest move takes that much timing and skill to pull off that its far from a cheap move, plus you're left open to attack for about 4 seconds afterwards. I also say that because Jigglypuff's my best/favorite character :D and it took me a long time to master Rest and compete with that move against experienced players. If any moves in that game are cheap, I'd go with Links sword spin and Pikachu's thunder. They are moves that do quite a bit of damage and don't take all that much skill to perform.

You'll always have someone complain about something they do not know.

I agree with Rest not being cheap, but I don't see how you can compete with that move against experienced people. Unless you're playing with 4 people, they shouldn't give you an opening to use rest. If they're experienced enough, you're more likely to miss than not, allowing yourself to be punished afterwards.
I don't think Link's sword spin and Pikachu's thunder are cheap. They're both easily punishable. Pikachu's thunder should almost never be used against opponents on the ground. A down smash would be much more reasonable, since it's not as easily countered.
As for Tekken, I admit I'm a noob at it. Sorry for angering the elite. I probably feel the same way about Maxi in SC2 as you feel about Eddy. Except that I don't consider Maxi to be lower tier.

JD_OK did fairly well with Maxi during Nationals... 4th place, I believe?
MarkMan
06-26-2004, 08:57 PM
Now, ask yourself, how long ago was that? And now, with the newer tier system developed, how many Maxi's do you see placing high? Exactly.
The SC II game was not as well developed in the US at the time of Nationals(few months after game is released in arcades). The same goes for Tekken 4 Nationals... which Julia won(one of the lower tier chars).

Cheap for SSBM is either roy or marth. When the entire 'match' comes down to who lands the first swing, the char is just cheap.
SCII- I play Talim, and she has to be mongst the cheapest of all.

Tusk from Killer Instinct 2.
Instructions for using Tusk :
1. Place hand over all 6 attack buttons.
2. Run palm left and right over buttons in a quick, repetetive motion.
3. Thank the other person for wasting their time and money.

My .02 cents worth is that Eddy is cheap. Although he is rather easy to defend against and beat, most users will repeatedly keep pressing the two kick buttons and a direction or continue to use only one of his moves=repetition, which equals 1 supremely super cheap character IMO.
Although he is a good character, you need to practice alot to get that out of him otherwise he is super cheap.

In the opinion of someone who isn't huge on fighting games: Kilik, from SC 2. I hate this fucker. Goddamn stick is bigger than him.
I've only played against Eddy once-and the person controlling him was a pro. He got his combo of dancy moves going and was unstoppable-but he didn't come off as cheap-just an efficient character in the hands of an efficient player.

i made it a point to master eddy, because everyone always just button mashed him and didnt use 90% of his moveset, however, if you just button mash, he's cheap. and if you dont know how to block him, youre pretty much screwed

super streach nut slinger who could shot fire out his nose and telport behind you. Nah thats not cheap!
He was to easy to beat.
Guile no matter what you throw at he he either blocks does his own fire move and or does that stupid back flip over it. Then he gets you in a cornner and keeps doing that leg sweep of backflip!

Holy shit, yes. Gold, healing, infinite tension, insane comp vs. 1/2 health, poisoned, 4 hit combo to do damage, jump sealed you.
I dunno if that's really one of the missions, but something like that.

Ok my uber list:
Mortal Kombat: Tie - Scorpion/Sub Zero
Tekken Series: Eddy
Capcom vs. Series: Cable
Soul Blade/Calibur Series: Raphael
KOF: Iori
Street Fighter Series: old school Blanca
Kill Instinct: Cinder
Smash Bros.: Jigglypuff
Overall I give a tie to Raphael and Eddy, both of which require little to no skill to play cheaply with.

"Cable is cheap as hell in MvC2"
I'll agree with that. My friends banned me from using him.
Luigi in the original SSB. His uppercut was almost as devastating as rest and didn't leave you anywhere near as open to attack.
Other than that, I can see both sides of the Eddy/Maxi argument.
At a high level, they do not stand up to other characters. But if two new people are playing against each other then odds are that the person playing Eddy/Maxi will beat the other person.
I would say they are cheap because if it gives an advantage that has nothing to do with skill then it should be considered cheap.

You can escape his multi throws, each and every one has an escape, you just have to know how and when to input.
Also, as shocking as this may sound to some of you, King is actually amongst the worst characters in Tekken 4. I should know, he's my main character lol.
Also, whoever just wants to disregard Eddy and Raphael, those 'masher' type characters, should know... they are VERY hard to win with consistently at a high level, that alone should keep them from being label'd as cheap. Don't you think if a character was cheap, it'd be a breeze to win with them? Eddy is one of my main characters and he's definately hard to win with.

06-28-2004, 05:18 AM
In the original SSM, Luigi was fookin unbalanced as hell. Don't believe me? Use his 'screamer'. Use his Up-B attack and he does his one-coin jump attack. Normally only does one point of damage. However, if you're literally touching another character and 'scream' them at above 35% damage, you're nearly guarenteed a knockout.
Oh, and I hate Rafael from SCII. And Iron Man/Cable/War Machine in MvC 2. Also, the team of Storm, Magneto, and Cable is the freakin cheapest team I've ever scene.

In terms of the Eddy debate, I'm on the side that thinks he's not cheap, just easily abusable. I can't say with certainty cuz I don't really play it but in GGXX, Bridget seems to be a real bitch by trapping with the yoyo's and such. But nowhere near the cheapest. I'll comment on CVS2 since i play that the most. I'll say Sagat b/c he's a monster w/ a novice and worse off in the hands of an expert. His normals are great pokes and have ridiculous dominance and he's damn strong. Recovery time is hella fast too. Hate him with people who abuse him, but i respect people who legitimately know how to use him and dominate (who usually can pwn w/o sagat), but that is a thin line to distinguish. Overall though, I resent top-tier players; only Capcom character I use in CVS2 is Maki.
Hands down, ugliest fighting game character is Hasbro's Chun-Li from their quasi-SF/GI JOE line.http://www.kikouken.com/gallery/official/official3/figure_art.jpg
MarkMan
06-28-2004, 05:38 AM
Yeah in CVS2, Sagat and Blanka are amongst the best. A. Bison ain't too shabby too.
Gill: Lord yes. He's responsible for my only broken controller in my entire time gaming.
Maxi: Not cheap at all. His recovery is HORRIBLE, and that makes it insanely easy to step around him. One wrong whiffed move, and the fight's over.
Raphael/Talim/Kilik: Not cheap either. In fact, they're all pretty average. I would go so far to say that there isn't a single cheap SCII character.
Cable: Yes, very.
King: If your friends are juking you with his multiparts, they deserve it. It takes a lot of work to get those things down, and minimal effort to escape.
Eddy: I've got to say he is cheap. Sure, he falters at high levels of play, but no character should give noobs such an overwhelming advantage, even if just against other noobs. If Tekken had a full 8-way run, Eddie would be just like Maxi, but as it is...

Sol is bad ass in XX, but sadly he's been toned down in # Reload... Most of the people play # as opposed to XX now in Japan(where the game gets furious amounts of competition).
The winner(Daigo) of last year's EVO2004 GGXX tourney used Sol, but people are now saying that Sol won't cut it in #R anymore so he has switched to Slayer. O_O

Tonite, I played Garou: MOTW for the first time ever. I picked Freeman out of the hat, and then proceeded to pound the christ out of my friend 4 matches straight in a row, including a perfect. Now, I'd like to think that I'm pretty ok at fighting games, but that is simply not the case. And the friend I was playing against has devoted his life to SNK fighting games. How I beat him, I do not know. I do know I was button mashing (go ahead, call me a noob, you'd be right).
So, in light of tonite's events, my completely uninformed vote goes to Freeman of Garou: MOTW, the only SNK character who could ever give me a shot at beating my friend.

You CAN'T get more cheap than him!!!
He's was designed, crafted and created to be cheap. That's why he's the last boss of SF3, not some noob button masher charcter like Eddy. (BTW I'll take out an Eddy user with Paul any day) He can't be beat if a human is using him that knows his combos. Resurection for crying out loud, plus the big Rainbow arrack that takes off 3/4 of you life even if your blocking.
Rugal in KOF 98' is bad too.
